I have never adopted an animal from here but some of the people who work here have been polite and professional. I dropped of a donation of a box of hot dogs that they use to administer medication to dogs. The issues that Meghan described I should like to think she would contact the shelter and provide them with the feedback so they can have the opportunity to improve. This is a local government facility and they don’t have a lot of options but I think it’s important for anyone who uses the facility or has experiences here, to provide the facility with feedback, positive or negative.

This place is challenging to say the least. I’m sure they are faced with the same issues as other city agencies(e.g., underfunded, underpaid, overworked, & undertrained), but it seems worse than most city agencies. They are a city animal control agency so they do what most of those places do, «control» the animal population through euthanization if pets aren’t adopted. :(They«offer» adoption from 10 – 4 M-F, but they make it extremely challenging to adopt a dog. We visited three times during adoption hours before we were able to even meet the dog we wanted. Plus, it wasn’t even an animal control employee who coordinated the meet with the dog, it was Danielle from Unleashed Pet Rescue. Thank goodness for Unleashed Pet Rescue, as they help you get through the disorganized mess that is KCK animal control. If you want a dog from KCK Animal Control, I recommend contacting Danielle from Unleashed for assistance. The pros of this place are that adopting a dog here takes them directly out of harm’s way, it’s cheap(less than $ 70), and they covered the neuter and rabies(!!!). The cons: Challenging and inefficient to say the least. Officer Schwartz is the only person who can do adoptions so you either have to catch him or even better, work with Danielle from Unleashed.
