My company is moving offices and has spoken to several different furniture vendors in the Atlanta area. We went to the GCS office and met with Cameron, one of their account executives, about what we were looking for. After visiting several showrooms, we compiled a list of what furniture we had seen that we liked best and sent it to our top 3 contenders. 2 of them let me know that they had received my email and sent follow-up emails or called me to let me know that they were making progress and when they expected to finish our quote. I heard nothing from Cameron for almost 2 weeks. When I finally received his quote, about 80% was not the furniture that we asked for, but much pricier alternatives that were not even similar in style. He also spoke very negatively about the brand of desks that we had chosen, stating that«if you move it the wrong way it will break.» We had heard great things about this brand from other vendors, who I think had a better understanding that we needed to be cost effective because our move was going to be very expensive. I emailed Cameron back and let him know that his lack of contact after my initial email combined with his decision to not quote what we asked for meant that we would not be giving them this project. My email was strongly worded, I will not deny that, but I genuinely felt that someone needed to tell this service industry professional that the way to get jobs is not to completely ignore what the client asked you to do or «bash» a company/brand in an attempt to upsell. The response that I received was shocking in nature. Cameron told us that we «deserve what you have coming with this furniture,» he «really regret[s] putting myself and our designer through this much work,» and he assumed I was«having a bad day.» The strangest part is that he CCed his boss on this email, which I certainly would not do if the content of the email consisted of my insulting a potential client who is going to relate this story to others. So I can only assume that this attitude and treatment is acceptable to everyone at this company. Steer clear!
