While gassing up on way to return a rental, I noticed the lunch crowd in line at this eatery next to the filling station, so my curiosity was piqued. Thursday is all you can eat pizza day so I tried 3 different types and liked them all. Sauce not too sweet, foldable crust was on thin side and not doughy, toppings great and service was friendly! Great value

Holy moly surprise near the airport! I flew in to KCI after a fast layover and not enough time to grab a cheap subpar slice at the last airport. So when I landed here back home I was hungry, and hungry for a slice. Not some Pizza Hut crap or even the chain-style Papa Johns. I knew there was a Minskys near the airport but I’ve never been there and was more wanting the Sbarro NY-style pizza. So I googled and found U-Genes. Order before I left the parking garage and 12 minutes later my hot pie was boxed up and ready to go. Holy surprises… This tops any bland airport pizza I could have found anywhere. It’s the best NY-Style slice I’ve had in KC. Ever. I opened up the box and it was hot, fresh from the oven and the grease was, well, to be expected from a ½ cheese ½ pepperoni pizza. Omg the cheese just chews and chews. It’s epic. The crust tasted fresh, never frozen. And the sauce, I’m not a culinary expert, but I’d bet money it’s homemade and not canned or prepackaged. Whoever put together this menu obviously knows what it means to invest in your product. It was cheap 9.99 but they put all of that in their pie and not the bricks and mortar. Yes, it is attached to a gas station and looked shady when I drove up, but damn… It’s one of those hole in the walls that you pray not too many people know about to ruin it, but that enough people frequent to keep it open… I know I’ll be back probably every time I make a trip to the airport!

Best NY style pizza place in KC I’ve had. Pretty decent prices. This location is at a gas station attached to a convince store.

I wasn’t impressed. Place was nasty just dirty and run down. Pizza was kinda doughy and had a flavorless crust. Toppings were OK. Pepperoni thin hamburger was huge chunks. Cheese tasted off and rancid. I ate one piece and felt nauseous. Macaroni salad was decent. I would never return.

Nothing to really knock on this place about. Ordered a pepperoni pizza and a meatball sub to share. Meatball sub was awesome. I will crave the bread they used, chewy but not too chewy with flavor. Meatballs and sauce didn’t taste like bag meatballs or jarred sauce. Homemade? Lastly, those people saying the pepperoni pizza was too greasy are probably the ones that lift the cheese and pat the pizza dry before eating. Maybe make your own at home with a cauliflower crust. NY style pizza that had a lot of flavor. Just moved into area so I’ll be going back– a lot.

Friken delicious sub! I was skeptical at first but a few of the locals recommended it so I took the chance and I am so glad that I went. The place was connected to the gas station but was nice inside and smelt amazing in there.

Went on a Thursday for the all you can eat Pizza. Their website says its for 6.99 but sign in the store says 7.99. They need to update their website. Pizza was pretty good in general. New York style(Fold it over) Pizza, with tasty toppings and well per portioned cheese/topping/sauce ratios. I did get a slice of the Pepperoni Pizza, and that is the only one where I can understand all the reviewers talking about a puddle of grease. If you don’t like greasy pizza, I would avoid the pepperoni here. Outside of that, everything was good. Staff is a bit slow, and the eating area is very small. But the food is delish.

The looks of the place might scare some people off, but if you try it you will probably love it. The pizza can be a bit greasy but I thought even the stuff sold by the slice was delicious, even though it was probably sitting there for awhile in the warmer. But for quick delicious pizza by the slice that you can pick up while you gas up, it’s excellent! Btw they do need a new television for the customers, the old one is practically unwatchable.

I found this place after vowing to never go to the gas station on Paris Street anymore because I was tired of their rudeness. I’m so glad I found this place, their friendliness is 110%! They have plenty of healthy options to grab and go on the road or you can stretch out in the café. Then one day I actually had time to order a calzone. I was very excited. And hungry. They let you pick three toppings, I chose chicken, pineapple, and jalapenos. Sounds good right? When it came out of the oven it was glorious they wrapped it up and i took it home. So I take my first bite and its a mouth full of jalapenos and red sauce. I take another bite. A lot of jalapenos. Hmmm must of hit the flavor pocket so I open it up, nothing but japs and red sauce. Like really, fists fulls of jalapenos.(See pic) Was this a joke? It wasnt funny. I mean, I like spicy but that was just unecessary. I ordered three ingredients. I guess the cook doesnt like making calzones.

I hadn’t tried U-Gene’s pizza until about a month ago. I had read a good review and decided to try it. New York style pizza is my favorite and there aren’t many options for that in KC, especially in the northland, so I was hoping it would be my new favorite. I grabbed a large sausage after work and brought it home and my husband and I both loved it! We have since had a cheese and it is very much like the pizza you get in NYC. The only difference is that the U-Gene’s crust isn’t quite as crispy on the bottom, but the slices are foldable and the sauce has good flavor. I highly recommend U-Gene’s if you are into NY style pizza.

You have to be kidding! I was starving yesterday. Didn’t eat all day and about to get on a flight with no food. Getting gas for the rental and there’s this little hole in the wall looking place renting a small space from the gas station. What the heck it beats starving I thought. Inside is clean but still very much a hole in the wall. I walk up to the counter and the guy behind the counter tries to walk me through the process. Choose as many meats as you want he tells me, its all done by weight. Wait, so does Subway or Quiznos, BUT not like that here, when he says weight, he mean weight. they put so much meat on the sandwich it weighs a ton! Then the veggies, you name it, top it off with their special dressing, and before you know it I am fighting with two hands to eat what turns out to be one of the best sandwiches I have eaten in years! Dot let this place fool you. Maybe its not a place to take your first date, but its definitely the place to take your hunger!

I ran in and got two slices to go. It’s not good pizza. Very greasy and gooey. Just not good eats. It’s not the worst I’ve ever had, but I sure wouldn’t go out of my way to get it.

I tire of the chain store pizza. Best to find a local place that comes the closest to NYC style pizza like Ray’s. In the Kansas City(KCI) area U Gene’s is the best & has the most authentic NY pie. Transplanted from the east coast and noticing there where no «authentic Eastern US pizza places», these folks opened one on one side of a gas /convenience store. Don’t let location throw ya. It’s great pizza & my new fav in KC.

U-Gene’s is a popular«Go-To» lunch spot for my coworkers and me because of how close it is to where we work. It’s also attached to a gas station making it very busy during lunch time. We most frequent U-Gene’s on Thursdays to partake in their all-you-can-eat pizza that lasts until 2pm, I believe. For around $ 7 it makes for a filling and affordable lunch. The slices are very big, have delicious crust, and are dripping with grease. My husband will generally top his pizza slices with a quarter of a jar of parmesan cheese just to soak it up. Hey, I’m not complaining. The one thing that sets U-gene’s all-you-can-eat pizza apart from your generic pizza buffet is that the slices are always hot and fresh. I prefer my cold pizza for breakfast, thank you very much. Besides pizza, U-Gene’s also has a few salads, hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, and sides to accompany them.

1.47 miles from the Kansas city airport; inside a gas station; in the middle of an industrial park the lone food choice other than microwave popcorn, mac and cheese, dry crackers or Hormel chili from my hotel lobby store… I found U-Gene’s and a wicked good messy saucy fold-over pizza;(although they call it a calzone on the menu which it isn’t a traditional calzone with ricotta and sauce on the side) having said that… my «calzone» was FAB!!! I added a few veggies to the basic and chowed down… enough for two to share or for one at dinner and breakfast the next morning…

Stopped in after a trip to the Harley Factory a few blocks away. The place was crazy busy(it was all you can eat Thursday) and rather chaotic. The seating options were pretty sad and uncomfortable and overall, it kinda felt dirty. I was starving, so I decided to not say much and go along. The 4 of us ordered a supreme and split it amongst us. It was unimpressive at best — the thin crust was soggy and floppy and it tasted like a store-bought frozen pizza. And, the ice machine apparently made ice cubes big enough to lodge in the machine and get stuck — I watched SIX different people stick their hand up in it to fix it and get the ice chunk cleared. That’s five customers who just paid for their order and didn’t go wash their hands, and the one cashier taking their orders — who was handling the tender. GROSS. How many times did that happen before I got my drink??? Ugh. Can’t say I’ll visit again.

First off… yes it is attached to a gas station, but there are few places that deliver in the area, and if you’re in a crunch, this is the place to go; secondly I work within walking distance of the gas station and stop here at 6am on occasion for juice and fruit, or for lunch, and find it completely safe and sound. I’ve never once seen anything or anyone similar to being dangerous or homeless. Plus the staff has always been pleasant and helpful, the customers, «white» or «blue collar», are friendly and polite, holding the door open for me, with a nod and smile, or «hello» in accompaniment. Moving on to the pizza! If you’re looking for gourmet pizza, this most likely is not the location for it, but if you’re working hard and it’s lunch time, or if you’re stopping through on your way to the airport and want something delicious to fill you up, you have found the spot for it, without the high dollar price. I have to say that I love the thinner New York style pizza over the thicker crust, lucky me, and if you are there when the pizza is coming right out of the oven… you’ll want to be first in line. Large slices, the crust isn’t chewy nor is it cracker-like, but that great medium. The sauce was not flooding the pizza or overpowering, the ingredients were adequate but good, not greasy, thank goodness, and over all, pretty darn tasty. The pizza is flavorful and comforting all within the same bite. Also if you’re wanting more than pizza, they have salads, burgers, sandwiches/subs, all of which I’ve had, minus the burgers, and there is always some type of deal to be had. Personally I’m not a huge fan of chains restaurants, and I love to support local, individual, quirky, well deserving businesses, and I have definitely put this one on my list for the Northland, and I hope to find more.

It’s late at night and I have a 6:40 am flight out of Kansas City. I don’t want any of the fru fru crap that the Hilton I am staying at is offering for room service. I certainly don’t want to walk over to the local gas station for some of their so called sandwiches, that stuff would start prison riots. But looking out my room at a Conoco across the street, there is a sign with a surly looking mug on it… U Genes Deli & Pizza. It is actually a part of the gas station. Curiousity drove me to check it out. All the danger signs where there, hispanic guy in corner doing his«cooking school» homework, teenage kids in the kitchen, impeller oven, homeless guy out in front sorting through the trash. I toughed it out and ordered a sausage and mushroom pizza, to go. When I took the thing back to the room, I was rewarded with a very good pizza. Mushrooms were canned but OK, sausage was good, there was plenty of cheese and the sauce was decent. What gave the pizza an extra star was that this pie was very reminiscent of some pizza’s I had in college. I guess there was a comfort food element to it. Don’t let the location of this place scare you off, they do put out a pretty decent pizza. Generally New York Style in 12 or 16 inch sizes. Everything is less than 20 bucks each… My 12 inch Sausage and Mushroom was 11 bucks.
