I visited on their first First Friday, They had free, albiet regional bands I’ve paid to see, which was awesome. I love seeing bands in small venues. There were 4 high tables, and the rest was an open floor. That part was great. There was sangria and tamales to eat, and it was a rather loud, but family safe atmosphere. But as for this being Cowtown Market? I walked around and saw everything for sale within a half hour time. I recognized one artist’s work. The rest was just stuff, except for the knitted hats. By far, this is not the old Cowtown Market, so I’ll only be going for the music. Antiques aren’t my thing. But art work is. It is next to the candy shop, but Bitterman’s wasn’t open. Parking was sketchy to say the least.

The Cowtown Mallroom was such fun, but Holy Cow is just a pale imitation of the Cowtown Mallroom. The place felt dark and grimy and there just wasn’t as much cool stuff to browse through. I did find an item I wanted from one of the vendors, but the vendor was nowhere to be found. Someone else finally rounded her up just as I was ready to leave without the item. It looks like they have an area for live music which is great, except there wasn’t any while we were there. That might have livened things up a bit. All in all, the experience wasn’t terribly noteworthy and didn’t make me want to rush back.

Have you been wondering where the Cowtown Mallroom disappeared to? Look no further than Holy Cow. The vintage market has moved across the street from their Sunday home in El Torreon to the second floor of Bitterman’s Eye Candy. This space is much smaller, but I feel it was an upgrade — one of my complaints about the Mallroom was that it could be a little on the junky side. This spot is more intimate, and Bitterman’s helps draw a crowd with their own antiques and candy. Really, who can complain about living above a candy shop? I enjoy looking through other people’s stuff, be it an antique store or an estate sale. Though I don’t always buy something every trip, there is quite the quirky selection here, as you might be able to see in my photos. But the thing that really brings me out the market on a regular basis is the live music in the afternoon. They attract quite a bit of local talent — the advantage being it’s not midnight, nor at a bar, and it’s something you can take your under 21 kids to. The musicians still give it their all, and there’s more light for better pictures. Only open on Sunday, folks — it’s something to do! Check their Facebook page to see who’s playing.
