My parents took me there when I WAS A KID. actually METTHEMAN!!! Now I’m taking my grandkids! This is a MUST stop when we go visit relatives in Tennessee. Never had a bad experience or anything we didn’t want more. Best thing is they are a small local business. I always take out of towners since it feels like a big step back in time, with better things to eat than you can buy in the big stores. Well worth the stop!

They accept credit cards! Last time around they didn’t but they’ve changed and have been accepting credit cards since January ’16. Woo hoo! Bobby Nelsons has a very quaint cozy feel when you walk in. A nice variety of cheese and sausages, the smoked provolone is a favorite. They sell novelty items like cheese head hats, and various jelly/jams/honey/syrups as well. It can be a little hard to find though; taking 94 from Illinois, take exit 340 and turn left. Straight through the intersection(left takes you back onto 94), take the next left(looks like a separate lane). Then take the SECOND left, just past the Mars castle entrance. There’s a small sign at the second turn for Bobby Nelsons! Hope that helps

OMGOMG We stopped on our way home from GB this Easter Holiday and guess what? They now accept CREDITCARDS! The owner said she still doesn’t own a credit card, but her kids talked her into accepting them. At these small mom and pop stores we still pay in cash to save them the 3% to the credit card company charges them, but it’s nice to know if you over buy, which we do often, a credit card can save you. Great deli and service as usual

Love this place. Make special trips to kenosha just to go here. This place is a diamond in the rough. Try the brats. Cajun, jalapeño/cheddar so good. The cheese is great specially the string cheese. Bring plenty of cash all they take. Beef jerky is great, teriyaki is favorite. Almost time for another trip.

There was a cute old gentleman and a cute old lady running the place, I’m assuming it was the owners. Lots of options, cheaper than the castle, really busy for the tiny spot it is. Answered all of our questions, patiently. They were a bit nervous, seems like they were used to regular customers… And here we were… Foreign looking people like clueless tourists, lol. Get their 7 years aged cheese, it will change your life!

My wife who grew up in Waukesha swears by this place and it’s the real deal in cheese and sausage. Old school for real, cash only but it’s so worth it. As my wife says cheese so fresh it squeaks, and they will let you sample. Not real expensive but the owner says they’ve been there 66 years, 56 with current ownership. Funny I mentioned the great Unilocal reviews abd she says thru don’t have a computer to read them. Guess not too busy making great cheese and sausage.

Very nice, small shop. Texture of cheese was incomparable. Only complaint is they do not take credit/debit cards.

Lots of cheeses, sausages, and jams oh my! It was a nice stop before heading to Great America. My boyfriend and I loaded up on some great treats along the way. The people working there are much nicer than those in the castle next door! The prices seem reasonable for the quality of the food. I would definitely come back again!

Wow what a great place! Gigantic selection of cheeses and sausages, etc… so much better than that silly«cheese castle» next door! The woman behind the counter was so charming and friendly! Had several samples and went home with some amazing Wisconsin cheeses! Oh, and I just had to get the maple fudge! Will definitely be back for more!

Fantastic selection of fresh meats, cheeses and local, specialty delicacies. Charming store and delightful owners. Stopped in for some curds and summer sausage and they gave my inquisitive six-month old son a half dollar for his piggy bank. The new highway ramp makes it a little more difficult to access but go the extra couple blocks– you won’t be disappointed!

I am not allowed to come home to my parents in Indiana unless I stop here first. You know that huge cheese castle? Drive right on past that to Bobby Nelson’s humble little cheese shop. Cash only, small gravel lot, it might be easy to drive by this place. But don’t you dare. They have a large selection of authentic Wisconsin sausages, meats, beef sticks, snacks, cheese curds, and other local foods. They’re always so nice and welcoming, and I’m pretty sure they ship their foods, too! It feels great to support a small and local business. Enjoy!

Love this place‼ The bratwurst and liverwurst are the best of the wurst! Check out their selection of meats and cheeses. Great people to do business with. Much better than that processed cheese factory and othe brat stand in the area. Caribe an hot cheese is a nice spicy cheese.

We LOVE this place! Landjaeger is amazing — also beef jerky, salami chips and cheese curds. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

It doesn’t get better than this. I feel like a tourist every time I visit«The meat and cheese shack», but I can’t get enough. This place is packed to the gills full of the best cheese and sausage you’ll ever have. The cheese is amazing, as is the sausage. Don’t leave without a bag of smoked string cheese and a sausage. The couple who run the place are the friendliest folks I’ve met in a long time. They take pride in their products and services and it shows. Prices are better than the castle and others in the area, but the quality and customer service are really where they shine. Everything is fantastic. Walk in with high expectations and walk out with a bag of cheese, sausage, fish, mustard, and other goodies. You won’t be disappointed.

This shop was so great. My best friend and I were total down to the t tourist(minus the fanny packs) being in the shop. The owner was fabulous, very helpful and great suggestions. Me being a goofball I only wanted to purchase local«sconsin» products, he was able to guide us to exactly what we wanted and way way more!!! What was so exciting is that you can taste test every single cheese if you wanted. While existing our extremely fun experience my beer and apple ale broke through the bottom of the paper bag RIGHTINTHEDOORWAY. Of course… the owner without any hesitation replaced all the drinks for me… For my very first trip to Wisconsin, though very short, it was ended at the best cheese shop we could have asked for. Thanks mars cheese castle, you’re the best. Indiana loves cheese and now you guys!!!

MARSCHEESECASTLE! rambleramblerambleramble IT’S ANENTIRECASTLEMADEOFCHEESE! rambleramblenoitisn’trambleramble DAVEGROHL! rambrambleramblerambledie. Talk to anyone about the corner of I-94 and WI-142 and you’ll likely hear something along those lines. That’s cool if you want kitsch and façade but if you want the real deal, your destination is about 75 yeards south on the West Frontage Road. Bobby fucking Nelson’s. It’s a tiny store absolutely jam packed with everything we Sconnie’s like to eat. Cheese, homemade sausage, pickled stuff, candies. It’s phenomenal. On the way to watch the Packer’s in Cincy we stopped at got a variety of their sausages. Fresh pork brats, cheddar brats, garlic brats, jalapeño cheddar brats and a shit ton of cheese curds. One shit ton. The gal behind the counter was nice as can be and she was quick with a story or anecdote about the store. Leave the Castle to the tourists. People in the know tend to veer a little south.

As usual, been coming here for years but haven’t written a review yet… Used to go to the Cheese Castle, and it has its place– bigger selection, more touristy souvenirs. But right next door is this small shop with better sausage and cheese, and friendly staff(owners?) I get some curds, some sausage, once in a while something else little, and am on my way having spent much less money and time.

Good things come in small packages. Located within the proverbial stone’s throw of the Mars Cheese Castle, Bobby Nelson has been there for 64 years, dispensing cheese and sausage beside I-94. It’s kinda like an old-fashioned general store, with cheese and meat located in glass refrigerator cases. No self service here, tell them how much you want(«I’ll have 2 pounds of sliced Havarti, please») and it will be hand-prepared for you. Skip the castle — this place is the real deal. Bring cash, please. :) Let me rephrase that — great things come in small packages!

Old School– best sign on I-94, great owners, great history. This is the place to buy some really great meats and cheeses. Bobby Nelson? He’s the wrestler(with a great moustache) who invented the Half and Full Nelson. His photo is emblazoned on the wall, and his history is all over this smallish cheese shop. The shop offers the best cheeses you’ll need, and the Landjaegers are great. Toss these folks some of your hard earned cash, you won’t regret it.

Bobby Nelson’s. The teeny tiny, German, family-owned, fairly priced, bare minimum specialty grocery shop, and shadow of Mars Cheese Castle. That may sound bad, but I REALLY like this place. If I have the choice between here and Mars, and I am not looking to score some cheese bread or beer, I come here. Mars has EVERYTHING, but BN’s has the best of what you need. Bobby Nelson’s has excellent cheeses and meats, delicious Wisconsin made honey and jams, and jars of every pickled good you can imagine. They only take cash, and they are teeny tiny, but I promise you will love everything you get from here. PROMISE.
