Dental Image

Felt like I was dealing with a used car salesman. Went in for a dental exam for a job, but once my insurance was verified the upselling began (cleaning, retainer, mold). I informed the dentist I didn’t have time for all that, and she made me feel like I was a waste of her time, because I didn’t want a full dental overhaul. Insurance or not I’m not buying what your selling SORRY!

I went to Dental Image because I heard Dr. Lori Masuda was good. However, when I went there she had just moved and Dr. Chang had taken her place. I had a loose crown and was going on a trip. Dr. Chang assured me she could fix it quickly and efficiently before my trip. Well midway into treatment, everything changed. I can provide details to those that want them, but basically she only wanted my money because her business was new. She said she was going to put a crown on my tooth — instead she put on a veneer bridge over several of my teeth. She made me pay in advance for what dental insurance did not cover but then on the last day, she said I owed her $ 1,300 more than what she had quoted me — AND that was for putting on the wrong thing AND filing a perfectly good FRONT TOOTH down halfway without telling me she was going to do that. Once a year she still sends me the $ 1,300 bill which I can prove I don’t owe her. And now — only 2.5 years later, I have to have all the dentistry work she did completely redone. Between the insurance company and myself, we paid her about $ 5,000 only to have to start all over now. I am beyond sick and disappointed. At that time, she also tried to tell my husband that all his fillings needed to be replaced IMMEDIATELY — 2.5 years later his teeth are fine and he has had no problems at all.
At one point in my treatment, she gave me several numbing shots — and one of them she said whoops on and I have had nasal problems ever since. I have also had an unexplained hemofacial spasm in the same area.
One day while waiting, I heard a man screaming. The door was open and they quickly closed it and said that he was getting his tooth fixed and didn’t have time for anesthesia. I wish I could have talked to him. I would LOVE to talk to anyone who had similar problems as I did, I really believe this dentist is dangerous.
The day Dr. Chang supposedly completed my dental work — the day before I left for a 2 month trip on the Mainland which she had told me she had plenty of time to fix my teeth before leaving for — she told me and her assistant that the work was not right and I would have to come back later to fix it. I was speaking with a lisp; there was a space between my 2 front teeth that was never there before and I felt like the whole bridge was loose. But when I tried to go back upon my return to Hawaii — I was told I would have to pay the additional $ 1,300 she decided to charge me after the fact before I could come back. I would never go back to her and I sure hope no one has to go through all the pain, time and expense I went through.

I have been going to Dr. Lori Masuda since I’ve been here — four years. Those that know me, know how picky I am especially with dentists and hairstylists. My friend Megan referred me to this dentist and «swears» she’s GOOD. She was actually right.
So I took the risk and trusted her recommendation. I’m glad I did! She’s nice, caring, sociable, and professional rolled into one. Her staff is super friendly! Especially her dental hygienist. I just had my cleaning done last week and had a great time — yes, you read correctly — I had a great time:-)
I’m not great at keeping up with my flossing or rinsing my mouth after drinking coffee and the staff here don’t make me feel like «crap» for not doing a good job with this. THANK YOU! for never making me feel like a criminal:)
Her office is always clean and still looks brand new. Her equipment is up-​to-​date so don’t worry. She’s on top of the times:-) Dr. Masuda replaced my bottom fillings with clear ones. She didn’t replace the top ones b/​c they were still good so you know she’s not after your $$$. And I have never left this office in any degree of pain. Highly recommend her!!!
