This is the first time I have been to Nick and Jake’s, ordered a Crown/7up very stingy on the Crown Royal it was just enough to give the 7up some color. Salads are a nice size, I got the Wing appetizers and Mac & Cheese/Lobster…which was OK. My party of about 18 people had 1 server and he did a fabulous job thumbs up/5 stars to him. As we where leaving the customers waiting to be seated standing at the door where blocking the entrance, when you say excuse me they look at you like you stole something… I know its not the restaurants fault but that experience left a bad vibe on me… so I probably won’t be back unless a friend has another gathering there.

I’ve visited Nick & Jake’s in Parkville & Overland Park for dinner. Both excellent. This was our first time visiting this location. We made reservations for brunch on Valentine’s Day knowing full well it would be busy. We arrived early(to make sure we could find parking). The male host was very, very frazzled by the large # of people. After waiting for 25 minutes, we were offered to sit at a roundtable with another family who had children. We politely declined(no offense to families, we just preferred to eat amongst adults). We were then told we could sit at the community table with another group of 6 or so people. The host walked away. I followed him stating I wasn’t sure where he wanted us to sit. He mumbled that he was trying to figure something out. We asked about sitting at one of the 5+ open tables we saw & the host told us those were«reserved.» This is the part that frustrated us the most. what made these reservations different from ours? The host didn’t bother to explain. I asked if we were going to be able to sit at our own table & the host said ‘No. It’s a busy day.’ It was at that point he seemed tired of helping us, so we retreated to sitting at the bar. As for the meal itself(buffet), ehh. nothing special. Out of a lot of food, so-so quality. I would not pay $ 50 to eat there again. The couple next to us at the bar agreed. If you want to try a stellar buffet, check out Harvey’s at Union Station. Even on holidays, you’ll be seated(at your own table) within 5 minutes of your reservation time. Plenty of staff. Excellent selection of food. Again, we completely understand holidays are busy. But the manner in which reservations & seating was handled was terrible. Since this location seems to be limited on space, perhaps the restaurant might consider opening the upstairs room for special holidays? We saw one group up there & several empty tables. I’m sorry to say we will not return for brunch.

We met some friends here for dinner and were pleased that they have a corkage fee of $ 15, so we were able to bring a nice bottle of wine to enjoy with our meal. Two of us tried the scallops special and were a little disappointed that the scallops were charred instead of nicely seared. Hubby had the salmon and a friend had the sea bass special. Apparently, the sea bass was very good. I’d say our food was good, but in hindsight it probably would have made more sense to get their sandwiches which are more standard bar food and not the seafood. The wait staff did a nice job and the restaurant was filled with a variety of people who all seemed to be enjoying themselves. I would certainly try them again and just choose differently from the menu.

Visiting Nick & Jake’s was the official end to my 21 Day Sugar Detox… that lasted 5 days. I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars… Buuuut 3 it is. So, my boyfriend and I walked in… we were greeted after we waited and looked a little lost for awhile. We were seated and it took an awkwardly long time for our server to come over. This was a Friday night and it wasn’t too busy, the tables seemed to be about half full. Our waiter finally came and we placed our drink order and got the Irish Nachos as an appetizer. Took a long time for us to get our drinks and even longer for the app. Perhaps they were understaffed. Irish Nachos came out after a little game of waiting. They were great!!! This was hands down, my favorite part of the meal. We ate every bite — order these! Say together: Iriiish Nachossss! Our mains took naturally took forever to come out. Our new neighboring table friends seemed to be having the same issue. I ordered the Short Rib Sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the OMG Burger. The OMG had pulled pork and bacon on it so naturally my meathead boyfriend chose that, he seemed to enjoy it… ate everyyyy bite. My Short Rib Sammy fell flat. The Short Rib itself tasted a little overcooked. This was the MESSIEST sandwich I’ve ever eaten, I wasn’t a fan since I was having a sit down dinner. At a fair or food truck type of event, it would’ve been more appreciated. Just had too many sauces and too many cherry peppers. Totally not worth it, but the sandwich has arugula on it so they get a couple cool points for a fancy attempt. Overall, I probably won’t be back on my own accord. I would probably be able to find similar food at a chain restaurant. It’s possible that I would meet work friends here for drinks… solely because it’s down the street from my job. Thanks but no thanks!

Props to Nick and Jake’s for finding success in a cool building off the South Plaza. It’s been a revolving door and it’s nice to see the continuity. I like the vibe inside with an open layout, exposed brick, and more TVs than your eyes can possibly take in. It’s part sports bar, part local-Applebee’s neighborhood hangout. I’ve eaten here a few times and have never been particularly blown away by the food. I had a Cuban sandwich and fries in their early days of opening that was simply terrible. The last time in I tried an absurdly large Fried Chicken Salad that was pretty good, except that the majority of it was made up of white-ish iceberg lettuce. Not what I’d expect for a $ 12 salad. Total side note on the salad, but I love when a restaurant that has buttermilk ranch offered and it’s that kind of homemade, runny style ranch that you find at down home places. I don’t like when ranch is super goopy and thick, like a spread. This one was practically peanut butter consistency the other night. The staff is friendly here, and helpful — my friend won a race and had a long expired $ 25 gift card there. It would’ve been pretty easy for them to say ‘tough luck’ but they were quick to say they would still honor it. I feel like that goes a long way. He’s also vegetarian and she was able to point out things he wouldn’t want to order, but he also got stuck ordering just sides and a gigantic dessert because it’s definitely a carnivorous kind of place. All in all, a kind of place I’d meet up for a beer and I love that I can walk there from my neighborhood. But let’s be honest here, I’m all about the food and I can’t find anything on the menu for the prices that makes me think I’m be dining again here anytime soon.

We stopped by Nick and Jake’s for a quick supper after work tonight. I wasn’t overly hungry, so I just ordered two small plates, the bruschetta and the tenderloin sliders. I felt that both menu items were overpriced for small plates since most of the items on the small plate menu were prices equal to or higher than some of the entrees, but I was having a «I’m not hungry for anything in particular» kind of evening, so I figured giving myself some options was the best way to go. I received five bruschetta and four tenderloin sliders. The bruschetta were not toasted and the bread was damp and and mushy from the balsamic and fell apart anytime I tried to pick it up. The tenderloin sliders on the other hand, were pretty fantastic. The meat was cooked medium well and the sliders were nice sized with large pieces of meat on them. They were garnished with horseradish aioli, arugula and caramelized onions. The taste was great and the sliders were very filling. The restaurant had a cool vibe and a nice, laid-back atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I would definitely give this place another shot sometime in the future.

I give them a solid 4-stars but only because I wasn’t expecting it to be quite this noisy but that’s ok sometimes. It seems to have the identity of an upscale sports bar. The service can be a little spotty but only because they’re so busy. That’s understandable. The food, however, is incredible. I had the tenderloin sliders, which may be the best I’ve ever had. My husband had the meatloaf and while he was smart and said it wasn’t as good as mine, LOL, he did finish his plate. All in all, it’s a great casual place for dining and sports but not conversation. Again, not bad, just know what to expect.

I ordered the fish and chips and it was really good. It was very crispy so they likely used a Panko breaded. Fries were clean and crisp. Some fries are greasy and mushy but these were not. I had a raspberry ice tea that was absolutely terrific. It was my first time there, but I am certain to return.

One of my favorite places to go for drinks, food and of course BRUNCH! The crew that takes care of my friends and I are always fantastic and have a great time with us. Larry, Kitty, Cassie, Sarah and even Justin(even though he has moved to parkville) are some of my favorites to go and see. It’s the kind of bar/restaurants you can go to by yourself and leave with a bunch of new friends.

A much hipper and trendier vibe and restaurant location than the homely location of the northland or OP. Food still the same at other locations for me… sometimes really fantastic, and sometimes… just meh. Don’t know why that is but it usually happens! The parking stinks here. Like big time stinks. Good luck with parking. That being said, this N & J’s is a fun addition to the south plaza dining scene without having to fight plaza crowds.

Ok. I’ve eaten there twice. First was a 2 start. Burger seemed pre formed, frozen patty. Yuck. Second time was a salad. Big salad and very good. Grilled chicken which was seasoned nicely. So it is OK. Not great… But not awful. Just ok.

We Got there right on time for out 12:30 reservation, which we made days in advance, and they had no reservation. The hostess didn’t apologize, she just said whoever took it didn’t write it down. I asked how long it would be and she said the wait is an hour! When asked if we would at least be moved to the front of the line since they lost our reservation she said, no, you have to wait like everybody else. I understand mistakes happen, a simple apology would have been nice. Instead I told her we would take our business elsewhere and will not be going back.

Great bartender & amazing service! Happy hour appetizer menu was perfect to munch on. Like this location and its staff a hundred times better than the OP location I’ve frequented for years. Check it out and sit at the bar to watch a game!

We had the most wonderful dinner last night at Nick & Jake’s on Main. Our server was Kitty who remembered my wife’s favorite drink from a month ago! The first course was the Irish potato skins(best in KC). We tried the pork chop special our friends had the filet Oscar. Both were to die for. We finished off with a giant piece of carrot cake for the four of us. Delightful evening, great service, fantastic food! I hear they have a great brunch too, LOL!

Fun to get a couple drinks at. Always enjoyable on Sunday’s when they have there all you can eat brunch buffet. Lots of selection. Cooler spot than the out south version.

If you’re able to, come in for happy hour. The half-price small plates and appetizers offer a very impressive range of selections so it really doesn’t matter what you, a guest, or client is hungry for. Amber was our waitress. Impressive to say the least. I’ll request her when I return.

I’ve came here a few times with a colleague and I must say I’m hooked! The ambiance, service, and the food! I must say I have yet to try something here and it wasn’t good. They’re the best place to go to for happy hours and the serving size is huge! And don’t get me started on the frozen peach bellinni’s! Perfection!

Awesome neighborhood bar and restaurant. The service is outstanding, the food is phenomenal, and the staff is the best you can find. They always remember your name, they always want to make sure you are happy, and they always make you feel welcome.

I love the location and I’ve only had meals here 3 times. The serving staff are all friendly. The food… hmmmm…nothing to write home about. It is definitely edible but I imagine the food as mostly pre-packaged, frozen and cooked when ordered. I ordered the grilled cheese one time and it was a cheese sandwich on toasted bread. Not a constructed sandwich grilled. Not my idea of a grilled cheese. Not sure how hard it is to get some good bread and cheese and butter the griddle for a true grilled cheese. Wish they’d ‘up’ their game on the food. Simplify the menu, hire a chef and do some dishes originally. Just a thought.

I recently indulged in Sunday brunch at Nick and Jake’s and was pleased with the experience. A group of about 7 of us dined here including a baby and a toddler. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant was very family friendly, the hostess and server asked if we needed highchairs or any assistance, and there were many families dining throughout the restaurant. On Sunday, they only serve the brunch buffet, to my knowledge. The buffet showcases traditional breakfast options such as grits, fruit, waffles, ham, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and there is also an omelet station, made to order waffles, and a carving station. Non breakfast items included mac and cheese, several salads, peel and eat shrimp, meatloaf, and chicken fingers. The dessert bar contained cookies, bread pudding and very, very delicious cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. Our service was prompt, plates were cleared right away and our drinks were always replenished. The brunch buffet runs around $ 20, and if you’re a fan of brunch buffets, I’m sure you would not be let down by Nick and Jake’s.
