Kenner is the 6th largest city in Louisiana. It houses a great convention center, and the major airport for New Orleans. Its population began growing after some of the swamp land was drained and filled in during the 1950’s. In 1982, a Pan Am flight crashed in a residential area, destroying some homes and killing all on board. There isn’t much to the city, other than a casino boat, a few interesting festivals and Oktoberfest. It has some nice parks in the area, a nice area by the lake, and one by the river. That is about all there is to the town of Kenner. Other than a fading mall that I hope was once interesting, but there doesn’t seem to attract many customers. It seems to be a sleeping city.

Just trying to find something to do since I miss my flight it’s very cold today and looks like there is a lot of places to eat and lots of parks.

Small town like so many others scattered all over the country. I can’t give more much more as our visit requires a quick drive through of only a small area

The City of Kenner is in some ways, just like any other city. It is a suburb of New Orleans, so there are all the usual issues. Traffic can be terrible and crime has bloomed since 2005. Some of the areas in Kenner are downright scary. During the holiday season, you hear about purse snatching and such. But there is always a feeling of home here. Things move at a relaxed and lazy pace. Since Katrina there is a huge increase in the Mexican/Latin population. It is rare to go to a store and not hear people speaking Spanish. It was never like that before Katrina. A bonus is the increase in Mexican and Latin restaurants. They have some tasty choices. There are people from all social classes. There are multi-million dollar houses and little tiny hovels just a few yards apart. There are all races and plenty of places to eat and have fun. There are museums and parks, and there is always a police car nearby. They are parked around the city as some type of black and white vehicular deterrents to crime. Don’t get too bold, there are always real live police in the area ready to collar any evil doers and write you a ticket if you speed in a 20MPH zone. The city has a culture all its own. After you live in the area for a while, you can spot the«Kennah accent Brah.» The people in general are super cool, down to earth and a fiercely proud bunch. I have never been left stranded on the side of the road or in a parking lot in Kenner without someone offering to help. In times of disaster, the people of Kenner, like everywhere in the surrounding area, bond together, shake hands and get the job done. I have never lived here, but I shop here often, commute through here and the city is part of my everyday life.

Kenner occupies a quantum civic state. It is both a suburb of New Orleans and technically it’s own City. A lot of natives tease Kenner, but we still love it. No, really. It’s got our major airport for starters. Throw in a nice convention center and some casino boats and now we have a good time. Most people have no idea of Kenner’s history, like that it was first settled by the Tchoupitoulas Indians.

Really. No one has reviewed the great city of Kenner? I find this hard to believe. After all, we all go to Kenner to go to the airport. Otherwise Kenner is just a suburb of New Orleans which is really too bad because it’ has a really long history. Did you know that there used to be a street car all the way from the city to Williams & Jefferson Highway? It ceased in 1931.
