Frederick’s Tiki Bar is one of the coolest little dive bars around town that you’ve never heard of. The bar is a converted 1-bedroom house, in a difficult-to-access area of Turner very nearly under the I-635 viaduct. It’s only open a few evenings a week, and it is closed Saturdays and Sundays. It’s a private club. I don’t know how easy or difficult it is to talk your way in when you are a first-timer as this is the only KCK private club I’ve been to where I actually DID know someone on the inside. Food-wise, I know they serve pizza that they make on site, and they have tacos at least sometimes. There are also occasionally free buffets, usually when something is being celebrated. For entertainment there are dart boards, some sort of video poker machines that I’ve never seen turned on so may not even work, and Silver Strike. There’s also regularly-scheduled karaōke. I don’t know if it’s technically supposed to have drinks outside, but there are picnic tables in the yard. I’ve never seen anyone use them. The men’s room is one of the tiniest I have ever seen. The door is only 18 inches wide and the fixtures are all miniature. There’s barely room to turn around. This is definitely one of those everybody-knows-yours-name places. I’m convinced from all my visits that the customer base is about 2 dozen people who are always there. :)
