If you love or like Tapas this is the place to go. Great food and booze. I don’t think there is any dish here that I don’t like. Every time I come I try something new. I have not been disappointed yet.

Well the food was awesome, but our service was extremely lacking. We got there right around 2pm on Sunday, which was their opening time. We were prepared to wait, but the host seated us right away and there were other people in our section already so we thought maybe they’d opened earlier than posted. Then we waited. We waited about 15mins with no one even acknowledging us. They didn’t come to the other tables either, but since they all had food and drink it didn’t seem to bother them. Finally, a server who was not in our section came over to see if he could fill our drinks… Then he noticed we didn’t have drinks. He immediately jumped into action: brought us water, apologized, took our order and rusted our plates out. Between our server and the food quality, which was excellent, we were able to turn this encounter around somewhat. We ordered the 3 dishes from Tapas Calientes to split. Queso de Cabra Al Horno, Montaditos del Carne de Cerdo, and Papas Fritas con Ajo. It was more than enough and while everything was tasty, the papas fritas stole the show! We’ll definitely go back, but I just hope they’ll seat us in a section that’s being covered!

I’ve spent time in Madrid and fell in love with tapas so when I discovered a tapas bar in Kansas City I was excited to try it. I was not disappointed. I brought 3 new friends who had never tried tapas before so I was a bit concerned about how they’d like it but they were so impressed they’re still talking about it! The tapas menu is authentic and extensive, the wine list has something for everyone(even some of my favorite Santa Cruz labels!) and I was so happy to find cava as well. My favorite was the baguette with goat cheese and fig coulis but the potatas bravas we as close second. I don’t come to KC often but I’ll come back to La Bodega when I do!

oh dios mio! What a disappointment =(. I’ve been wanting to try this place out for the longest time. Last Thursday(5⁄12) I had decided to give it a go during happy hour. Let’s talk about the food and booze– First off, very impressed with the cocktail list. However, not the beers. The selection was limited. Happy hour, I believe the items in with blue dots(leaf?) were the items on happy hour which where ranged between $ 3-$ 5 not too bad. BUT the taste… what taste =l? The Alubias Blanco con Pimiento– lacked any kind of flavor. And since the table had not salt and pepper, I couldn’t even try to give it a little boost. The Pincho de Pollo y Chorizo– was NOT chorizo. We didn’t even eat all 1 skew. I returned it without ordering anything else. The chicken was dry, the aioli had no taste of cumin or garlic. And the«chorizo» was literally a veinne sausage cut up. Not tradition, pork sausage. Outside seating was great! However, I never realized how loud the hwy can be ha! but that’s okay. It was a nice day out! They had plenty of seating. So yay you guys(hence the 1 star) Will I come back? Nahhh

I had a grin from ear to ear the entire time I was here. No pressure to make an order. You can just relax and talk to your significant other and friends. It’s a bit loud, but probably because everyone is having a blast. The tapas are all great. I’m kind of a picky eater but when food is this good and I’ve had a few drinks I’ll try almost anything. They get busy so be prepared. Loved it.

Coming from work, I felt like I needed a «Siesta». On an 80 degree day, it was nice to sit outside at La Bodega. I was super impressed by the food. I opted out of Tapas and went full in on the Zarzuelo De Mariscos. It was one of the best dishes I’ve had in recent memory. There was mix of Seafood and Chorizo in this spicy fish stock surrounded by saffron rice. Every bite was better than the next and if I come back, not sure I’m willing to try anything else.

One of my favorite restaurants in KC. They have delicious tapas and tasty sangria. For dessert, I recommend the churros!

Great place and the saturday evening was jam packed. We ended up getting a table outside and it was pretty cold. The wooden flooring was a little difficult to manage. We ended up getting a lot more of appetizers and lesser entrees but food was fairly good. Though I expected potatoes to be fried but they ended up baked, so it was nothing special. Veggie options are very less but a good variety for meat lovers. The drinks were pretty good here as well. The menu is expensive but good for one-time visit. The service was slow and it was Ok, not that great.

Have been here few times. Food is good, service is OK. Husband and daughter love La Bodega, they give 5 stars. I give 3 stars because the other Spanish tapas place menu is much more suit for my taste.

Fantastic tapas experience, hip ambiance but high prices. Favorite bite of the night? Really hard to say. It would be far easier to say that the dish that worked the least well was the calamari with chorizo. Everything else was really yummy. They do a great job of pairing sauces with the other components of their dishes and everything is well crafted. Desserts were fantastic. If you want to achieve a higher level of decadence I would recommend ordering both the churros and the s’mores concoction. After your wife eats all of the marshmallow off of the s’mores you dip a churro in the chocolate that remains in the cup. Almost like being in Spain again except quite a bit more sweet. Loud and fast-paced restaurant environment but the pace of the meal is appropriately slow. The ambiance was more headache-inducing than I would have preferred but I’m increasingly far removed from my 20s. Also, the cost was pretty damn high compared to other tapas restaurants I’ve visited in bigger cities and abroad. Two adults + two teenage girls = $ 170 for dinner, including tip and two glasses of sangria.

It really was a great place to eat. Good food, their wine selection is great, and the coffee with dessert is yum! Dave, the Asst. General Manager, was helpful in choosing a wine we would all enjoy. He was also good about checking to see how every table was satisfied with the service. Our waitress was outstanding too. Highly recommend!

After my failed attempt to get food at another restaurant up north I was STAAARRRVVVVING! THANK God, Moses, Mary& all the angels in heaven that this place had a 9 pm. reservation for 4 available. Parking is bad but that’s known for any place on Southwest Blvd. We arrive at the restaurant right on time & only had a few minutes to wait as they were cleaning off tables. The place is decorated nicely & the staff all have on uniforms of plaid shirts with black bottoms. They all looked very nice. Management walked around in suits & ties checking on things, very professional. This is my husband & I first time here so we relied on our friends to tell us how tapas, small platea, etc worked. My goodness there were so many items that sounded so yummy to choose from so where to begin. First I couldn’t pronounce anything & that was so funny. I had to point on the menu as to what I wanted to order. Lol So we had the potatoes, the meatballs, the shrimp in some garlic sauce, grilled small peppers with bacon, the squid, the red peppers stuffed, & one other item that I can’t remember. But what I do remember is that EVERY item was awesome! Everything was cooked to perfection & the sauce that they put on there is to die for! For dessert we had the chocolate trifle, the espresso & chocolate, & raspberry churros. Everyone tried them all & were were again in hog heaven! The espresso chocolate was so light & rich with just the right amount of fresh whip cream on top! I sadly, have to admit that I devoured the churros my myself! Lord they were so good! When you combine stellar service & excellent food together you have a restaurant that will continue to thrive & have a lot of repeat customers. I will definitely be back & with more friends & family. Keep up the excellent work La Bodega!

I wish this had been a better experience. I had made reservations, but staff said they couldn’t find it– very peculiar, since I was able to pull it up on my phone to show. Maybe it wouldn’t have been as big of a deal, but it was NYE, ffs, and a reservation was necessary(which is why, you know, I made one.) That was strike one. Strike two(and three, as well, I guess!) was seating us at a table that practically abutting the bar behind us, a bar that not only was filled with people, but had people standing behind those people… OK, I wasn’t happy with this, but was thoroughly displeased when staff made comments suggesting that they were going out of the way to accommodate us– again, since we didn’t have a reservation. There really shouldn’t have been anyone seated there at all, and at the very least, people who were eating a full meal(full as in 3 full courses with drinks), not simply apps or drinks, could have been afforded a more comfortable place to sit. It was noisy and people bumped in to us constantly throughout our evening(our reservations were at 7 and we were out by 9– plenty early for the very reason of wanting to miss the rowdiest of the NYE crowd. Also, I was in a dress and heals and we were seated at a table with high stools? It just was all very inconsiderate and I wish I had been more assertive about the whole situation. I don’t often let things get me down– things happen, especially on a busy night, and when people sincerely admit that a mistake was made, I will always show understanding. None of that happened here. My food wasgood, thank heavens. I had the salmon entrée and was pleased. It was moist and flaky like it should be. However, I’m sad, because I can’t even remember what my partner had– he was really unhappy with whatever it was. It was some sort of animal protein(likely beef) that was like, severely undercooked– which, for him, meant it was really, really, really under done. I like my things medium well to well done, so the dish definitely didn’t work out for me. The bloody plate made my stomach turn. And since we didn’t have much for service, there wasn’t an opportunity to request that it be cooked further. So there ya go. I love restaurant week and la bodega’s menu looks killer, but don’t want to set myself up for another disappointing experience– I like to spend money on food, and do, but it’s too expensive for mistakes like that which we experienced.

If you’re looking for a place to hang out with friends and have a couple of appetizers, enough said this is the place to go. With happy hour every day of the week(until 6pm), you’re bound to find your favorite tapa that you will never forget about. By far one of my favorite places to go. My must have’s are Champiñones a la Plancha bathed in white wine and Patatas Brabas. Give them a try, they are delicious. The Red Sangria Pitcher during happy hour is an amazing deal too(especially if you are on a all-liquid diet).

I’m still baffled as to why this place wasn’t packed on the Sunday I went here for happy hour a few weeks ago– the food was delicious(not super authentic, but great takes on tapas), sangria pitchers were half price, and the sun was shining on the patio. Did I mention they do a weekend happy hour? One of the few places in town… After reviewing the menu and being super indecisive, well, why not just order one of practically EVERYTHING on happy hour that sounds good. Here’s how that went down: –Pintxos Higo: a must if you want a bread dish or something slightly sweet, but not dessert-like. The goat cheese and figs go so well together. –Judias Verdes –Queso Cabra –Calamares: not on HH, but in my opinion always worth it. –Campiones: an entire plate of mushrooms, just order them. –Albondigas: tried these for the first time — extremely rich and delicious. –Pincho d Pollo: can turn your happy hour into a definite meal. –Pitcher of sangria(total of 6 – 8 glasses) Total bill: $ 50.86, complete steal for an overabundance of food and drinks for two people. Since the place was empty, the service was great(although I’ve never had bad service here even when they’re busy). I personally enjoy the fact that they bring out the tapas in waves and don’t wait for everything to be done at once so you can just snack as you go along, but to be noted if you’ve never been before.

My first experience with La Bodega wasn’t a great one BUTTHISHADNOTHINGTODOWITH La Bodega! Their food and drinks are wonderful. Their service is spot on. My first visit I was with a group of women and only employed part time myself. I couldn’t afford much so when ordering I got a small $ 11 plate and a tea. At the end of the meal the other 3 women had racked up a $ 300 bill! 300 bucks is easy when you’re drinking and having a good time. Comes time to pay and the women say«let’s just split it 4 ways.» Not considering what I had ordered. I started to push back and was treated like an old grumpy miser by the party. I end up forking out 80 something dollars for food and drink I never enjoyed because these«ladies» were the real cheap ones. I’ve been back to La Bodega many times with people who pay their own way and share my pitcher of Sangria with everyone.

Darn, I so was prepared to give this trendy, perfect for me, restaurant a 5 plus star review but then… First the great The atmosphere does exceed expectations for trendy and upbeat. The décor is amazing with eclectic murals, lighting, bar, full wall windows, wine racks, patios that rival the best of D(allas), and background music to perfection. Six stars for atmosphere. They apparently do paella cook off special events once per month(complaint coming on this topic) and I happened to be there on the night of the event. I have to say, the atmosphere the event created was really fun. The face off chefs *see picture* look like they were having fun and the guests enjoyed themselves… the event looked successful. The Meh… me thinks not 99% of everything I ate was completely disappointing. Spanish tapas are one of my favs, and we do have an authentic restaurant in Dallas(Si Tapas) that I’m using as comparison. This restaurant is not Soanish, it’s AMERICAN. the chef is American and maybe he’s putting his creative spin on traditional dishes but don’t fix it if it ain’t broken. I can guarantee people don’t return to this place for the food. List of what I had… Spanish tempranillo: recommended by bartender. Awesome.2 glasses Aceitunas Alinadas(olives): awesome… oh yeah, chef doesn’t touch these Tortilla Española: one of my traditional favs but a horrible rendition of this dish. I DON’T RECOMMEND. It’s more like a quiche or frittata, far too dense to be a tortilla. Plus, he layers on a sauce over it which I bet is sriracha and mayo, then tops it with tomatoes. A complete waste of my money here and I’d pay double for Si Tapas. House Salad: not bad but the dressing was too powerful to enjoy the goat cheese and peppers. Eh, try if you must but I wouldn’t buy it again Chorizo: another traditional fav. My only complaint is the over usage of that cheap tasting mayo sauce. Bread: yum, hot, fresh, tasty. Probably sourced from a local bakery and really good. Paella(only on Wednesday): it will be different every week but tonight the visiting challenge chef won.

A tapas restaurant in the heart of urban, Hispanic, Kansas City, La Bodega offers tasty vegetarian options with a vibrant dining environment. I went with my best friend from undergrad for a late lunch. We were able to sit outside, and ended up ordering four vegetarian small plates: Tortilla espanola, queso de cabra al horno, champiñones a la plancha, and piperade. The tortilla espanola is like this egg and potato pie. The queso de cabra al horno is this tomato based dish with a bit of goat cheese in the center. The champiñones is a mushroom dish. The piperade is this tomato and pepper mix served on bread. The tortilla espanola was quite good. I could see how it could stand alone and not as a small plate. The egg flavor was there, but did not overwhelm. The best small plate was the queso: dipping small pieces of bread in the tomato sauce and cheese was delicious. The champiñones dish wasn’t my favorite: I think there’s just only so much mushroom(other than shiitake, which I could eat endlessly) that a human being can eat before saying no more. The piperade was the worst of the four: it tasted like someone took the peppers from a cheap frozen pizza and the sauce from a cheap frozen pizza and warmed it up! I’d definitely stay away from the piperade and focus on the queso and tortilla espanola. Overall, La Bodega is a fun restaurant. The art inside is vibrant, the servers are kind, and having sangrias midday while enjoying veggie small plates is not a bad way to spend some time.

Found this cute place on Southwest Boulevard. The front patio drew me in. It’s colorful and decorative like the perfect sidewalk restaurant. The menu is very interesting. I came at happy hour so it was half off La Bodega sangria. I like my sangria fruity and that’s exactly what I got. Sweet and fruity red sangria. For dinner I had four items. I’m going to call it as I remembered it not the Spanish name on the menu. First, was the mushrooms with garlic sauce. The sauce is a wine sauce so its not thick at all. Then chicken skewers with chorizo in garlic cumin aioli. Very delicious! Then it was the short ribs with smoked paprika with chipotle apricot wine reduction. Short ribs were a little dry the sauce was amazing. Finally, I made room for grilled shrimp wrapped pancetta in a horseradish cream sauce. That was fantastic! What a great place to enjoy quality food on a happening patio.

My friend told me about this place back in 2011. I don’t know why it took me this long to try this place out, but I finally tried this place out. I came here on a lunch date during restaurant week. I thought that parking would be an issue so I arrived around 11:50am but was surprised there were a lot of spots opened in front of the restaurant. I suppose if this were to be dinner that the parking would be a lot more scarce. I made a reservation for 12pm just in case it would be busy; however, it actually was very empty for lunch on a Saturday. Our waiter, Bill, was really nice and helpful when I told him it was my first time there. He explained a few things on the menu and told me what was popular for the hot tapas section of the lunch menu. My date and I both decided to do the restaurant week menu but also add two hot tapas plates to share. I chose the Spanish Meatball Sandwich(normally $ 11 on the lunch menu) and she chose the Chef feature which was a pan seared salmon atop thyme and citrus roasted potatoes with a saffron cream sauce. The restaurant week menu had Pot de Crème for the second course which was just dessert to some. For the two hot tapas, we chose the Pincho de Pollo y Chorizo($ 9.50) and the Champiñones a la Plancha($ 7.00). The Pincho de Pollo y Chorizo was one of the popular items on the lunch menu. I believe the French bread(I could be wrong) came out first and was good to munch on with the oil and vinegar while we waited for the hot tapas plates to come. The Champiñones a la Plancha came out after and they were delicious. I thought there were enough for the two of us to definitely share and finish. All of the ingredients really complemented each other. The Pincho de Pollo y Chorizo came out soon after and it came with 3 skewers. Those were also delicious and I saw why it was one of the popular items on the lunch menu. I would recommend either of those for a hot tapas. So good! The Spanish Meatball Sandwich was big and really«you just have to attack it» as my date said. It was good and our waiter was actually debating if he should order it after he was off of his shift; however, he was debating between that or the sliders another table ordered. I told him to order both so hopefully he did. lol The Pot de Crème was good at first until I was almost done. It was very, very rich but I kept pushing forward to finish. La Bodega has good food and definitely a tapas place you have to check out if you’re in the area. Try to carpool as parking can be scarce or just come super early.
