Lutfi’s Fried Fish

FRIED. FRIED. FRIED… Fish, Chicken, Shrimp, Fries, Okra — it’s a drunk paradise. It’s even better sober. All on top of Texas toast. You can call ahead. You can have corn on the cob. It is yummy!

I know one of my pet peeves when getting fried fish out is that it is usually fried to dried out husk state and you pay $ 10 for a couple of dried out fillets and a hush puppy. That is not the case at the BP station on Independence Ave near KC University of Nursing and Biosciences. Lutfi’s Fried Fish has an outpost here.
Now Lutfi’s is fried fish from down in the deep south. You have a choice of Catfish, Whiting, and sometimes Cod or Perch (usually they don’t stock the Cod or Perch to heavey as the Whiting and Catfish are the stars here). You can get the fish a la carte or in a meal. The meal includes two sides of your choice (greens, green beans, hush puppies, or potato salad). Now the sides do change from time to time, but I reccomend the hush puppies. Their fish is fried in cornmeal and you get a generous portion. I usually get the 1 pound meal and I swear there is more than a pound of fish, but is is golden brown and crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. Just as good fish should be.
A few things to know so you understand why I give 3 stars to a place with such good food.
1) They are closed on Sundays (at least at this one).
2) They are in a gas station and have no in house seating.
3) Parking is VERY sparse as there are only two slots on the side of the building.
4) The neighborhood. Though not terribly bad, crime is starting to shift that way so I would not reccomend an after dark visit unless you are local to the area.
Now don’t let all that scare you because the fuish here is so good that, as they say in the south, it’ll make you wanna slap ya mamma! Definitely get a lunch time carry out and enjoy!
