Kennebooks

I want to love this place, and stop in every time I am in the area to try to support it, but it’s just not exceptional. It has a very limited selection, which would be fine if it were a good «pick up a random serendipitous book» kind of place (there are, of course, many small bookstores like that). But the selection here is completely uninspired. Too much garbage commercial fiction. And, unlike some small bookstores, if you ask the staff for recommendations, these folks are useless (compare: Park Road Books in Charlotte, where, if you ask them for suggestions, they will ask you for the last three books you liked and run around finding awesome next books — that’s my kind of bookstore! Compare: Fountain Books in Richmond.).
Hope this place does well, because I want a good place for my vacations. But I have gotten in the habit of bringing books to Maine for vacation reading rather than hoping in find something here.
Support it though — there are not many independent bookstores left!
