I am a big Dr. Noland fan. I went to him with lots of questions as to what might have happened to me. I had no clue. I had x-rays initially and with inclusive results, Dr. Noland recommended an MRI. Once I had the MRI, I began to see that Dr. Noland was a step ahead of me the entire way. In a good way — every time he had a good guess as to what had happened to me(sports injury), he was right without jumping to conclusions. As a result, I tore my ACL and had to have it replaced. Dr. Noland then referred me to Dr. Key for surgery. Both men were extremely friendly, helpful, professional and — best of all — experts! I will recommend Dr. Noland to all my friends in the future. PS: He saw me for x-rays the day after it all happened. Amazing.

This guy is like Dr. House without the charming bedside manner and correct diagnosis. I experienced egregiously bad treatment here and left in tears. I’ve never cried after leaving a doctor’s office before. That says a lot and it’s what compelled me to write this review. I can handle doctors who are jerks, as long as they seem like they know what they are doing. This guy was a jerk AND he misdiagnosed my really obvious problem. What is really sad is that there was a medical student observing the entire time in the hopes of learning something. I sincerely hope she knows that this is not how you treat patients who are in pain and suffering and seeking help. This doctor needs to learn how to treat a patient with respect, listen to what they are saying, not ignore their obvious symptoms which all point to a very simple diagnosis(seriously, if you type in the main symptom on Google the first page is a link to this ailment… it’s not some rare, obscure thing) and not coldly dismiss them, telling them to go home, do nothing and just live with the pain. I was also told I’d be wasting my time to follow up with another doctor. What kind of doctor gives advice like that? I don’t expect doctors to be superhuman. I know they make mistakes. I can handle a doctor making a misdiagnosis if I feel they truly care and are trying their best and treating me with kindness and concern and I can handle a doctor who has a very brusque manner if they are on the top of their game and their abilities outshine their lack of bedside manner. What I can’t handle is when someone is making a misdiagnosis and treating you like you’re wasting their time and trying to discourage you from doing anything to get relief from your pain and not following up with you and deterring you from following up with another doctor. To me that’s just arrogant, sloppy and irresponsible medicine. Update: I cannot recommend highly enough Dr. Steven B. Smith at the North Kansas City Hospital. What a professional and polished office they have(quite a contrast from the depressing prison cinder-block look of the Kirmeyer Fitness Center). They took x-rays when I arrived(Dr. Noland never took x-rays), which took all of 5 minutes! As soon as I described my symptoms to Dr. Smith he diagnosed me as having De Quervain’s tendinitis and gave me 4 options and explained each to me: surgery, cortisone shots, physical therapy or do nothing and see if it improves on its own over time(and based on the duration of my symptoms he did not recommend this). That’s a far cry from Dr. Noland who gave me a blank stare when I asked him what my options were. For the record, I’m starting with the physical therapy and going from there.
