Eh. I mean I think this place is a bit overpriced for the sandwiches they serve. The chicken parm sandwich was pretty good but I’ve had way better for way less. It’s a good lunch place because it’s close by where I’m at for now.

Johnny C’s is amazing! A Kansas City tradition. Great sandwiches, hot or cold, and delicious lasagna. Save room for a cannoli. There’s always a line, but don’t let that deter you because the kitchen is fast and efficient. Johnny C’s is a must try.

2nd time here and OMG! I have lived here for a couple years and wish I had found Johnny C’s earlier. The quality of the food, attentiveness of service and staff are exactly how a restaurant should be run. Seeing Johnny up front is a plus because he is so engaging with guest and staff. Please don’t change a thing

This is a great restaurant, off of the beaten path. You truly can’t go wrong here. The Italian trio is a great sandwich! Pay the upcharge and get pasta salad as the side. The lasagne and the spaghetti are wonderful(get the meatball with the spaghetti). Huge portions! If you are looking for dessert, they are all tasty. Two thumbs up!

I’ve been here a handful of times over the last few years. It’s so good. It’s the hidden gem of Front Street. I highly recommend the Italian trio. But really anything is delicious. Even when they’re slammed for their lunch rush, you still get your food rather quickly. 10⁄10 would eat here again.

While the people/owner are nice/friendly, the place is real outdated, but the eats are pretty solid. Not terrible, but ok. Specially enjoy their hearty meat sauce, pizza bread, and Italian trio. And fresh tomato salad. Order it almost every time.

Always a great lunch. Meatball sandwich one of the best in Kansas City. Tucked away in the back of this strip center, this little deli is consistently good. Check it out.

Good fast lunch. I had the Rueben. Good fresh bread. Would order again. Give it a try. Don’t let the long lines scare you. They run two counters. In and out quickly.

Johnny was a genius. This deli off of front street is a hit with everyone I know. When he first opened the line was out the front door and down the sidewalk. Shortly after that he doubled his space. He stool there all day playing the piano(cash register) barking out instructions to the crew(including his mother) and those instructions were followed to a T. The food is always good! I have never had anything that wasn’t up to par and it is that way day in and day out. He always has a special and it is just that special! He has done so well the kids are in charge now and they are barking out the orders and props to Dad and Mom, this is a second generation who get’s it and runs the place like their folks did. No one will control the ship like Johnny standing at the helm(cash register) but his family is doing a heck of a job and food is just as good. Eat here!

This place is hidden but apparently we’ll know at the lunch hour. I actually found it on accident after coming to the office next door and noticing the amount of people stopping in to go there. The deli has 2 lines that split and taking orders as fast as they can. The Half order sandwiches are massive and everything is fresh and great! I’d have to say one of the best simple ham sandwiches I’ve had! Got to go try this place out if your in the area!

Great hidden gem! Not open for dinner but that is good because I would sometimes eat there twice in a day if they were open later! John and His daughter Joanna and the rest of the staff handle the crowds like true pros! I have had many of the sandwiches and lots of the specials and they are all great! Don’t pass on the cannoli or pineapple upside down cake! My favorite is the muffalatta. We are from the South and I have had a good muff from New Orleans and this is damn close if not better! Get there before moon because they get busy, but as I said, they are a well oiled service machine! Prices are a little high but worth it. keeps me from going too much!

I never would have stumbled across this place in a million years if it weren’t for Unilocal. It’s in the middle of an industrial area, in a strip mall that is mostly empty. I’m glad I found it though. The owner, Johnny was a cool guy. I went towards the end of the day, so I didn’t have to stand in a long line. I decided to try the reuben after hearing another customer call it the«best one ever.» It was good. I also had a side salad and I was told that the dressing was pretty strong(it’s the one they bottle and sell). It was a really strong flavor, but it was good. The portions were good and the price was reasonable. They have lots of different sandwiches and desserts. I’d go back; but maybe wear something with an elastic waist that day.

A friend told me about this place and I have had it bookmarked forever. I finally in for bite today with a customer. Meatball sandwich. Picture this… A tender, monster meatball sliced to resemble something in between a hamburger patty and a piece of meatloaf on each holf of the sandwich. Good tomato sauce. Melted cheese. Sesame roll. Add a sprinkle of pepper flakes from yours truly. Tomato salad Picture tomato wedges, basil, onion. and celery swimming in a Styrofoam ramekin of Johnny’s Italian dressing. Now picture a happy, drooling customer and you should have an image of me. :)

Talk about a hidden gem! This was exactly that and if you didn’t know somebody like my awesome coworker, then you might have never heard of this place nor will you know where it’s located. Of course, if you’re reading this review, then you have the street address in front of you. This place was tucked away in a place that looked like it was only local business offices. Their sign from the street wasn’t big but it gets the job done if you had supervision — that or if you were like 3 feet away from it(I’m exaggerating…). We arrived before noon and it was already crowded. There were two lines that branched left and right which was a good way to alleviate traffic. The menu had a wide variety of food to choose from like sandwiches and pasta. My coworker recommend the Meatball Sub($ 6.19) so that’s what I ordered. In addition, I ordered a medium drink($ 1.49) and a large chocolate chip cookie($ 1.14) for my dessert. We were lucky enough to claim a table for the three of us which was one of the last tables available. The food came out in a few minutes which wasn’t bad considering they were probably going as fast as they can to prepare everybody’s delicious food. My Meatball Sub was awesome because the melted cheese complemented the meatball which was prepared well. It’s one of those kinds of food that you take a bite and a cheese string will emerge. The size of the sub was perfect for me and I think most people will be able to finish it in one sitting. The chocolate chip cookie was delicious and I thought it had the right amount of softness while still being a little crisp. Good combination and good way to finish up my meal. I think all of the subs and sandwiches came with a bag of chips. I’m glad they didn’t give us Lay’s Classic Potato Chips because that’s the worse one you can have. No offense to anybody who likes those but for me personally, I don’t want to eat those if i don’t have to. The interior was nothing special and it was in a U-shape. I think it gave the place that deli feel with a slight Italian restaurant feel to it. It can also be one of those places you COULD come to eat by yourself and nobody would care because everybody’s enjoying their food along with good company(hopefully). The staff here were nice and friendly and apparently a lot of the people who ate here were regulars; I heard the lady saying a bunch of names as she picked up the trays. I definitely thought this place was worth my money for the amount of food I got. I recommend the Meatball Sub and a large cookie! I’ll definitely be back to try other stuff on the menu.

I work in the Front Street area and we don’t have many choices for lunch around here. Johnny C’s is really the only non-fast food option that’s close. Lucky for me, it’s also great food. I’m a big fan of the meatball sub. The guys I work with are regular eaters of the Gondola. The chocolate cake is the bomb, especially if it was made that day. The only item I wouldn’t recommend is the chicken parm sandwich, I just wasn’t impressed, but the service is fast and friendly. Every time. «What can I get cha Honey?»

This is a great deli and I would eat here more but the flow is not exactly what I would call quick especially between 11:30– 12:30 when I start my lunch. I was taking something there on Wednesday and there was a line to the door so we turned around and went to Subway which also had Giant line of 25 people by the time we left. Maybe that area just sucks at 12 since theres only 5 places to choose for that entire industrial area. I have had good experiences here before whenever we are taking an extended lunch though and the food is very tasty for a reasonable price. If your tight on time like here is the url of their menu and you can call ahead to order, I just didn’t think of it that day.

I work nearby and, on average, eat here 2 – 3 times per week. I usually grab my sandwich or pasta to go and head back out of there, but eating in is just fine. Johnny and his daughter Joanna run the place, and the staff remain the same over a long period of time, which is saying something for the food service industry. If it’s your first visit, either go with their daily lunch special(the lasagna is always a good one), or my favorite sandwich is the Italian Trio, heated… messy to eat, but it never disappoints.

This is a hidden treasure! This place seems to be mired in an industrial park just off Front Street near 435. I was a little timid about going in at first because of the area, but as soon as I stepped in this place was hopping! I went for lunch on a Tuesday and there was a wide mix of professionals and construction workers that were working in the area. The restaurant serves hot or cold deli sandwiches and an array of Italian pastas. Orders were being taken very quickly and there was hardly a line. The counter was full of fresh back Otis-Spunkmeyer cookies and homemade desserts. They also offer a daily special. That day it was lasagna with meat sauce. I did not see many vegetarian options(hence the 3 star rating), but they do offer a three cheese sub and make your own sub options. I went with the three cheese sub(heated) plus all the veggies and jalapeño peppers. The sub came out on a soft eight inch white bread hoagie along with a bag of potato chips. The pasta entrees are large enough to comfortably fill two people up or to take home for dinner. The wait staff was very kind and I probably had three separate staff members come by and ask if we needed anything or if everything tasted good.

I was taken to this hidden gem off Front street by a co worker who delights me regularly with new lunch places. When we pulled up I worried about this one, however, when people steadily rolled into this unassuming joint I figured I wouldn’t be disappointed. This deli had a counter with two sides opened up and taking orders quickly for this busy lunch hour. It was obvious that the majority of the customers were regulars and I felt a bit out of place not knowing the drill or what to order. The pretty young woman on my side of the counter(who I was told is the owner’s daughter) made it easy though as I ordered the Chicken Amogio sandwich. We luckily found a table and waited as the counter staff shouted out order after order. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast the service was. The special of the day was lasagna, which everyone at my table got. A good hunk of afternoon coma– i mean pasta and cheese, came with 2 pieces of bread and a side salad. My sandwich was really good– hot and tasty! My only regret was not trying the desserts that were lined up in front of me the whole time! :)
