Prevention of Blindness Society Look Again Resale Shop

The usual overpriced broken junk.

This place makes me laugh. I love it here. There’s always new stuff coming in — I probably go once a week just to check it out. All the money goes to the Prevention of Blindness Society so the shop owners (two older couples) don’t over price anything — she even knocks down the price if she likes you. It’s a quirky place and is by far my favorite shop on Antique row.

I have been here a few times. First was when I was moving into my new place and needed a few pieces of furniture and kitchen items.
I got a singer sewing machine chair/​bench with the removable top which had a matching sewing machine that seemed to be damaged. They sold me the bench for the same price as if I was being sold the sewing machine. I really liked the piece so I purchased it at $ 25 but it was overpriced.
I got some good glass cups and pyrex dishes for my kitchen at a decent price.
There are a lot of framed paintings and prints if you are in the market, you just have to look up when looking around.
They do have some nice silver pieces that I wouldn’t pay for but if you are in the market you can have a look.
I can’t say much about the clothing selection, but I did find two cute clutches that were on sale.
I’ll still return because there is a lot to look at and through.

OK, let me update the reviews. This is one of my fav thrift stores, but I like to check out others in the area too like NAMI, Unique (they’re prices have gone up a lot) and Upscale Thrift Store in Rockville. But I have gotten some great bargains at POB. I go to church nearby and head over often after the service; usually monthly. I understand they finally HAD to clear out all their junky stuff at the front, and that was a good thing. But it’s still the same cramped quarters inside, except they’re making an effort to organize what they have. I recently got some super things for only $ 1 each because they’re getting rid of summer stock of clothing and also purchased some great little nik-​naks (that were less than $ 1 on sale.) I’m sure they have things that have been sitting around a long time, (like the glassware and linens) but they have new things coming in too. And if you stop in regularly, you will notice how the stock changes, but not dramatically.
Last Sunday, I picked up a framed art piece (about 8×10) of two miniature carved wooden Korean Masks that was very unique and very well crafted. My fiancé’ loves Asian art. and was thrilled with it and I only spent $ 8 and didn’t ask for a discount. Now there are some things that are not worth the price marked on them, but that’s when you haggle, if you want to bother. I don’t like to do that much, but my fiancé’ will and we were able to get a vintage solid pine chest recently for $ 225 (marked at $ 300) that would have likely cost way more than that somewhere else. It was not in pristine shape and the drawers can be difficult to slide at times, but I love it. There really aren’t many true antiques in this place and most other thrift stores, if you’re looking for that kind of thing. Most people got smart about selling their «old stuff» decades ago and rarely give away or donate high value antiques and now even «vintage» is pricey and getting pricier. But great deals can still be found if you’re willing to put in your time and do a little bit of treasure hunting. Yes, POB is definitely THE place to shop on Kensington’s Antique Row if you’re looking for very reasonable prices and the ambiance of a flea market combined with «Granny’s attic.»

This little antiques & collectables shop is more of a resale shop rather than high end antiques. You never know what you’ll find here. They have tons of bric-​à-​brac.
If you are looking for inexpensive tea cups and saucers, glassware or mismatched china then this is the place to shop. They also have a little room with used books. Other finds include jewelry, furniture and vintage clothing. This is definitely the cheapest place to shop in Kensington’s Antique Row. I found an old Thorne’s English candy tin like my sister collects for only $ 2.00.
As the name of the shop suggests, all items are sold to support a worthy charity. They may be changing their name soon to Look Again Antique Shop, but it will forever be the Prevention of Blindness shop to me.
