As a Mexican from the west coast this place is the closest I’ve gotten to food from back home! Tacos are amazing and they even offer elote on occasion! This place is my go to spot and the chips and salsa are addicting! I also love the micheladas here as they are the only ones that Make them properly!!! Side note to these other reviews; Mexicans don’t go to restaurants and order quesadillas those are mostly for fickle children. There are so many other amazing things on the menu and you choose a tortilla with cheese inside?

We had a Living Social and were hoping for authentic Mexican food that would be better than usual. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed in the food. The service was good and the place appeared clean. My husband liked the chips and salsa. I tried one of his chips and it was bad; so bad I had to spit it out, it tasted like bad fish :( . I got the 3 dish combo plate and it had a chicken flauta, chicken tostida and a chicken enchilada. It’s sad to say but they all tasted the same-bad. One was so bad, I took one bite and couldn’t finish it. First time too I experienced beans and rice with chopped up Vienna sausages in them. And the beans were watery with a seafood gumbo taste. The chicken in the combo plate was shredded and tasted very old. Needless to say, we won’t be back and the final dagger was my stomach was extremely upset all night :(

The salsa is perfection but my quesadilla was poorly made and definitely not what I was told to expect. Portions are small for a place so many refer to as authentic. Five dollars extra charge if you want guacamole. We will not be returning. Salsa and guacamole(not the price) were the only highlights. I will not be returning and I’m sad because I love nothing more than finding yummy foreign food finds.

Awwww yummy, authentic food! We are so glad we found this place. The salsa and chips were very good and spicy but not too hot. I had the grilled steak tacos– delicious.

I was expecting not amazing, but a far better experience than I had. I went for lunch, and was the only person dining at the time. I ordered a diet coke. The waitress brought it, and told me «it doesn’t taste good» … She was right, there was no carbonation. I ordered a chicken quesadilla … Which the menu said was to come with sour cream and guac. When she brought my meal out, there was neither. I asked about the missing items, and was told«we are out» The food was nothing special, and the service was on the side of terrible. Not a place I’m willing to give another try.

The best part about this restaurant is the service. The lady was polite. The salsa was a winner. It was warm and spicy. It all goes downhill from there. My pupusa was bland and almost empty. The stuffed pepper was just not good. The refried beans were good but not enough to redeem the plate of food that was pretty, but not as tasty as a frozen TV dinner. Maybe with the copious amounts of Mexican food I eat, I just don’t know authentic Mexican food. Well, after eating part of a sadly constructed plate here, im ok with that. There is a semblance of cleanliness about the place, unless you look up. See the picture I posted of the door closer. As a bonus, you can sit on the toilet and wash your hands, which im proud to say I did despite the likelihood that they would be contaminated by the hall door. I know I sound snobbish but the difference in the dining area and the facilities was staggering. It makes me wonder why the only view into the kitchen was blocked.

We moved here about two months ago, and moved in not too far from La Azteca and it was really good. Spending most of my life in southern Texas(5 minutes from Mexico) and spending a ton of time in central Mexico, I was wonderfully surprised when we finished our meal at La Azteca. First of all their in house salsa is purely amazing.(To the point where we will just go in and get some to go.) The kids had the tacos(I cannot remember the name that was listed but they are similar to what we are used to, known as «el Pastor» or even«Reynosa.» For this area, it has been a blessing to find some«authentic» Mexican food that we have yet to find around. Very pleased, we will continue to eat here!

I thought this was the next best Mexican restaurant around where I live. My wife and I gave up on Casa Garcia because the chicken tacos were sickening. The meat was so salty I could tell it wasn’t fresh… it was probably loaded w/preservatives to give the meat a longer shelf life. It seems like so many restaurants in the outskirts of new orleans do this. I thought La Azteca would be different. Out first experience their was good but tonight we ordered chicken quesadillas and it was like they put the quesadillas in the microwave way too long; it was was stiff as cardboard! One other thing we noticed we called and called to try to get it to go. Busy signal every time. So me and my wife went there to order and guess what no one was on the phone. I am not sure what is going on with La Azteca, but I thought they had lots of potential. I gave them one star b/c the shrimp quesadillas we got tonight were not over cooked. Guess if we do not feel like going out our way to get good Mexican food we should just cook ourselves:)

La Azteca popped on my radar when looking for lunch out in Kenner, brah. I liked the look of the place(and took note of the sign for micheladas… but not on a workday), so went in and placed my «baseline» Mexican order — tacos al pastor — the standard by which I judge Mexican fast food. Let me be clear: tacos al pastor done correctly are magnificent in their beautiful simplicity. Strips of marinated pork slowly turning for hours on a gyro-style spit-roaster with a pineapple cooking on top, with all the naughty, spicy pork love juices coming together before being shaved into a pair of small corn tortillas, a flick-of-the-wrist slice of pineapple, cilantro and onion. I’ve eaten countless tacos al pastor and they hold a special place in my stomach’s heart of hearts. The problem is that I’ve yet to see a proper al pastor set up in a stateside restaurant. I get it, there’s not the same volume as down south, where there can be a daily spit-roast turning away, wafting porkish aromas across the neighborhood. Up north in the good ol EEUU, you’ll get marinated pork cooked on a flat top. And sure enough, the same was true with La Azteca’s tacos al pastor. Their tacos weren’t bad by any stretch, but they weren’t the tacos that I have dreams about and for which I am contemplating buying a plane ticket just to make a weekend trip to DF to eat some tacos al pastor. I’ll be back to try the weekend pozole and maybe a litro of the aforementioned michelada on a hot day. Last comment: at La Azteca you’ll order in Spanish. Here is my recurring soapbox speech — and this comes from a guy as guero as they come — there is absolutely no excuse for anyone living in America today to be unable AT A MINIMUM to order food in Spanish. There is no political component to this — it is simply a matter of being a conscious and aware member of society. You don’t have to be the next Octavio Paz, just know some pleasantries and how to place an order. Hunger will overcome any language barrier, trust me.

Hmmm… how do I put into words how I feel about this place? I think the food is pretty good, but not SPECTACULAR. It’s just average in my book. I’ve never come here voluntarily. It was always due to an event or a meeting that was held here. So, I don’t think I would actually think to come here, much less make it there on my own. Nothing stood out to me to the point that made me want to come back. It’s just ok. Nothing bad about it, yet nothing amazing. The food is good so I guess if you’re looking for good Mexican food, stop by!

Very authentic… Margeritas are Great, atmosphere is cool, and let me tell you, do not go in there expecting that they will understand everything you are saying or waited on hand and foot LOL but it was the authenticity and experience of food that we really liked. appetizer: We had plantain chips covered in some meat and salsa sauce(a 1st time) it wasn’t what I thought it was going to be but it was really awesome we both loved it. Lauren had the enchiladas… I really don’t care for enchilladas but she liked these. I also had the 3 flour soft tacos with avocado wedges, beef, pico de gallo and tomatilla salsa… these tacos were the best ever. complimetary chips and salsa Over all very cool place to eat and I will recommend it to anyone who is not a spoiled brat and wants some authentic Latin food different from the normal«tex mex» around here. Good Stuff!
