After a long day of outlet shopping just before my best friend’s wedding we stopped at this small mom & pop Korean/Japanese restaurant for lunch. The décor is tacky and the restaurant needs a major facelift. However, surprisingly the quality of the sushi was pretty good. My only complaint abt the sushi was they used frozen red tuna and you can definitely taste the difference. The Korean Pajun wasn’t that great either but for it’s location definitely not a bad place for lunch.

If your looking for sushi in Kenosha I highly recommend Soons. It’s a very small, family owned business. The service is great and the prices are reasonable. If you are going on a weekend I recommend going early because it does get packed. The only negative I can give is sometimes the rolls do have way to much rice and not enough of the good stuff!

By far the best sushi place on this side of the midwest. Everything is made super fresh and the service is really good. If you ever get a chance go here and order the Wisconsin roll it’s amazing!

Tried Soon’s for the first time last night with some friends. The place is nice, however it is a little disorganized and service is not their specialty. They do however serve up some good quality sushi at fair prices based on quality/quantity but I will elaborate… Upon arrival we had to wait for others to leave as they were reserving half of their restaurant for prom night. Sort of aggravating to stand around for 15 minutes waiting while there were like six empty tables. After finally getting our table we ordered some really basic drinks: 2 beers out of a bottle, 2 sodas, and 1 pomegranate martini. I thought for sure someone was straining the pomegranate juice by hand because these drinks took a solid 10−15minutes before they appeared at our table. Sadly it was not fresh pomegranate, it was just an old bar tender who was preoccupied with the GILF at the bar. We ordered the following to share: sushi for two(love boat type deal) 6 various rolls First off… no soup or salad is included. That is an extra $ 15 for two orders, so for four of us soup/salad would have cost $ 30? That is a tad steep… I had high expectations for this place based on feedback from personal friends, Soon’s however did not meet those expectations. The restaurant is in a horrible part of town, it’s small and cramped, and service was sub-par. Food quality was outstanding and that is the only reason I can give them 3 stars. They need to step up their service, hire a bartender who is not 100 years old and thinks Saturday night is gossip time with the 60+ year old woman with her stuff hanging out.

Everyone told us to forget the tacky decorations, neighborhood and atmosphere — that we would love it! Wrong! It was awful. From the moment our party of four walked in we felt like we were in the Twilight Zone. We felt literally invisible, especially when a party of 6 walked in 20min late for their«reservation.» We got to the restaurant at 715, didn’t get seated until 830 and didn’t leave until almost 10pm. No one said a word to us until a table opened up and they cleaned it. It took 20min to order our drinks — meanwhile our waitress cleaned three tables and served two. She was terrible — didn’t know what a cabernet was or that it was even on the menu and when she brought us our sushi she couldn’t even tell us what was what. She didn’t return to the table the rest of the night except to bring us our bill. The sushi was so so… Nothing amazing, definitely not worth the money we paid. When we went to leave the old man had lost our ticket and asked us how much our bill was before finding the ticket in a pile of papers and running our card. He then proceeded to check out two walk-in orders before even handing our receipt and card back. We won’t be back.

The key is to get your order to go! It’s the best in the area. And don’t forget to order the squid salad! Yumm-O

Our first time here trying a new place for sushi and hoping for some decent Korean food. I am Korean and my wife is Caucasian but has had plenty of good Korean food and decent sushi. We ordered: –Dolsot bibimbap –Katsu Don –Spider roll –Fire scallop roll First off, we ordered to go(was going to dine in but changed to-go thanks to a VERY antsy baby) and didn’t receive any of the extras others wrote about. We were surprised to find that the Dolsot bibimbap didn’t have bulgoki meat. Looking back on the menu, it didn’t exactly describe bulgoki. A disappointment to authentic bibimbap, in this Korean’s opinion. And that was a pathetic attempt at the Dolsot part. I understand the issues in making a Dolsot for carry out but at least try better! I got«Katsu Don» actually thinking it was the earlier«Ton Katsu». My mistake. But what the heck is this dish? It is essentially a glorified, overpriced fried rice. I’m not really a food snob by any means but I could not eat even a quarter of that. We’ve gotten spider rolls at other places and loved it and were eager to try it here. Terrible. It’s edible but not really good at all. Even Woodmans has better Spider rolls and that’s saying a lot. And finally the fire scallop rolls. At a hefty 17.95(probably because there’s scallops) I expected a lot better quality. Those had to be canned scallops or something. They were mediocre at best and I think that’s even being generous. I’d still give this place another try(just once more but definitely with different menu items. I’m really curious as to what they actually call bulgoki) but Bottom line so far: Overpriced, bad for carry out, not good quality authentic Korean food. In my opinion, you’d find better sushi at Honada, or further in Gurnee. I might consider this«Americanized» Korean food. For decent Korean food, this might just give you enough reason to make a trek to Chicago.

Not the fanciest place but they have the best sushi in town, and the price can’t be beat. Portions are large and the staff/owners are ALWAYS nice.

Nice hidden place in Kenosha. Great sushi. The pieces were massive. Happy to find some good sushi and hot food for lunch during the work week.

Their rolls are just so creative. Me and my girlfriend order from Soon’s all the time! I’d recommend the Fire Scallop roll and the Phoenix roll. The Kenosha roll is also delicious, but it’s huge and makes quite a mess while eating it.

So after the urging of some coworkers and other locals, we tried this place. We were craving sushi but wanted to try a place closer to home and felt like we should patronize a local business. I wish we had just made the trip up to Milwaukee. Service was fine, and we didn’t have to wait long. Complimentary salad was fine. Liked the house ginger dressing and that they put radishes in it. Sushi was… meh at best. The smoked salmon single piece was excellent. The rest was not, at all. Scallop tasted fishy and was slimy; the fatty tuna? wasn’t and tasted… off. I got the rainbow roll and the fish was fishy tasting and did not seem very fresh, the shrimp was tough and the white fish(tuna?) was again slimy and off-tasting. My husband got the monster roll and after he knocked off the gross toppings, he did eat it all. Also got the alaskan roll which was just kinda… there. Décor was really kitschy and could have been cute, except it all looked dirty and worn down. Not in the best of neighborhoods, but safe enough-they aren’t open too late where you’d really worry. I wish I could say good things, I wanted to say good things… but it really was a disappointment and I won’t be back :(

Used to be a good place, very disappointing experience. I came in by myself to have a little bit of sushi and was seated at a table table with two other people. Was ready to spend a fair amount of money to make up for a full table. Don’t think I’ll ever come back here. Thank you Soon, sarcasm included, every customer is important!

This place didn’t not look like much from the outside, but what a gem! Loved the rolls we ordered! Such beautiful big pieces of fish. The only thing I didn’t like was the vegetable and shrimp tempura. The batter had no flavor and neither did the dipping sauce. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The men’s room was not very clean, but the women’s room was not bad, just felt old. This will be a favorite place we will gladly make the 40 min drive for when we want some quality sushi.

First time here and was pleasantly surprised. Heard good reviews and they were right. The staff was great, made suggestions and were quick. We were here on a Wed night and it wasn’t busy at all. The squid salad was tasty! We ordered an assortment of rolls and sushi and everything was delicious. Only thing that might have been better was the location, it’s not in the best neighborhood.

Small, friendly café. Prompt service. Favorite spot for a lunch date! Soon’s is conveniently located close enough to downtown Kenosha that it won’t take you out of your way, but far enough that parking is never difficult. The staff is courteous and accurate when preparing/delivering your order, and the sushi is a very close second to Honada. The food is great! The sushi has a bit… softer texture than most other restaurants. Many of my friends prefer this to the more firm texture I’m fond of, but I still very much enjoyed it. Pricing is about right for most sushi cafes. A little bit more than I’d typically spend at similar places, but not a deal breaker by any means. Overall, I gave Soon’s 4⁄5 stars because even if it’s not perfect, I know that I can recommend this establishment to friends and family with confidence, every time.

One thing’s for sure, Soon’s has really good sushi. The maki rolls, of which they have a bunch of varied choices, are mostly quite extravagant with zesty sauces, and tempura flakes, and tobiko and this and that sprinkled or laid or drizzled over the top. It you like simple, traditional maki, they have some of that, but it’s the more«fru fru» items that they specialize in. I don’t much like the atmosphere. It feels like it should be a storefront of some sort, with the carpeted floors & fluorescents lighting from the drop ceiling. The tables and chairs could use replacing, as well. I’ve never had the other types of food they serve, so I can’t speak to that at all. I’m just coming for the damn good sushi.

I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve been coming to Soon’s sushi café for about 6 years now. Every time I come into this establishment I’m treated as if I’m family. I’ve been to countless sushi restaurants and this is by far the best. Not only do they specialize in succulent sushi but they also have phenomenal items to order from the grill. My favorite would be the Bimbebop. The salad dressing is to die for. It’s a ginger dressing served on top of fresh lettuce. My favorite rolls are the spicy tuna/or crab. East roll, American dream, shrimp tempura, and an eel roll I forgot the name Lol.
