Before shopping at Ranch 99, and if I have a hankering for Japanese food, I’ll stop at Edokko for lunch … which is about the only time the prices are reasonable for what you get. The food here is a solid average, never had anything bad, but I’ve never had anything outstanding either. For those of you that have a vague idea of what Japanese food is, will enjoy the food here. There’s enough on the menu to explore different dishes. The staff is very friendly and attentive, but don’t try practicing your Japanese with them … they are not Japanese.

i love Japanese food and I can’t say no to try every Japanese restaurant near me. I their Japanese miso soup, agedashi tofu, seafood yakiudon, and tonkotsu ramen. Compare to what I had when I was in Japan, it’s 5 out of 10. But their takoyaki is pretty good. Price is alright. Food is good but could be better.

The miso ramen was really good. I also ordered their sashimi that was on happy hour. The fish pieces were really small but they were still tasty. Service was a little slow, but I think it was the gal’s first week there. Prices were reasonable and I would go back if I was visiting Salt Lake City again.

I came here on a Saturday afternoon, the place wasn’t to busy and we were seated right away. They had a lunch menu at the time and the prices on it were pretty good compared to the normal menu. I ordered the bento box with the chef’s pick sushi and tonkatsu. They started off with miso soup which was pretty good. When the entrée came i felt like the portion was pretty small, the food tasted alright, it wasn’t any different than me going into any other teriyaki joint. The sushi tasted good, it had a fresh taste to it. The server was friendly, and she was attentive, and the restaurant seemed pretty clean also. Overall the price of food wasn’t as worth it to me but the staff there were cool.

Walked by this place many times, it’s located in the 99 ranch market. finally decided it’s time to try it. The place is clean. The wife and I were the only people there so we had all the service to ourselves. The staff was nice and friendly. They have a large variety of foods so you can order other things and not just sushi. The price is average. We ordered the Ramen bowls, its refreshing compared to those instant Ramen but it needs more salt, Sadly all they have is soy sauce and no salt/pepper at the tables. If you’re in the area, try it out you might like it.

I’ve eaten here numerous times so I don’t know why I haven’t reviewed it. I took my mother and daughter to dinner since it is near my mother’s place. It’s the only Japanese restaurant in the 99 Ranch Mall and has been there for over 10 years. The current owners have had it for about 2 years and have kept everything the same. Service: We were there at 5:00 on Sunday, so there weren’t many people in the restaurant. The server seated us immediately and brought us our beverages. She made sure that our orders were taken quickly and correctly. The food came out shortly after ordering. My daughter had the tempura udon and my mother had the tempura entrée. I had the bento combination with saba and sashimi. My mother who is extremely finicky about her tempura commented that it was really hot and the crust was very crunchy. The quantity was really large with several shrimp and lots of veggies. My daughter loved the taste of the soup base, which is most important. My saba was cooked correctly and the sashimi was very fresh. The only negative of the dish is that they didn’t have enough rice on the initial serving. Ignore the fact that it’s in a Chinese mall. This place is the only restaurant that has been there since the mall opened, so they are doing things right. I fully recommend this place for Japanese food.

Nice to have another sushi option in the area that is worth going to. Came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Was able to get a table for 3 without reservations immediately. We got the Japanese miso hotpot which was good in terms of portion size but the meat was too fatty for me. Next time I’ll opt for the veggie option. The sushi was fresh and had a good fish-to-rice ratio, especially on the hamachi rolls we ordered. As a whole I found the prices for their cooked food pretty cheap but their sushi was a bit more expensive then expected. Service was good and the staff were friendly. Had many top ups of the green tea.

My boyfriend and I come here pretty often and we love the service! We find the sushi is almost always fresh tasting(only on very few occasions was it a little too fishy) and the service is fantastic. I’m not even sure of the servers name, there is a bit of a language barrier, but she always warms us with a smile and asks us if we are working and how we are doing. She knows our friend group and always tells us when she sees out other friends in there also. The older sushi chef is our favorite! His rolls are always perfect. We always get shrimp tempura rolls but we also love their B-52, Mexican, and Seattle rolls.

This is run by Taiwanese. We ordered the crunch California roll and spider roll. The food is not great. The sushi rice is hard and dry. The service is very friendly but slow; and the restaurant was about 4 tables full at 6.30pm. Despite the first visit here this evening, I will make another visit to try their bento and noodles to give a fair review.

Solid place for basic Japanese fare. The staff a very kind and their menu offers something for everyone. The sashimi lunch was quite a steal and j enjoyed a better than average but no frills bento box with Saba(grilled mackerel) and ginger pork(a stir fry). We ordered a soft shell crab for appetizer and it was pretty good size with lots of meat and te appetizer order of edamame is get generous(as in we brought about half home). Next time we are trying the Chinese donut/crêpe thing — the table next to us ordered and we had some serous food envy. Located inside the Ranch 99 Plaza. Try it sometime and if they are busy there are ever all other places worth trying.

I love this restaurant! I love both ramen and sushi and I can satisfy my cravings all in one place. Their ramen is extremely delicious! We spent about $ 40 – 50 for two people so price is relatively reasonable. I wouldn’t hesitate about going back. They have great customer service as well.

I always walk pass this restaurant when I’m walking through the Great Wall but never really acknowledged this business until earlier today. I was craving for udon and saw that they offer a few selection of udon noodle soup on their menu. They even have yakisoba, ramen, sushi, bento boxes and teriyaki! My boyfriend and I ordered beef udon and seafood yakiudon. Yakiudon is basically yakisoba but stir fried with udon noodle. Soup broth of the beef udon was full of flavor and the yakiudon was very unique! I’ve never had such a dish. Also, the food portions are very considerate. Lol. The restaurant is medium sized and clean. Service was great but there was a little English barrier between the server and I. I’m pretty sure everything else on their menu is also good so I will definitely be back to try other dishes.

I’m not sure how this place stay in business for this long. I have never seen this restaurant even half full, usually just one or two customers dining here. I decided to give it a try but their sushi was just not good. The cut of the fish was bad and stringy and sushi rice was way too sticky. I thought their ramen would be a little better but the broth was underwhelm. Service was decent since the restaurant was practically empty.

I give Edokko 2.5 stars. The restaurant is conveniently located in the Great Wall complex, closeby Ranch 99 Market. If you have a hankering for Japanese food, it’s an okay restaurant to try out. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but it’ll do in a pinch. We ordered the chicken katsu and vegetarian udon with tofu. Maybe that was my mistake in not ordering some meat up in that udon. Though the food wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, the wait staff were friendly and very nice.

The ramen here is so-so, same goes for their hot pot, and sushi. They used to have very inexpensive omakase and since then no longer offer it. The only reason for the two stars in stress of one is because the servers there are extremely nice and attentive. If you’re in the Great Wall mall and just looking for a quick Japanese food fix, this may be the place. — If you are not in a hurry, I would say pass.

I had the beef udon and it was delicious. I had a lovely conversation with the owner and will be back for the sushi happy hour. I highly recommend as the quality and authenticity is much better than going to a chain restaurant like Trappers or Sushi land!

I was craving sushi and ramen and couldn’t think of a place that offered both that was open for lunch on weekends beside Genki sushi. I thought Edokko would be better than Genki, it’s gotta be. WRONG. Sushi rice wasn’t cooked all the way and it had a crunchy texture. It wasn’t seasoned properly and the flavor was authentically wrong. Making perfect sushi rice is a form of art and this certainly wasn’t. The rice ruined the good uni. Go with uni sashimi. As for the«Sappprp style» miso ramen, the worst thing about it was the noodles being too al dente or way undercooked. Ramen noodles are supposed to be al dente but their noodles were simply not cooked all the way. My miso broth had no depth in flavor and miso ramen was supposed to come with wide noodles but it came with thin egg noodles. The toppings were OK and the best part of the dish. It definitely wasn’t the Sapppro style ramen that they claim to be. I was very disappointed with this place. Maybe other dishes are better? I just had wrong dishes here?

There aren’t enough Japanese restaurants in the south end. I suppose the lack of clientele would be a good reason for someone not to open in the area. Edokko is a nice addition in the south king county area. I like the fact it’s run by a small family… both times I have gone the place was completely empty. I suppose having lunch at 2 in the afternoon would contribute to that… Their rolls are ok. I enjoyed them the first time. The second time I felt the quality of the fish lacked a bit, but I enjoyed their udon. I’ll be a returning customer for the simple fact it’s convenient & I like to support small family owned businesses. They’re very kind and service is prompt too.
