Seaside Inn and Cottages

4 stars because this was exactly what we were looking for. On the beach, vintage New England Inn. We had a bottom room floor & I adored the wooden floors creaking & the solid feeling of the building. Extras include bicycles and chairs to take to the beach, great patio -& another upstairs outside patio with a hot tub. They even had a laundry-​greatly appreciated! They aren’t kidding about the muffins. Dare I say it-​the best I have ever had in my life.
My husband loves swimming so if you love the beach and a quiet place, stay here. We are from California-​if we lived closer we would stay here ²⁴⁄₇!
My only suggestion is to move the smoking area out to the lawn somewhere.

Fresh eggs and baked blueberry muffins on the continental breakfast! People are warm and wonderful, the place is immaculately clean. Spacious rooms but dated décor.

Bottom line: We will not stay here again.
Pros:
1. Just a little walkway distance /​sidewalk to the beach
2. Room was good enough
3. Little mini breakfast: fruit, toast, cereal and muffins
4. mini fridge in the room
Cons:
1. Old building means if you are on the first floor (as we were) the creaking and shaking from people walking above you will literally wake you up and prevent you from sleeping. I live downstairs in my two-​family older home, so I’m not new to «upstairs» walking. I will say this was ridiculous.
2. On arrival, GPS said, «Arriving at Seaside Motor Inn,» and I do believe that name more fits this establishment. For a motor inn, I would consider it adequate.
3. toilet did not flush easily. Always flushed but had to try more than once sometimes.
4. Our mattress was extremely hard. It felt like sleeping on the floor. We both woke up (when the upstairs people got up and woke us, of course) with sore backs.
5. heat in the room — First is was cold, around 60 degrees. There is a thermostat in the room so I turned it up to 68 degrees. Next thing I knew we were sweating and the temperature reading on the thermostat showed 82 degrees! I turned the heat OFF altogether, and temperature remained at 82 degrees most of the day. A few relevant points to this: The outside temperature this day was 5 degrees. We opened the porch door TO that frigid outdoors in order to try to let some heat escape. The heaters in the room were stone cold at that point, while the temperature was still unbearably warm. In fact, I say 82 degrees but it was possibly even hotter. The thermostat can only measure up to 82, and the little needle was an a full tilt to the max reading of 82.
… We actually had paid for two nights but left before spending the second night there — decided to just head home to sleep in peace, quiet & comfort.

My girlfriend and I stayed here off season (early April) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint, comfortable inn. Our second floor room had a gorgeous view of the ocean, and although the weather was you’d expect in Maine in April, we enjoyed our walks on the beach (although we were bundled up like we were skiing). The staff was wonderful and extremely friendly, the breakfast was good and the rooms were clean with comfortable beds. Great price, too, as we were off season. If you get a chance, stay here. The staff will treat you right and the views from the second floor are phenomenal. I can’t wait to get a chance to stay here in the summer!

Visiting the Seaside Inn has become a yearly Valentine’s Day tradition for my wife and I. Of course, Kennebunk Maine in February can be quite a culture shock for out of towners, considering much of the town is closed, but the folks at the Seaside make sure that you are comfortable and feel welcome. For us, the experience is like visiting family. One day we will have to visit during the peak summer months.

Comfortable room, wonderful view of the water from second-​floor room, helpful and gracious staff, and delicious breakfast. Highly recommended as a Maine coastal getaway for a couple of nights

This is our favorite place to go to relax and get away from all the stress of daily life. It is right on the ocean and the private beach is the best ever. The staff are wonderful; from the front desk to housekeeping to the wonderful lady who prepares steel cut oatmeal and homemade muffins every morning. He rooms are spotless, the area is near dock square, and you can shop, enjoy night life, or just chill and enjoy privacy and total quiet.

We needed a place to stay in ME and wanted to be pretty close to Kennebunk as we had a party to attend. We called 2 days before our planned arrival and we loved the man we spoke with about the reservation. He was friendly and sweet and told us we would have a great ocean view on the 2^nd floor and breakfast in the morning. Sounded perfect to us and the price was pretty reasonable. It was a pretty miserable June day in Maine when we arrived. Rainy and windy and cold. But it was fine because we were there for a graduation and not for a vacation. We were checked in by a woman that was slightly less than friendly. She told us we owed her the tax money because she wouldn’t be there when we checked out. Sounded odd, but we obliged. Our room was at the end of the first floor hall nearest to the hot tub. It was nice enough, but the only view we had was of the back of the Inn house. We had to keep all the shades closed at all times because a few people were walking by and some were even working outside. We had no outside light in our room at all because of this… it was a weird experience, but still fine. Our bed was super creaky and I think it woke both of us up through out the night. When it was morning we went to breakfast and it was pretty good. The blueberry muffins were tasty and the fruit and hard boiled eggs were enough for me. My husband had a bagel.
This is a hotel I might stay at again because it was very close to the Ocean and to the tourist area. I just wished we had the room we were promised.

Looking for a quaint, comfortable, family-​oriented beach hotel in a beautiful area of southern Maine? Look no further than the Seaside Inn! This little-​known inn is one of the oldest run family hotels in the country. It has been in the Gooch family for centuries!
The rooms are kept fabulously clean by Janice and the rest of the maid staff.

Location, location, location! Right on Gooch’s beach, this inn is a fabulous deal for anyone looking for close proximity to shopping while being able to spend hours on the beach. When I was up in Kennebunk, I stayed in a first floor room and was just steps from the beach. The second floor rooms have a perfect ocean view. You can even jump in the hot tub if you’re not a cold ocean water fan!
Just next door to the Franciscan House and down the street from all of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport’s restaurants and shops, this place really is the best of the best.
The comfort is not matched anywhere. The old world feel is wonderful and inviting.
The breakfasts served every morning are fabulous! You have the following to choose from: steel-​cut oatmeal, freshly baked muffins from scratch, boiled eggs, cantaloupe, cereals etc. It’s part of the hotel package!
Please consider this little inn. It really is a wonderful place for families to stay. :-)
