Whoa! I was really surprised! I was looking for a place to have a quick bite. I’m not from this area, and I thought, well let’s try this place out. I wanted to compare this place to Taco Bell and del taco. So I got their number one combo. It included a beef taco, bean burrito, and a muchaco, which kind of reminds me of a gordita from Taco Bell. They have a salsa bar too and so I tried the original red and pico and added cilantro to it. I loooove cilantro and it made my taco taste so much better. I took a bite without adding anything, and I just want to say, I really liked the flavor of the beef they use here. It tasted like something I would make at home. The muchaco and the burrito were good. I plan to come back but will probably just order the three crispy beef taco combo. Lol. The meat also looks good comparing to Taco Bell’s orange mash. The taco meat here look like actual fresh ground beef. The place is also pretty clean with lots of parking. The music isn’t bothersome. It sounds like 70s-80s mellow music.

Just okay. In some other areas it would give this a two, but there are not as many Mexican food options in Kansas City. I tried a couple of food items, all of which were decent but pretty bland. The salsa was better than average for a Mexican fast food chain. I wouldn’t avoid this place, but wouldn’t seek it out either.

If I’m going to spend money on ‘fast food’ tacos, then it’s going to be Taco Bueno tacos. Unlike their main competitor, Taco Bueno’s meat doesn’t taste like it’s seasoned with a 39 cent taco seasoning packet. The food and the salsas are just fresher and tastier all around. I really like their hot salsas. Not very hot, but they are satisfying. Sure, I’d prefer to eat Mexican food at an actual restaurant, but if I need something quick I go here. I’ve had good luck special ordering and the service is always friendly.

As a recent late night visitor to Taco Bueno, I cannot come up with much to commend it. I am visiting Kansas City from California where Mexican food abounds. This of course, is not really Mexican food anymore than Taco Bell is. I found this food to be disappointing on several fronts. I ordered a potato burrito with beef and a crispy beef taco. My gf ordered a rice bowl with chicken, black beans and pico de gallo. The food was up quickly. That was a plus. The food was cold. The food was flavorless. The salsa was boring. Mexican food should have some intensity of flavors. Using Cheddar cheese and lots of sour cream is a fail in trying to bring those flavors out. The pico de gallo was pretty much tomatoes with a little onion. The potato burrito had maybe two chunks of deep fried potato in it. Some reviewers have mentioned that they prefer Taco Bueno to Taco Bell. OK. I thought I never would say something good about Taco Bell, but their food does have more flavor. That doesn’t mean it is good, it just has more flavor. As I mentioned before, neither one deserves to be called Mexican food.

I tried this place today for the first time as I am new to the area and have never heard of this place. The results were simple: This place is gross. If I am going to get some fast food Mexican, i’ll get some Taco Bell, it is much better, and that is saying a lot since Taco bell is not at all good. The meat tastes like poor quality ground beef mixed with salt, and lots of it. The tortillas are not soft at all, rather like cardboard. Everything tastest the same… like salt. Just salt. Their enchilada thing they call a «chilada» is just their crappy beef wrapped in their crappy cardboard tortilla with a little bit of red colored salt sauce on top. Everything is dry, salty, and just plain no good. The best thing was the crunchy taco, I think it was better because it was supposed to be hard, the soft tortillas are not supposed to be hard, but they are.

I love me some Taco Bueno! The people at this location are super nice and friendly. The food is much better than Taco Bell. My favorite is the bowl with chicken, cilantro rice, and black beans, yum! My kids love their Mexi Dips and Chips. It’s great for kids because you get queso, beans, and guacamole with a bunch of chips. Remember when Taco Bell had cinnamon sugar coated tortilla chips? Well, Taco Bueno has them and they are bad-for-you-awesome. This locations’ smoothie machine has been«broken» for so long I now think it must have skipped town. Why have it still on the menu?! It’s my one frustration because my kids know they can get smoothies with the kids meals and they expect one. It needs fixed ASAP! One last thing, the kids meal«toys» are the best of any fast food place I’ve ever been. They have given out ½ size Little Golden Books and now Word Girl audio books! No cheap-y plastic crap here. I love that!

I actually had never heard of Taco Bueno when they started building them all over Kansas City. I didn’t expect too much. I went to one about a year ago and it wasn’t that good. Not that it was terrible. but I just felt like Taco Bell was cheaper and better. BUTTHEN — -! I was at Best Buy there on Barry Rd., and there arent many options around there for fast food. so I bit the bullet and went to Bueno to give it one more chance. The menu looked good this time. and I ordered some kind of nacho salad. and I got to the window and wouldn’t ya know it, I had forgotten my debit card! I was so annoyed I almost drove away. but I didn’t wanna be a tool. So I drove up and told the guy at the window what happened. and he gave me my food for free. I was pretty amazed. I ate the food, and it was alright. It didn’t blow me away. but the fact that they gave me my food, on them, shows me that they are friendly. I went back to Bueno several times since, and I have to say that it is some of the best service I’ve ever had. I’m VERY impressed. Wendy’s should take a lesson from them ;) All in all, I would give 5 stars if their food was a little better. but I think 4 stars is a good thing.

Better than Taco Bell, platters are a good value for the amount of food they come with. I also love that they have kid meals for .99 on Wednesdays. I also love their cheesecake chimichangas, best fast food dessert out there.

The thing that really sets them apart is the free condiment bar w/salsa’s and jalapenos and onions. If they had sour cream & cheese on the bar it’d be the bomb. Portions seem skimpy but hey, for the price I guess you get what you pay for. They send coupons that are useful…

Is it a compliment to say that Taco Bueno is far and away above Taco Bell? I guess that puts the bar pretty low… but it is better. I personally spoke with the manager of this place and learned a lot. There are absolutely no mixes used. No powdered sauces. All condiment sauces are made daily. I think this place is a pretty good value considering it is a fast food place in the midwest. I favor the Chicken and Potato Burrito and also enjoy the steak slices over cilantro rice and black beans. The tamales were below average. I have always received excellent service. The menu is big so I advise going inside for carry-out, unless you are sure of exactly what you want. It is what it is… fast food. However, it is clean and well run.
