I have been by this unassuming building in Kennebunk multiple times without realizing what it truly was… A glorious treasure to the past steeped in the present. The Brick Store Museum has two levels, a courtyard and out building. I was there with friends to celebrate Yuri’s Night, the first man in space. On Friday night they had a live Skype with an astronaut. On Sunday they were having a special viewing of the space race in the upstairs«bedroom» and had an exhibit with multiple 8×11 stands featuring different events throughout the space race. Additionally there were telescopes set up by the local club and I got to see Venus and Jupiter. The rocket club was there as well. A dance area with music, brownies, cookies and a Yuri cake were set up with the friendly and cheerful Bruce to serve up food, drink and good conversation. We checked out the exhibits currently there of various illustrators, birds, shells and civil war era posters. They also have a small gift shop where you can get pickled garlic, books and event up cycled purses and bags made from banners used for events. We had a great time and enjoyed our glow sticks and Yuri stickers. The only thing I would have liked to have left with was more information on Yuri himself. I have begun flowing them on Facebook and they are always having events that sound interesting. I will be back!
