«I WANTTOCATCH A REALFISH» My 9yr old wanted to fish from a boat while on the big island so I searched Unilocal for sport fishing and came up with a bunch of companies. There were only 3 other Unilocal reviews when I booked the trip, and I’m glad I took a chance and booked a half-day charter with Siren Sportfishing. Here are a few reasons why I chose this company over the rest, and why I would call them again for our next trip to the big island.(and oh yes, my son is already planning for next summer when we go back) 1. LOCATION: The boat leaves out of Kawaiahae harbor. This is less busy than the harbors down by Kailua-Kona, so there are less boats trying to fish the same waters as you. The harbor was a 10min drive north from Waikoloa, where we were staying, which was convenient for us. 2. PRIVATECHARTER: «Reel Screamer» is a 35 foot yacht with a toilet(no running water) and an indoor cabin that provided some shade and a couch that could sleep two people easily. I wasn’t sure how my kids were going to take to the ocean so I wanted to make sure they would be comfortable during the trolling. My kids did just fine(thanks to the nice patch I stuck behind their ears). It was nice to have the private charter since this was our first time on a real fishing boat. 3. THECAPTAIN: Captain Bob took us out and found a nice sized fish for us to catch. Well, it was a nice size for us anyway. We were fishing on the same day that guy pulled in the 1368 pound Marlin off the coast of Kona. Our fish was probably 18lbs, which is just the right size for my son. The captain and deck hand basically did all the hard work for us and let us keep the prize. When we heard the reel spinning, they got everything ready to bring the fish straight into the ice cooler. To say my son was excited when he reeled in his first big fish is a complete understatement! My son is almost 5ft tall and the Ono(Wahoo) was almost as tall as him. 4. EATWHATYOUCATCH: I don’t know what the rules are for other boats, but I know some boats do not let you take home what you catch because they sell it at the auction to help keep their costs down. Captain Bob let us keep all the meat from the fish my son caught. He even cleaned and cut the fish into nice fillet pieces and put them in ziploc bags for us. We took it back with us on our flight to Honolulu later that day and we got to eat some amazing ginger crusted ono, ono fish tacos, and broiled ono. ONO! My son is HOOKED! This is the only way I ever want to go fishing again.

My family and extended family have been fishing with this crew for 20 years. This is an amazing crew. Extreme knowledge paired with extraordinary personalities and professionalism have made this a family tradition across us cousins over these many years. We never miss a chance to book.

We have fished with the team at Siren many times over the past 10 years. We always catch a fish or two and have a wonderful family experience. Their boat is safe, clean and comfortable and crew is very attentive and accommodating. A wonderful day on the water when you’re anywhere along the Kohala coast.
