I’m going to have her make the HoHoHo’s cupcake’s for our daughter’s baby shower next month. These are simular to hostess cupcake’s but muchhh better. She made us a sample cupcake so we could taste the filling. The filling is a marshmellow type. We were concerned about the marshmellow since some of us don’t marshmellow’s. Turned out the filling is light and fluffy and creamy tasting. We wouldn’t have known it was marshmellow if she hadn’t told us! I’m having the filling made blue for the expected Boy that our daughter will having the end of November.

So this is not really an update to this review, just a friendly note to all other Unilocalers out there. This business tracked me down, found my employer and sent a letter asking me to take it down, without asking me personally first. so if you end up there and choose to write a review that isn’t glowingly positive, be prepared to be hunted down.

Loooooove Le Petit Rouge. Great curb appeal through the Reading Reptile’s window. The theme is genius. The cupcakes are to-die-for. My favorite in the Goldilocks, a lemon polenta lavender cupcake with a dainty flower on top. They’re always adding to the menu and the whoopie pies change flavor all the time. I’m partial to the caramel and peppermint ones. The cupcakes are just the right size and price. Next time I go in I want to try one of the beautiful blown sugar lollipops. They’re almost too pretty to eat. Plus, everyone’s just so nice at the Reading Reptile(however, I don’t think the owner will ever forget how I beat him to the last caramel whoopie pie one time…)!

Was in the neighborhood with a friend and decided to stop by and try one of the cupcakes at Le Petit Rouge. I bought The Big Bag Wolf which was fantastic! The icing was perfect(not a lot but just enough) and was chocolaty. I also bought The Fairy Godmother but I haven’t tried it yet, i imagine it will be delicious. A word of warning, it is inside of a kids bookstore so watch out for the kids running around(it honestly wasn’t that bad and we went at noon). The cupcakes here are worth dealing with the kids running around and being a little on the loud side.

The cupcakes at Le Petit Rouge are divine. Decadent, sweet, dark pleasures await you. Fascinating flavor profiles with clever names tempt me, beckoning me to indulge… I feel as though I’m being unfaithful to my favorite cupcake, but can it be wrong when it feels so right? My tongue still remembers the moist chocolate cake and the texture of the silky butter cream. The Big Bad Wolf, was just that. Big… and probably very bad for my hips. But, ask me if I cared in the heat of cupcake reverie, and I would scream a resounding… No! So, my hungry friend, when you need to sneak out to fulfill your yet unrequited cupcake desires, try Le Petit Rouge. You will, however, need to sneak out during the day… they are only open until early afternoon.

Yum. Le Petit Rouge cupcakes are darling little packages of sweetness located in an adorable little book shop for children. Though the cupcake craze has indulged the grown-up sweet tooth recently, cupcakes are loved by young and old alike and these mini cakes fit perfectly in this store meant for mini people. The cupcakes are simple with a touch of whimsy. The cupcake sizes are small compared to the gourmet cupcakes around town. These are about the size of the standard cupcakes you make at home, maybe a little smaller, which is not only perfect for the little ones, but also for my diet conscience. The only big cupcake is the jumbo-sized Big Bad Wolf(the size of a Cupcake a la Mode cupcake). Big Bad Wolf has«Grandma» inside, so he has to be a little bigger. The cake: frosting ratio is spot on and the frosting itself is not too sweet. Of the flavors offered, I had the Little Pig and tasted a piece from my friend’s Little Red. Little Pig(milk chocolate cake with brown buttercream and bacon garnish): YUMMY! The consistency of the cake was soft and the flavor heavenly. The brown buttercream was a pleasant surprise! It is actually a «brown butter» buttercream, so the flavor is toffee-like, with a burnt quality. It gave the cake an almost savory taste. Quite mature for a kid’s palate, in my opinion. It was absolutely divine. The bacon on top was the right amount of salty to finish the refined cupcake. Little Red(rich cocoa-red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream): Pretty good to meh. The frosting was delicious, not too sweet, yet flavorful and was just the right amount for the cake. The cake itself, sadly, was dry and crumbly. I’ve noticed that this is the case with a lot of red velvet cupcakes. I guess it’s just really hard to do it right. Overall, the feel of the store is humble, yet magical and Le Petit Rouge cupcakes fit right in.

Le sigh. I’m already in love with Reading Reptile, and this just makes my heart sing even more for that shop, and the whimsical nature of everything inside of it. Looking in from the outside, you can’t see much past the dense, papier-mâché forest, but walk inside, turn immediately to the right, and you are greeted by a couple of tidy refrigerator cases filled with beautiful cupcakes. I am not a huge cupcake lover, yet I had to restrain myself because they all looked so good! I ended up with a Big Bad Wolf(large chocolate cupcake with a Grandma cupcake inside! and chocolate meringue buttercream), Goldilocks(lemon polenta lavender cake w/vanilla meringue buttercream), Jack(chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream), Snow White(white cake with apple frosting), and Robin Hood(Boulevard stout and ginger cake with lime buttercream.) So you don’t think I’m a total pig, these were shared with my husband and son. I got to try some of each, though, and they were all moist and really tasty. I loved the frosting on the Big Bad Wolf, but overall my very favorites were Snow White, and Robin Hood… and Goldilocks. I’m excited to try others! Besides the cupcakes themselves, I LOVE the look of Le Petit Rouge. The signage is some of my favorite in town(frames with fabric inside.) There are little baskets lined with red fabric for sale to carry your cupcakes in if you desire. You can eat a cupcake in the shop, or take them to go. They have containers of milk, and bottles of water available for purchase if you need them.
