My last gas station review. Between work travel stopped by harbor. How can a gas station surrounded by the most beautiful place remind I’m in the movie the hills have eyes or wrong turn. I’m made it out with enough gas to get back to Madison.

Used to go here for gas whenever I was in the area but that since changed. Stopped going here after viewing my credit card transactions and finding that my card was used three times for gas the following day. Only an employee at the gas station would have gotten their hands(literally) on my card that day. Of anyone reading this, be warned.

While Perrine’s has a well-deserved reputation for inexpensive gas, the place has a crummy aura, dirty bathrooms, and employees who are surly. I don’t suggest going in the place. Pay at the pump if you can. If you do venture inside, you’ll find a selection of convenience store stuff, but it generally looks poorly maintained. I used to think gas stations naturally just looked dirty and crufty, until some more recent entrants into the market, such as Andy’s, showed that you could have a well-maintained, welcoming facility that was kept clean, neat, and stocked, where someone clearly cared about presentation rather than just putting out the most popular high margin items. Further, Perrine’s imposes a minimum amount to use your credit card, which would seem to be in violation of their VISA and MC merchant agreement. Stores often do this so that they don’t lose out too much on V/MC fees, but V/MC rules forbid it, because V/MC want cardholders to be able to use their cards without hassle.

I don’t know why it is but Lou Perrine’s Gas Station(which I never probably pronounce correctly) is ALWAYS, HANDSDOWN, the cheapest gas station around. That counts for all of Illinois and the rest of southwestern Wisconsin(Kenosha, Racine, Pleasant Prarie). I tell ya, a gallon of gas is almost always 20 cents(or more) cheaper than just over the border in Illinois. Plus, once you add Illinois taxes, you end up further on top! Before any other station in the region drop their prices, you can always read what will happen next by Lou’s prices. I bet you hate when you have to wait in line behind car after car, or the lot is too small to turn your vehicle around to change pumps… not at Lous! Just one last taunt to win you over: It’s a nice location to Kenosha downtown to grab a bite to eat or enjoy the lakefront breeze. :) Support the improving Kenosha community.
