Tootsies

It’s no longer a lesbian bar so I was surprised to find it to be a Latin bar or music playing. The cover was $ 5 and the drinks were more than $ 7 the people were nice but I miss the old atmosphere :/(

Once upon a time I was enchanted by the thought of this bar. What could be better than a big gay bar Mecca in Kansas City? Clearly I was mistaken…
I’ve been in this bar once. I’ve attempted to go back twice. There will be no further attempts. This bar isn’t really a gay bar anymore. Don’t let the rainbow light fixtures outside fool you. This place is a disgusting meat market with a cover charge.
I first went here in April. It was so-​so, filled with a mix of people. The music was danceable. The drink prices were average. Since this time I don’t think I’ve seen one gay person. That normally wouldn’t be an issue for me if the bar was actually a fun place to hang. Unfortunately, this is not the case at Tootsies.
All you will find here now is a couple of random gay people standing outside, bewildered at the ruins of what was once a purportedly fantastic homo hangout. The music has become less than desirable, as have many of the patrons. In addition, I’m sure as heck not paying a $ 5 cover to enter a bar whose only inhabitants are the bartender and five guys who think seeing two girls kiss is amazing.

After reading the other reviews, I decided to write about my own experience at this controvercial club.
It’s not my normal hangout, and I went there for a birthday party with my Mom of all people (trust me, my mom is the coolest person to get drunk with) for a friend who is a lesbian.
Although there is a cover there, it wasn’t much, about 5 bucks on a Saturday night I think. Since their apparant remodel, it is now non-​smoking, although they have a fenced off area out front to smoke in. The drinks were a bit over-​priced in my opinion, 4 bucks for a beer is a little excessive.
I was warned when we got into the club to always go to the bathroom with someone else, because apparently a woman got raped there during business hours. I decided I’d be better off holding it. The dance floor area is small but not too shabby, and the bar area is nice. The bar staff are assholes, they act like I’m asking them to perform miracles when asking for a beer.
I didn’t see the drag show that has talked about, so I can’t talk about that, but there were some excentric people there.
It’s not my scene, but it’s not bad, but bring friends and keep your eyes open for the crazies.

I’ve been a guest to the «Toots», as I like to call it, for over a year now and I can’t be more impressed with all of the changes that it’s made. The new ownership has come in and made some great changes to a bar that was going way downhill.
The slightest of improvements can make a huge difference. Adding bathroom doors on the stalls was a great place to start, considering some girl accused a man of raping her in the bathroom. The bar isn’t fully finished but it’s a great beginning to a huge bar.

Tootsie’s is in the middle of/​finishing up a major renovation and has addressed a lot of the issues that we all have mentioned, including the bathroom situation. That said, it does not have the traffic it once did and the staff is still generally completely rude but hanging out there no longer feels like a health code violation.
Recently, the crowd is very lesbian. Very polo and jeans, t-​shirts and visors lesbian. Its still not my scene — (Check out Sidekicks Saloon on a Sunday for a far better Sunday show!) — but its not so disgusting as to warrant a truly negative rating.
I heard a rumor that it was bought by a straight man who was hoping to turn it in to a swanky sort of swingers lounge. Has anyone else heard this?

There’s not enough bleach in the world to scrub a night at Tootsies off of you.

I was dragged there once. WOW… not such a great place. There was a tranny (who appeared to be a very round lady… but with an extra part) peeing next to me and I was really confused… but I was really drunk too. All this followed by shenanigans in the parking lot… does this place help or hurt the X-​roads? Maybe it was just a particularly crazy summer night. KC needs a really big, clean, upscale gay club/​lounge. I think it might do pretty well if executed and advertised well.

tootsies USED to be a hot spot for lesbians and gays to party. i’ve seen it go downhill. its boring and they play too much techno. i’ve stopped going there when i go to kansas city

Once more, I’m writing here again. So I figured out who flagged my review.
As you can tell, this place is disgusting.
The crowd, talk about trashy trailer park folks along with the hood folks as well. Always stirring up a fight.
Forget about this place.
The flo show is so O-​V-​E-​R! Talk about same hair do, same style, for lets see how many years now? A tragic drag queen who hasn’t seen what a real drag show is about!
I’ll give it another year or so before it shuts down, though it might not since there isn’t any other gay bars left in k-​shi-​ty

I really have a good time when I go to Tootsies. Its always fun. My night is usually Sunday night. I like to see the drag show and watch all the different preformances. Flo’s show is what its called. Flo will entertain you! Oh and get this, their drinks are super cheap and very tasty! They always have drink specials. After the show, it becomes open dance floor and the party is… Hello Party! The lights are low, there are color lights everywhere, the music, oh the music. — Awesome selection! You will dance at tootsies, you will drink at tootsies, you will leave home happy from tootsies. They also have a pool table available and darts. And a lounge area if dancing is not your thing. Parking is available across the street. Just $ 5 at the door and that’s only sometimes! Ladies, guys, check tootsies out! Good times guarenteed :).

I give it two stars because it is an ok place for people of all diversities. Way too smoky inside and sometimes way to crowded. The staff is ok but this place needs a major face lift. It is getting run down.
Sometimes your feet stick to the floor. gross! Bathrooms are always run down and shower curtains with holes all over them cover the stalls. There is a weird creepy guy who is there trying to giv e massages to young women.
I would say it would be safe not to go there… there are many other places to frequent.
