Great experience! Came back after closing to meet us and we got a wonderful package for a starter ukulele and case! Thank you!

What a great experience! Staff was so helpful, kind, and caring. Made us feel like we were ohana. Answered all my questions and even taught me a lot about the instrument and culture. I was highly appreciative that the young man associate even taught me my first song. You need to come here and get your uke’ from ‘em!

We were walking in Kapaa… stumbled into the shop and was greeted by Sam. He answered all our questions, played a little ditty on all the uke’s in the speaker… was super helpful. Got hooked up and got started playing that day! I LOVEIT! See Sam at da shop!

I happened upon Kamoa within my first 20 minutes of landing in Kauai. What a heartfelt, happy vibe I had from the moment I walked in. I really set the mood for my entire trip early this January. Sammy was helpful and super friendly and even gave me a slight discount on my purchase. Initially it wouldn’t stay in tune, but I brought it back and they tightened the tuners. I’ve had no problems since. I’ve played my uke nearly every day since the purchase with the calluces to show for it. Thanks for the fun instrument!

Every time I’ve traveled somewhere warm and tropical, I’ve been enticed repeatedly to buy a ukulele and bring some of that tropical warmth back home to the grey cold streets of the city. But inevitably, what I most often find are ornamental pieces that both sound terrible and are way overpriced. Kamoa is probably one of the very very few exceptions. To start, Gigi was amazing. During my first visit, she stayed past closing to answer questions and spread her infectious enthusiasm with the slowly growing crowd of tourists who would stumble in as the other stores started to close. The next day, I came back a bit earlier when the store was empty, and Gigi paid me the exact same attention and care as I saw her pay each and every potential customer the night before. She walked me through almost every single option in the entire store, and even nuances between different instruments of the same type. This is the kind of person you want fronting your store! I think many people can be knowledgeable about their instruments, but few can impart that same knowledge to their customers in a way that makes them feel equally excited and better equipped to make an informed decision. Gigi had that ability, which further boosted my confidence in making my purchase at Kamoa. At the end of the day, I felt most reassured by the fact that this was a store that was selling ukuleles for the sake of selling a quality instrument for making music, rather than selling a decorative memento that would sit on a mantle and serve as a talking point for what you did last summer. I’m glad I waited, and I’m very happy with my purchase!

We stopped to check out some ukeleles while in town. This was the third music shop that we tried out. We were helped out by the mother of the owner of Kamoa. She was super knowledgeable about the ukeleles and once we decided on the model that we wanted, we tried four of them and picked the one we liked best. She then changed the 4th string to one that is an octave lower than usual. That gave the instrument a nice rich sound. Months later we are super happy with our uke and will stop in next time we are on the garden island.

I would just like to begin by saying that my unplanned stop into this place was so enjoyable that it got me interested in actually playing music more so than I have ever been before. The owner was incredibly charismatic and seemed genuinely concerned with our understanding of the intsrument and the music itself; which was refreshing in such a tourist oriented town so preoccupied with selling souvenir trinkets. After a short time of browsing and exhibiting a little more interest than a routine looky-loo, the owner picked up a beautifully crafted ukelele and began to expertly play. If you’re looking for a quality ukelele and a brief but helpful music lesson, this is the place for you. Paradise within paradise; music paradise that is.

I stumbled upon Kamoa Ukelele Company while visiting Kapaa recently. I’m a guitar player who at that point in time had never touched a ukelele. I now own two Kamoa ukeleles(one actually belongs to my 2yr old… we’re starting a band) and love them. The quality of these instruments is very good, even on the base model. I splurged on a 500 Concert Series for myself. I’m addicted to this thing.

Last Feb. We purchased two ukes from the Kamoa store in Koloa. GIGI the owner’s mom was the salesperson. She was a hoot, no high pressure, had us sitting down playing some notes in a few minutes. We left there happy and they shipped the ukes home to us. Eight months later, my concert uke developed a small crack along the grain on the back of the uke. I contacted Sam, the owner and he arranged to send me a new uke for basically shipping. then I got to keep the old uke which is easy to repair. I may give it to my son as he has been in music for 25 years. This is the kind of customer service I love. You call expecting a hassle and get just the opposite. Thank You Sam and GiGi

Just purchased my first uke from sam this morning. The whole process were awesome. I live in LA, so there were 3 hours time difference. Sam took my call at 7am local time with great upbeat and knowledgeable answers. The uke shipped out within the same day with tracking number and everything. Great great customer service. I’ve also ordered a custom electric uke from him. And he is going to build it from ground up with my own custom color and specs, hope to deliver before Christmas. Truthfully. Kamoa is a great uke company that build quality instruments to meets all needs with great price tag. I will recommend this company to anyone from beginner to pros.

I had a great experience buying my first ukulele here. The owner’s dad was helpful, hilariously sarcastic(Island variety) and not a pushy salesman. I told him exactly what I could afford, my musical background and why I wanted to learn ukulele. He spent a lot of time showing me some basics and demonstrating different models.

Stormy is something of a fan of ukeleles. So, it’s no surprise that when we visit the islands were going to hit every ukulele shop that we can find. While we were in Kauai, all we heard about was Kamoa this and Kamoa that. So we just had to go out of our way to go into the Kamoa factory store. If for no other reason we had to see what they had to say for themselves. Frankly, they didn’t have much to say about themselves. The guy that was there was pretty arrogant. What he did was trash talk other ukulele brands and vendors around the island. In about 3 min. he was able to put down a couple of vendors and Stormy for having anything to do with anyone other than Kamoa. Putting other people down is no way to run a business. They may have been the best ukuleles on the market but we will never buy one.

Went here a couple years ago, just meaning to look. I’ve been playing a few years, and really had my heart set on a Kamaka. Ended up finding a Kamoa that stole my heart, and I haven’t looked back since. Pretty much I stop by anytime I’m on Kaua’i and do my best not to empty my wallet(luckily they didn’t have what I was looking for this last trip…). Even to a chump like me, the folks at both shops were happy to talk story and give me lotsa info. Best shop on the island if you want a real instrument, and not some plastic toy uke.

Larry’s Music has a smaller store in Koloa, and a larger store in Kapaa. The Koloa store has several reviews which I read. After having read all of them, it seems safe to conclude that Larry’s Music has really good days and really bad days. Today, it must have been a really bad day at the Kapaa store. The store hours on the window stated they closed at 4pm. I arrived at 355pm to a locked door with the heavy set grey haired gentleman behind the counter helping a couple. They left the store without a ukulele, and he locked the door again before I could go in. He went behind the counter and proceeded to attend to his books. He looked up at me and just went back to his books. Not a hint of a smile, no courtesy at all. Other people tried to open the locked door as well. He gave them the same unfriendly glance and went back to his books. Business must be really good, for now.
