Four years ago I would have given this place a 4 ½ to 5 star. Sadly over the years it has gone down. I remember back when I use to come with my grandpa it was excellent food and Dan was cheerful and happy to customers. Now Dan’s no longer there, his wife’s busting her butt in the kitchen, and the new waitress wasn’t pleasant or friendly at all. We waited an hour for our food and the food wasn’t all to good. The burger didn’t taste all to well, the grill cheese was cold, and the fries had a stale, nasty, old oil flavor. It’s no longer my favorite little mom and pop restaurant and I won’t be back anytime soon.

Sara’s is one of those places that I’ve passed 98237492834 times and have always wanted to visit. My boyfriend planned a whole date for us on Saturday and took to my Unilocal bookmarks to find a place to grab breakfast, and he chose Sara’s! When we first walked in, we weren’t really acknowledged so we went and sat down in a booth near the window. Shortly after sitting down, the small Asian woman(Sara, maybe?) manning the place came and offered us coffee and brought us menus. I ended up ordering the Chicken Fried Steak and my boyfriend got the Corned Beef Hash with eggs. Total, it was under $ 10 for each of our meals which was DEAL for the amount of food you get. The food was really good! Despite my boyfriend seeing that the Chicken Fried Steak comes frozen(the kitchen is literally right where you can see everything being made) it was suuuper tasty. It didn’t have a frozen taste to it, and the gravy it came with was also really good, so I don’t even care. I usually don’t go out for breakfast or to diners because I’m trying to be health conscious. Another score in my book was the eggs. The cheese was actually SUPER melty unlike the eggs you get at most places… It’s always like cold ass cheese half melted. Not at Sara’s. Their eggs are also made really well, and with REAL eggs. It didn’t have that light, fluffy, watery taste you get at Denny’s. I could tell when I was eating scrambled yolk, or whites, and I liked that. The hashbrowns were unlike any hashbrowns I’ve ever had… They were crispy, but also reminded me of mashed potatoes underneath the crisp? It’s really hard to explain, but both my boyfriend and I were über fans. My boyfriend’s Corned Beef Hash was super good — like really good. The last place we tried CBH it tasted really vinegary and that scarred me. Thank you, Sara’s, for fixing what Countryside Café damaged. Only complaint I have about Sara’s is that it’s clear it’s been here for a while. Very outdated décor and furniture, but nothing that makes a bad visit. Also, my boyfriend apparently found a hair in between two pieces of toast that I had… I didn’t really see it before he took it out, so I’m going to go with his word and assume it was true. I’ll definitely be visiting Sara’s again and most likely bumping my review up to 5 stars if there is no hair. The service provided by Sara was amazing(she’s soooo nice!) and the food was really good, at a really great price. Glad to have this so close to home.

Classic style mom and pop diner, with a décor focused on classic cars. Many times you’ll see patrons’ classics parked out front. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and yummy greasy-spoon food. I love it! There are healthier options available as well, but is known for it’s classic diner fair.

I cant really say anything good about this place right now. I should have walked out when the stench of a nasty asian corner store hit me as soon as I walked in. Everything on my plate was nasty to me. I was supposed to receive 3 biscuits instead received 5 small ones that were a bit on the hard side… The hashbrowns were mushy and the scrambled eggs were not really scrambled(was mostly eggwhites) and the sausage patty was a greasy piece of cheap sausage meat. Silverware, glassware, etc all cheap quality.

Ordered Sara’s special! Pancakes were good also the bacon. Scrambled eggs were greasy and had a texture more of like a omelette! Wasn’t busy when we went in so we got our food fairly quick! Service was good! One complaint was a lot of flies flying around, which was annoying!

I ate here a month or two ago, and I was horrified. The woman waiting on us was so friendly and sweet, the place was packed and she was severely overworked. A nasty, short Asian woman with broken English started screeching at the top of her lungs and was actually firing our waitress while she was helping us, classy. Very chaotic, and loud. Decent food, but not worth the trip to the doctor and buying a hearing aid after going deaf.

This is definitely an off the radar diner. They’re open from 5am-9pm. I usually order their rib eye steak, two eggs, toast and hash brown. All for $ 9.49, what a steal! I like my steak medium well, and the chef always does a good job serving it up that way. Toast, eggs and hash brown, I don’t see how anyone can really not cook that well. I rated this place a 3 because of the service. If a business owner knows the house is going to be packed during lunch hours. Why not hiring more staff? It usually takes them about 20 – 25 before my food arrives from ordering. So plan ahead if you’re going to eat here. Other than that, I’m willing to wait for food arrival time. Because you can’t really find another place in Kent. With the quality of food you get for their price!

I feel bad writing a review because my fiancée and I only had a drink(orange juice and a coffee) but the experience having that was enough. If you don’t get there early enough or haven’t been there before, just don’t go. There aren’t many booths/tables for groups to sit together if you don’t get there early enough, so expect to sit at the bar. And if you sit at the bar, you can expect that you’ll feel that the booth next to you is sitting right in your lap. Their attention to you as you’re sitting down? Not that good. My fiancée asked for orange juice with ice in it, as she always does at any breakfast. They came back with a regular orange juice. Something small, but its a different order… easy enough to do. We left because nothing on the menu caught our interest and the screeching harpies sitting at the booth next to her stool were so close that my fiancée thought they were trying to make out with her.

As a Owner of a small business in the downtown Kent area I’m super disappointed to have to leave this review. When you mess up on someone to order and level expectation to meet the customers needs no matter what. I came in and ordered some french toast and a breakfast sandwich and then I’m coming with sausage you came with bacon and instead of any kind of silverware nothing I got rushed out the door. When I got to my own business to enjoy my breakfast I found out that it didn’t even have syrup for the French toast. Once I complain and call the same day she said to come in and argued with the fact that I gave her that she gave me the right stuff. I never made it in that day but decided to come back and try again today and when I told her about the situation she still continue to argue and tell me that I was wrong and that her system is flawless lol needless to say that’s the last time I’ll ever go back there. Once again I am a small business owner in the area and it’s unfortunate that people don’t recognize the strength of others especially ones who can sympathize with them. If you Judy near the coffee shop Diner with semi decent breakfast but the service is crap and the owner is a piece of work now I see

Sara’s is an amazing little diner. I have grown up eating at Sara’s and have continued the tradition with my children. The corned beef hash is amazing!!! My husband always gets it and I always get something else. Even though my food is always delish, I always look at his plate with jealousy. And steal a few bites! The people are always so friendly and the owners are super nice! Love this place!

Hubby picked up the tuna melt to go. It was quite disappointing to say the least. I will just stick to their breakfast menu

The staff is so friendly! The place is pretty small and the parking lot isn’t very big either. The restaurant is small so I wouldn’t recommend bringing big groups. The iced coffee was pretty good! The hash browns were very crispy! There were a couple of flies flying around but they never landed on our food which was great. I will come back I’m the future to try their dinner menu!

Really deserving of a full four stars here. I love Sara’s. Granted, it’s nothing uh-mazing, but it is pretty great. I’ve said it before and I’ll mention it again — Sara’s sticks to the simple breakfast fare. But the big difference here is that they do it well. Portion sizes are what you’d expect but the prices are great. No, there aren’t vegan/organic options here but let’s face it — most diners aren’t exactly in that type of business. Their bacon is good, hashbrowns continue to be one of my favorite, and OMG the corned beef hash is out of this world good. I finally tried them on the weekend and it sure gets busy! But not so much that you spend a long time waiting. They are cleaner than I remember so nice job there. Just being in there with like minded folks is half the fun. This place is well worth the money in my book. Go here expecting a simple(but delicious!) breakfast that’s a better value than most places, and you won’t be disappointed.

My husband and I and sometimes with grandkids in tow frequently stop in for breakfast at sara’s.I like the feel of the place and the breakfasts are made to order, decent tasting food. the improvement I would make is the coffee. switch brands. the bacon is really good. buttermilk pancakes are buttermilky tasting.

I love the ambiance here. It’s a greasy spoon for sure. Slow service, but everything is made to order how could you complain. Omelets are great, chicken fried steak was melt in your mouth good. Hash seemed kinda soggy, and things come out burnt sometimes. If it really bothers you, ask for another plate. It won’t be a problem.

I like this place. I know just a regular greasy spoon, but sometimes it is exactly what I want. Ordered sourdough toast and I got real sourdough. That was a surprise from most diners. The hashbrowns were almost browned well enough but I prefer the home fries that you are seeing at a lot of other breakfast place. The ham and cheese omelette had real cheddar and was just fine. Service was a little slow because they had just one waitress for 10 tables and the counter. But I was in no hurry today. Décor is wait out dated– orange tile fills the entire back wall. I think this is a place where I go by myself and sit at the counter instead of bringing the whole fam.

Having been a longtime fan of Sara’s about 6 years ago, we decided to come back for breakfast on the way through Kent. As always, Sara’s never disappoints, being small place that’s filled with locals and old timers. Food was killer and really hit the spot on a damp fall morning. This isn’t some trendy hipster joint, you come here for the ambiance, not the organic produce. Yes, the coffee is mediocre, the food is normal but the place is warm and happy. 10/10, will come back again and again.

You either like divey diners or you don’t. Don’t go to a greasy spoon and complain about the grease. I would take the polarization of the reviews of this place as exactly what it is; people visiting a diner with either the right or wrong expectations. If you got taken to the diner by your dad after hockey practice or on early morning road trips then this place will feel like coming home. On the other hand, if you’re wanting ironic hipster dive atmosphere; move along. Don’t complain about the grime when you asked for it. Great price, great portions, stick to your ribs diner food all made to order. Awesome.
