We had planned to come here to play local tourist per other Yeeps’ recommendations, yet didn’t expect much being that this café restaurant is literally in the boonies. Tourists do pass thru here, but it’s not a bustling town like Kailua on Oahu. Our first time we had a half Greek half Rosemary Gorgonzola pizza. Everything from the crust to the cheese and toppings were top quality and prepared perfectly. Those who like Café Pesto in Hilo won’t be disappointed here. For breakfast the next morning we had a macadamia nut waffle and grilled veggie wrap. Mmmmmmm nuff said:-) It wasn’t busy when we were there granted it was low season for tourism and we arrived in Kapaau quite late, but it’s a relief to know that there’s a delicious place to eat in Kapaau 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu has sufficient variation so you probably won’t get bored after eating there a few times. The atmosphere is quite nice and the staff were friendly. If you go to Kohala you must eat here at least twice.

This place is great amazing pizza and sandwiches(we had a tuna melt) even the potato salad rocks. Smoothie was awesome and the staff is very friendly. Cost was less than 50 $ which is amazing for what you get in Hawaii! Just an awesome place! Everything is delicious!

Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of pizza but my husband is. I’m now a new fan of pizza thanks to this place. We tried a ½ & ½ Pesto Chicken & Supreme Pizza. Delicious!!! Crust was so crispy! Not hard & chewy, but truly crispy! The Supreme was good, but the Pesto Chicken won me over. We will definitely go here again next time we are on the Island. May even stop in for breakfast tomorrow before heading back to Hilo area.

Really great pizza. We had a rosemary Gorgonzola and a Supreme. Both were as good as any in Fremont, CA. Almost as good as Bronco Billy’s in Niles.

Aloha, I had not bought anything at the King’s café lately. Mostly because I don’t make enough money to eat out. I have been seeing others eat there and ate the left overs. Pizza seems really good now! When I went with my friend who was ordering a pizza, Wednesday, nov 5th. I notice the sign outside said, «pot roast, hot sub» Now I couldn’t resist that! Beef! So I ordered, no cheese, just mayo and lettuce. after 15 min. I went to the counter to check. The tall dark haired gay man was talking to the other short female worker. She saw me and smiled and said, «it would be done soon». I watch the man go to the oven and retrieve the quite browned sandwich. I found out at that time that I had to choose a side dish that I didn’t care for and the price was over $ 13 dollars. Wow! I pulled weeds for one hr for this sandwich and I was hoping it was worth it. But the mayonnaise was already on the bread cooking with the beef in the oven. They added the large chunk of lettuce to the burnt ciabatta bread. I had to pull off all the hard blacked bread edges so it didn’t scrape and hurt the roof of my mouth. The beef was very lightly seasoned or not at all. The man never smiled at me when he slid the box at me even as I was complimenting how the food seemed really good lately. I got totally nausea sick and diarrhea that evening and the next day. absolutely not due to any other food I ate. It was probably the mayo heated. bad experience and I was hesitant in the first place. colleen Roberts I was pleased that the beef was mostly edible with not a lot of grissel or fat like other sandwiches I’ve had at other places.

This time, I had the breakfast pizza… which was on-point…the Portuguese sausage was totally delicious. All the food options in this spot are ono. I’ll be back to this resto when I travel north to see the lookout point or east to Waimea. Mahalo

It was my first time eating breakfast here and it did not disappoint. The Makapala omelet was ono! Never knew a pesto style omelet would taste so good and cheesy. Definitely have to come back for the pizza and ice cream.

Did I go to the wrong place or something??? The pizza is amazing??? Not at this place. It was mediocre at best. We were the only people there. That should have given us a clue, but we’d driven an hour to get there because the place has a 4 star average. I’m saying 3 stars because the staff were nice, but I’d never go back again.

Lunch was so good at this simple, roadside café off highway 270 in Kapaau. We passed all the restaurants before deciding on this spot and we were so glad we did. Open air, simple menu and beer… awesome stop for lunch. First off, the staff is awesome. Friendly doesn’t even describe them. Smiling the whole time, warm greetings, genuine farewell and a few members buzzing around keeping tables and the place clean. It’s not a fine dining experience, it’s a roadside café… with good food. We ordered the chicken caesar and a Hula Chicken Melt sandwich. Food was brought to the table in about 10 minutes and again, staff was smiling and friendly. Salad was HUGE and had plenty of chicken. My only complaint was that the dressing was on the side and caesar dressing is the kind you need to toss because it’s so thick. Not the worst thing in the world, just a preference. The sandwich was delicious as well and BBQ sauce was nice and sweet to go along with the pineapple, cheese, onions and tomatoes. I saw a few other tables eating pizzas and realized we should have ordered one also. I asked the table next to us and they said it was awesome. I’ll have to come back. Lunch on the front lanai with a direct seat in front of the King Kamehameha Statue(hence the name of the place), watching the cars pass by. A perfect stop to your day driving around the Big Island.

There’s a reason that you order and pay before you sit and wait for your food here. If you knew in advance how long the wait would be(and that you’d be tortured with country music during your wait), you might leave. During my 20 – 30 minute wait for a cold turkey cheese sandwich, I thought about asking for my money back and leaving, but didn’t. My smoothie arrived well after the sandwich. I kept wondering if the wait for pizza was an hour or more, but figured it would be rude to ask. Once it arrived, the sandwich was nice. Typical deli stuff. The smoothie was really good, though.

Our crew had two days of lunch from King’s View Café. The staff was friendly and the food was very good. The first day was a variety of sandwiches for 15 people. Very filling. We ordered a 10 pizzas another day and everyone loved them. The food was ready on time and delicious.

Casual atmosphere in Kapaau right across from the original King Kamehameha statue. The sandwiches were so good! My mom got the hot pastrami and I got the veggie pesto melt. Delicious, both of them(of course I tried my mom’s choice too). They were stuffed with ingredients. I had a ton of veggies in between melted, gooey cheesy goodness. I’ve had a pizza from Kings View Café before(chicken pesto artichoke, yummy) and that did not disappoint either. The café has a chill tiki style flair with souvenirs for sale too. Stop in on your way to or from Pololu Valley. We were stuffed afterwards, so bring an empty stomach.

After a zip-lining tour nearby, the whole family was famished at around 11:30 am. We stopped randomly at Kings View Café, mostly for the excellent location; on a lovely strip of road in the tiny town of Kapaau. The statue of Kamehameha I stood proudly across the street. Someone else has already posted a pic( ). I was a little disappointed they had ZERO Hawaiian-style plate lunch here, only sandwiches and pizza. But the rest of the family was satisfied with this, so I made due. I noted many Unilocal reviewers liked the pizza, and Kings View had a pulled pork version, so my choice was easy. Service was very cold. The woman who took our order was obviously miserable, and she did not stop frowning or fuming once during our entire lunch.(Later, after one of the local cops chatted her up about her attitude, she admitted she was working a long shift and was pissed about it.) Still… no need to poison the atmosphere. My pizza arrived and was tasty, but the crust was a little on the tough side — it was almost impossible to cut the bottom layer. My wife didn’t finish hers, partly due to the fact her crust was mildly burnt in a few spots(I kinda like the extra carbon myself). But she wasn’t very hungry. With all the other recommended spots in the area, we probably won’t visit here again, but it served it’s purpose well enough for our hungry family, so Kings View gets a passing grade.

I was visiting the Big Island for the second time and decided to take my family to the Kings View Café cause I remembered how good were their ice-creams. I’m a big fan of ice-creams and smoothies and this place makes really good ones! I had POG and macadamia nut. If you like fruity flavors this is your place for an ice-cream or a smoothie. The decoration of the café is very Hawaiian. Don’t expect something really fancy. You can eat in their patio in front of the statue of the King Kamehameha. Great stop if your are in the north visiting Hawi and Kapaau.

We bump to stop at this point n since we park in front of the restaurant. So we decide to stay for brunch. Ordered chicken pesto n Hawaiian combo. Surprising yummy. The crust is so crispy. You can tell the pizza is fresh made. Very good restaurant. Glad we stopped here. The staff of the restaurant is very nice too. Very helpful with direction too.
