Good products but way over priced even with a club card. I recommend going to food land instead with much more reasonable prices.

Huge Safeway near the Costco — which came in handy for those of us not needing an entire case of beer for our week’s stay(we’re only 2 people with places to be & things to see… can’t be hanging in the room, drinking beer the whole time) Found some great Hana nut ales & another porter we can’t wait to try. Their selection of beer & wine overall was super diverse & super impressive Also grabbed some coconut milk for our newly acquired Kauai coffee SBux inside the location — for those crazy enough not to want a local coffee experience

Their poke bowls are insanely good. You can sample them before you buy. We had a club card so for under $ 7, we got enough poke and rice to eat for 2 people. Or if you’re like us, we each got our own bowls and ate half and ate the other half for breakfast!

Before checking into our vacation rental, we stocked up at Costco. However, there are always the supplemental supplies that need to be purchased. This Safeway and the nearby Foodland fit that bill, although within this Island economy every thing is more expensive, even with the Club Card.

Didn’t receive the best customer service like everyone else seemed to have. We did go to the self check out so that we could have a quick transaction and yet there was still a delay as we were rudely questioned, «Which one of you are getting this?» For one, we weren’t even near the self checkout that had something rung up on it, and if she had paid attention, she would have seen that a tourist couple had rung up some alcohol and walked away after waiting to be serviced as they were buying alcohol. Maybe if she just asked us nicer and not in such a rough voice, then I wouldn’t be complaining.

It’s Safeway. You can find the usual items that you would expect and it is surprisingly cheaper than Foodland! I went to Foodland first, because it’s where I am accustomed to shopping at whenever I’m in Hawaii, but they offered ZERO organic options(boy, has my food preferences changed!)… so Safeway gets an extra star for carrying organic stuff. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even bother shopping here.

We order a small cake for the three of us. It was our son’s fourth birthday. Debbie took my order and had good ideas for the little cake. Arnold, the cake decorator, made the cutest cake! He fit everything I asked for. The cake was had a nice buttercream frosting not the usual icky grocery store sugary kind. The chocolate cake was very good, as well. And it was all made by the next morning. He did a great job and it was only twelve bucks!

Yay, a familiar store from back home to stock up our vacation home. This one is even better and has fresh poke!

This supermarket has many things that I am looking for during my stay in Hawaii. Cashier was super friendly. Their veggies and fruit produce are organized, fresh and delicious. They also sell many Japanese snacks that I could not find in AZ. I highly recommend this supermarket for anyone who wants to grab small bites, snacks and necessary at this location.

Much better than the next door Foodland, which has higher prices and lower quality. All the conveniences of mainland supermarkets here at this safeway, good selection, big store.

We stayed at a resort with kitchen so we needed basic grocery and tried this grocery store… Damn expensive! Has everything, if you have vons account it counts here. But it is very expensive!!! $ 11 dlls for a bag of grapes??? Ouch, bought them but it hurt my wallet, we later found another grocery store with the same amount of grapes for $ 6 dlls.(Won’t mention other store for this establishments respect) But look for other prices, didn’t go back!

For you Californians Safeway=Vons so make sure and enter your phone number for your card discounts! A great tip by an employee, a former San Diegan. I compared the 2 stores(Fooodland and Safeway) Safeway prices are better on what is important to me. Soda, dairy, DELI. The chicken tenders are a must! Go early they sell out but you can still buy them ‘fresh’ in the deli cooler. Great in the microwave at midnight. Puff puff pass. We got a 20 pack of soda for the price of a 12pk. Honey roasted macadamias are a must. Great on the go deals for Gatorade and trail mix too. Monsters and Beer are priced decent as well. Safeway over Foodland for the exit light too. The employees are awesome to all shoppers not just ‘locals’.

Good store, friendly helpful service; a woman actually came up to me and asked if I needed help finding anything! Not use to this. Great bakery. Big selection of wines and alcohol in general. Get the discount card, it’s free.

Go to Foodland! My wife asked why there were no plastic bags. The checker accosted her with a lecture at the top of his lungs about keeping Hawaii beautiful. Almost everyone in the story was cringing at his speech. Funny thing is — at home we always bring our own grocery sacks and despise the plastic ‘prayer flags’ that pop up along our highways. We shopped at Foodland the next time and was very happy with more of a local atmosphere — go there instead. Life is too short to deal with a militant checker over a loaf of bread.

Are all Safeway stores genetic clones of each other? The layout here looks pretty much identical to the Safeway back at home. Even the self-checkout machine gave me trouble like it does back at home. Consistent shopping experience indeed! For Kaua’i prices, we found prices at this Safeway to be more or less reasonable. But prices at the nearby Cost-U-Less were a bit lower overall. Shh, don’t tell everybody. Let the crowds keep shopping at Safeway and Costco. ;)

Store is clean tidy, and had everything we needed(like SPF100 sunscreen and aloe for the terrible burn I got in Waikiki). Although it killed me to pay $ 4 a jar for spaghetti sauce I pay $ 1.50 a jar for in my own Safeway, I get that it’s the price you pay to get everything shipped to an island($ 10 bucks for a spaghetti dinner is still cheaper than $ 40 a person at half the island restaurants!). We bought enough food for breakfasts, a few lunches, and dinners for half of our stay(we’ll dine out the other nights). Super convenient location, very friendly staff.

Nice clean store and had everything we were looking for. Just wish we had seen how close this was to our resort… we would have skipped the Foodland experience :-)

Safeway is the place to get groceries in Kapaa! Not only is everything a lot more reasonably priced, their poke is actually pretty decent. My wife and I ended up eating a few meals here — we just bought some poke(I tried the regular ahi poke and kimchee tako poke — both were tasty) from the seafood section, bought some rice by the pound, and got a bag of dried seaweed. A good way to eat good food for a good price. :) It’s big, clean, and feels like a… well, Safeway. And they had some pretty good sales while we were there too. Saved us a good bit of money on food.

this is the only safeway on the entire island of kauai(for now). they underwent a renovation a couple years back, and the store is very clean and well organized. whenever i come to safeway, i can always find what i’m looking for at a decent(island) price. also, the customer service is great. all the employees are helpful and every time i’m in here, at least one associate asks if i need help finding anything. the checkout lines can get a little long, especially during the late afternoon, but, they have a self-check out, which alleviates some of the wait.

$ 4 and $ 5 bottles of decent wine can be found here, on sale from $ 9+ retail. Everything else is 40%+ more expensive than the Mainland, but that is to be expected. Keep your eye out for the 30−50% off Manager’s Specials stickers on anything with an expiration date. We got ribeyes and Greek yogurt on the cheap this way. Aloha Unilocalers!
