Lauren always does an amazing job cutting my hair! I’m always getting compliments. Great location in The Crossroads, and they always play great music!

Kimberly is AMAZING! She is a hair magician! I always leave feeling super beautiful and she is also really down to earth and easy to talk to. The salon is for sure the coolest salon I have been to in Kansas City, but that doesn’t even matter, I would follow Kimberly anywhere! Great with curly hair! Amazing blowout!!!

Hairpins is a great little urban salon in the Crossroads district of downtown KC. I love all the ivy on the building and lining the walls.
And my stylist Lauren was fantastic. I went in for a cut and color and she did an amazing job. I took in a picture of the color I was hoping for and she recreated it almost exactly. The cut was also exactly what I wanted. She was training someone new, and was polite enough to ask me if I minded. Not only did I not mind, but it made my experience even better, because I was able to learn how much she really knows about her craft by watching her teach it to someone else. I would highly recommend Lauren if you are looking for a new stylist in the downtown KC area. She is great!

I’ve had good and bad experiences here. I love Bb products and have had generally good hair cuts and color at Hairpins, with the exception of one not so good color experience here. However, my stylist recently refused to give me a bang trim and acted as if it was below her to make time in her schedule for something like this. Too bad that one interaction ruined an entire relationship — I will never get my hair done there again and will no longer buy Bb product from them. I’ll buy online and get my hair cut/​colored with a stylist who can make time for a client’s simple request. Understanding and being able to deliver decent customer service and experience goes a long way.

The first time I met Liana for a haircut, I brought in a magazine photo and said I wanted to look like her. Liana looked at the photo, my hair and said, «Your hair won’t do that. Tell me what you like about her hair and we’ll see what I can do.»
She took the time to understand what elements appealed to me. Figured out how little time I had to spend on my hair each day. Then she created a beautiful wash and wear cut for me. I was hooked.
Over the past seven years as her client, she’s taught me tips and tricks for my hair. She has made me look beautiful. Last year, my tween daughter wanted to change her style. I was very happy to introduce the two of them. Liana’s amazing!

Came in to see Meredith hoping for beautifully blended, sunkissed highlights on my Asian hair. Left with a $ 230 ombré job that is brassy and looks more like a dip dye. :(Overall pretty disappointed — my quest to find a good hair colorist continues!

I can’t say enough good things about Meredith and Hairpins. It’s close to my work, which is why I originally started going and I was referred to Meredith by a friend. The salon in general has a great vibe, all the ladies that work there have been super nice and helpful when I call or arrive. It hasn’t ever been super busy when I’ve been there, which is nice. It was a little difficult to find at first, but I kind of like that, it feels like a «best kept secret» sort of place. If you are looking for a cut that will work for you and look amazing, I’d recommend Hairpins!

My stylist moved here from Roca and I like this place SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. It’s quaint and beautiful. The salon is bright and interesting.

Meredith has been cutting, styling and coloring my hair for over three years. This may not trip everyone’s trigger, but I love to just walk in and say «do whatever you feel like doing.» It’s always a treat to walk out with a brand new style or splash of crazy color! She is not only the consummate professional who keeps up with her education on a regular basis, she’s also a blast to be around. Meredith pays attention to what you like and always gives you more than you expected.

When I moved to Kansas City almost six years ago, I was forced to break up with my old hair dresser of 5 years due to a three hour drive between my new home and my old salon. I tried for several years to find a replacement, someone I could truly trust with my hair. I bounced around from salon to salon, frustrated, thinking I’d never find anyone as good as my last girl. I was finally turned on to Hairpins by a friend who had used Liana for quite some time. My search for a long term stylist in KC was finally resolved and I have been a regular of Liana’s for a couple years now. Until last week I had only been going to her for cuts, but I decided I wanted to mix things up a bit and do a little something with color this last time. Liana consulted with me on what would look good on my hair and having just come back from a trip to NY, she suggested a new hair painting technique. She did an awesome job! The color is exactly what I was going for and I feel like my already cute cut looks even better with the way she placed the colors. She knew exactly what to do to accentuate my layers. Although Liana is the only stylist I’ve gone to there, my husband uses Meredith too and I am always impressed with the job she does. All of the girls there are so cute and trendy and I never see a client leaving any of their stations without gorgeous hair. If you are looking for a great salon in the downtown area, Hairpins won’t let you down!

I was going somewhere else for a long time, and I finally decided to stop going to someone who struggled to understand what I wanted.
Liana cuts the hair of some friends and does a great job. So I decided to visit her, and I was glad I did.
She not only caught on immediately to what I was asking for, she had a good feel for my hair and what it would do. I plan to stay with Liana for the foreseeable future!
Her space is cute and conveniently located in the Crossroads. Can’t beat it.

Since I started seeing Meredith every six weeks, my hair looks fantastic, healthy and shiny. I luff her. The rest of the staff is nice and helpful, good music, good vibe.
Highly recommended salon — the best I’ve been to in KC.

Another one of those «how have I NOT reviewed this place yet» situations.
I have been going to Hairpins for quite a while now, as my stylist moved here from Skyline. At first it was hard to let go of all of the bells and whistles that Skyline dazzles you with, but once I got through the withdraw, I realized that I was still getting a stellar haircut, which really is the point, right?
I see Merideth, who has been awesome about keeping me looking clean and presentable, yet also fun. She does a great men’s cut. While obviously I have no firsthand experience with the lady-​services, the clients I all see leaving look great. Take that for what you will.
Scheduling appointments has always been incredibly flexible, and everybody that works there is incredibly friendly. They do shows on First Fridays and are always there to give you a nice PBR or glass of wine.
Also, they’re a Bumble & Bumble salon, if that type of thing is important to you.

Liana is the best! I have really difficult hair to cut and she unassumingly goes about here business. And she is as cute as a button!

This place is tooo cute! It’s a very small salon and I probably wouldn’t have randomly found it had it not been for my FAVORITE hairstylist ever moving to this place! I love the quaint space and the chandeliers that dangle from the ceiling! They use Bumble & Bumble which of course is all awesome products!
Miss Meredith Ware has been doing my hair for years and I thoroughly enjoy everytime I go see her! She is very creative and always has fun ideas to change things up but still keep me happy too!
PS… they have wine too! :)

I’ve been going to Emily for a few years now, and since she continues to «rock my hair out», I followed her when she moved over to the new Hairpins salon. What a cute place! It’s a small, quaint, yet hip and comfortable space, with chandeliers, calming colors on the walls, and a friendly ambiance. They use Bumble and Bumble products, which are amazing and smell even better. Definitely check it out, and especially if you have wavy/​curly tresses, ask for Emily Chapman! I’m always satisfied with my cut, and she really listens to what you want your hair to do!

Hairpins salon owner, Liana, has been my hairdresser for almost 10 years, and it is absolutely exciting to see her rock it out at her own eclectic/​urban salon. Nothing about this space or the hairdressers is corporate. It’s more like going to your friends house for cocktails, and while you’re there — you’re just so happening to get your hair done.
If you’re comfortable with the «salon» at Beauty Brands, or something at the mall — I’m thinking you should go outside your comfort zone, see a new part of town, meet some incredible stylists & leave with a killer new ‘do! I’m just sayin’. ..

I met Liana during a First Friday event a few months ago. Her salon was throwing a cocktail party, and I happened to wander in. Right off the bat, I loved the design & style of the salon. Very urban shabby chic. White brick walls with huge windows, large plants. I love the Crossroads district, and I work downtown, so the location was perfect for me.
I was actually looking for a new hair stylist at the time. I’ve been going to my old hair stylist for over 10 years, so it was hard to trust just anyone with my hair. My hair has been colored a very platinum blonde for years, and I didn’t want anyone screwing it up.
When Liana colored my hair for the first time, she did it perfect! Exactly what I was wanting. She also gave me some tips on how to curl my hair with a straightner. I saw her this week to get it colored again (6 weeks later). I’ve been trying to grow out my hair, so I wasn’t ready to get it cut just yet. Instead of getting it cut, she spent some time teaching me how to style my longer hair (I’ve always had short hair), by braiding it, teasing it into a bun, etc. Very helpful!
