My trip to Maine would not be completed if I didn’t try the popular Maine lobster. Kennebunkport is a very gorgeous city and this restaurant fits right in. Parking was very limited and we were lucky to park in one of the few spots across the street. Maybe there is parking somewhere else that I didn’t know about. We started off with clam chowder. That was amazing! It wasn’t overly salty and the amount of creaminess was just right. Then we had the lobster that was already split open with the butter sauce. The lobster was very meaty which was enough for the two of us. Yes, lobster was expensive but that was a given since lobster overall is expensive. Our service that day was great which the staff was nice and inviting. Come check out this place for some great lobsters!

Wow! Just wow! Love this place! You can choose to sit outside or inside, both very casual for a seafood restaurant. We went ahead inside because we made reservation(it was getting busy by 6pm). It’s an inviting ambience with super friendly people. I must say, it’s been awhile since I’ve encountered a server at this caliber. He was able to articulate how various menu items are prepared along with giving us a breakdown of what the specials were for the day. Also, he was very attentive and made sure our drinks were filled while making sure all of his other tables were tended to as well. He was on top of everything. Food: We all decided to have the same entrée for dinner– the 11/8lb lobster, and because were walking around for a few hours, we also requested them to be lazy man style. Boy, oh boy was it deeeeelish! Cooked perfectly and the meat was fresh and tender(not rubbery at all!). Yum!!! Overall, the service was exceptional! They made us feel special and created a lasting impression. [:

Most favorite spot in the port for New England fare. We always get the same thing, stuffed shrimp & a «duke» and raspberry pie ala mode for dessert. Atmosphere is rustic and the servers are always kind.

This was ok. Paid a lot for what we got and in my opinion the food was somewhat bland. Not an awful experience by any means-server was very nice and helpful. But definitely didn’t live up to what I was expecting based on previous reviews.

I find giving Mabels a 2 star rating difficult. I really wanted to like it. I love the area it is in. I love the history and I was really excited to be there. However, the food and the staff’s attitude just didn’t take them very far. We ordered the Lobster salad and the Halibut special. Both were overcooked, which made them dry and a little bit chewy. Flavors were ok though. The vegetable of the day was boiled beets. Interestingly, they came out by mistake, so I tried one. Decent flavor, but just not appetizingly presented. The best part of the dinner was the signature Peanut Butter Pie. Oh, and the staff. The owner(I am guessing) was a delight! But the rest of the staff didn’t smile and didn’t seem very happy. I am glad I have been, but wish I could say I wanted to go back.

I ordered the lobster savannah and my fiancé ordered fried shrimp and haddock. I thought the savannah was terrific, fried shrimp was fantastic but the Cole slaw was a bit odd for my liking and the haddock was kind of bland. All in all we really enjoyed the food. The waitstaff was pleasant and the restaurant was pretty neat.

Best lobster I have ever had. They also have delicious lobster Mac n cheese which I had for an appetizer. Even the fries I got on the side were good! The blueberry pie for dessert is also sooooo good.

The best meal I had in the entire state of Maine was here at Mabel’s Lobster Claw. Thank you, Doctor Elsie W., for recommending it and thank you LifeOnMacro, for writing such great travelogues. Food:. We ordered amazing fried oysters for appetizer. My wife ordered the lobster Milanese, which was the special for the day. It had a whole lobster steamed, cut in half, with shrimp all over. What a sight! I ordered the Duke, which had lobster meat wrapped in perfectly cooked Haddock with some bread crumbs on top. Even the fries that came with both meals were delicious! Dessert was a beautiful blueberry pie a la mode. Service: our server was extremely responsive. So much so that I left her a fat cash tip. Décor: there are interesting signs to be found on the walls. You just have to look for yourself ;P. A must in Kennebunkport. Worth a trip from Acadia when in Maine. I hope to return someday.

Don’t be fooled by the inexplicably high Unilocal ratings– this is a garden variety seafood tourist trap of the kind that speckle the quainter places of the American Northeast. Or seafood was overcooked and rubbery, everything else was just adequate. If you have literally never eaten lobster before this might impress you, otherwise skip it.

Nothing special, you can get this seafood dinner, including the lobster in any shore town in the northeast/midatlantic, wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.

While we stayed the night in Portland we spent the day in nearby Kennebunkport as there is much to do and see. We decided to stay for dinner and I used my handy dandy Unilocal app to locate a good seafood restaurant and found little old Mabel’s. I gave them a call to ensure they could accommodate our mothers wheelchair and they assured us that they could. Super quaint and what seems to be a converted home, Mabel’s is so quintessential New England and just what one would picture in a movie. I started with a cup of the clam chowder. Hearty, creamy, and with the freshest clams I’ve ever had, it was perfection. The entrée was The Duke which combined several of my seafood faves: scallops, lobster and shrimp. Baked in a wine and garlic sauce and topped with toasted breadcrumbs this was absolutely divine. Everything was unbelievably fresh and delicious and the service was fantastic. I will say that this place is small and I’m glad we came when we did around 4:30 as this little spot filled up quickly within an hour of us being there. Don’t pass it up if you’re in the area!

Says you are open today. «Closed for the season.» We drove over here because you appear to be one of the only places open on a Monday in February… Still, if you are going to be on Unilocal,at least make sure your information is up to date.

The wife and I traveled to Boston in September to visit my mom/sister. We drove to Kennenbunkport and decided to stop here for a lobster roll as we were all craving one. The place is rather old and a little cramped inside, but we were seated in a corner style booth(where apparently Bush Sr. likes to sit), which was kind of neat. We started off by sharing some fried calamari, which was nice. We all opted for the lobster roll and were very pleased. The rolls are large and you get tons of quality lobster meat on there. Price were about what we expected. The service was decent, nothing special, but nothing to complain about either. A good spot to stop at for a lobster roll!

They have a takeout area as well as a quaint outdoor patio(dog-friendly). Outside of a woman who initially gave us a hard-time about our dog, the staff was very pleasant, polite, and provided excellent recommendations. The portions are large and everything was delicious. While you have to be there for seafood, the onion rings are a nice addition. Definitely come with your appetite and be prepared to share. They have a mix of small plates, entrees, and shared plates(stuffed lobster). The location is also right next to a few shops across the street, ice cream, and a safe distance away from the downtown traffic. Definitely worth a visit!

Again shellfish allergy directed me to order swordfish. It’s been more than ten years since I’ve ordered this. This thick cut was blackened with Cajun spices and very tender. This size able portion made for a great meal. It came with beets and salad. After that great meal, I ordered a house are Maine blueberry pie. This was sweet with a buttery crust and excellent. The noise level was low and the service was great. I was surprised about the bathroom. There is a shared sink, and then you have two separate toilets.

My friend recommended Mabel’s Lobster Claw and the stuffed shrimp dish which she said was still memorable years later. Apparently she isn’t the only fan as the Bush family are regulars whenever they are in town. We arrived early enough that we were able to get a seat without waiting and only 2 tables away from the designated Bush table. Although the lobster entrees looked wonderful, I did not want to have lobster overload all in one day even though, «When in Maine…». As a compromise, I went for that baked shrimp stuffed with chunks of Maine lobster in lightly seasoned bread crumbs while hubby got the blackened swordfish special of the day. All dinners come with a choice of 2 sides, baked potato, salad, vegetables, which happened to be warm beets that day, or fries and your comp bread is mini corn muffin and blueberry bread, a nice change of pace. For dessert, we had to try the blueberry pie a la mode as «When in Maine»… I hate to say it, although the ice cream was good, I was underwhelmed by the pie in comparison to the slice I had that morning at Two Fat Cats Both dishes were very good and you do get good amount of food for a good price.

This place is good for fresh Maine seafood. Indoor seating is very outdated but we came here for the food. Hubby had the lobster in Newburg Sauce $ 28. It came with 2 slices of toast, halved. There had to be a whole lobster swimming in the sauce. It’s a creamy sauce with a few silvers of mushrooms. Came with a side of coleslaw and shoestring fries. He pronounced it good. I had the large steamers that came with broth and drawn butter, $ 18. The steamers were nice. Sweet and fresh. My only gripe was half of them were full of sands. Not appetizing but that is what the broth was for. Would have loved it if the steamers were a bit cleaner. Our waitress was pleasant. Offered us the dessert menu but we skipped that to hop over to the French café in town for some macaroons and coffee.

We went to Mables on a day trip to Maine. First off Kennebunkport is BEAUTIFUL! Once we were done walking around town we made our way to Mables which is a bit outside of town. We all got lobster. It came with a salad and sides which was nice. I got the lobster milanese and it was very delicious. With that being said this was not a cheap dinner but it was very enjoyable! After dinner I was rolled out to the car because I was too stuffed!
