I hired Acme Custom Brass Plating, Inc. from Kansas City, MO approximately 6 months ago to plate parts for me. The workmanship was poor. The sharp details of my parts were unnecessarily sanded away, and the plating was bubbled or peeling(all 9 parts were over-ground, bubbled, and/or peeling). The price quoted was high, so I thought their quality would be good; they have a nice website. I interviewed Jim Hummel; he told me that he knows his metals and they strip the old finish to bare metal before replating, but his drones only sanded and leveled the old finish before replating over. The old finish peeled the new finish back up, and they gave up. Jim refused to refund my payment. He said he had too much time invested and changed his story: said he doesn’t have a way to strip copper. He blamed me for giving him bad parts(I’m pretty sorry about my luck, 1500 miles away). I found a more experienced and ethical company to finish the job at less than half the price. They didn’t seem to have a problem stripping the now multiple layers, and although the new finish looks great, the edges and details were already sanded away.
