I’ve been coming to the Makiki Farmer’s Market for several weeks now. A tiny but quaint venue of a market catering to the neighborhood. I quickly purchase my vegetables and food just so I can go to Pami’s. Hey, dessert is always the best part of the meal. It is the best looking booth in the market. And, properly placed what I believe is the front of the venue. Rightly so with the color display in her treats, setup and decoration putting consumers at ease knowing this is a good place to be. Tonight, I had the pleasure of speaking to Pami, I am assuming that is her name. She just finished a line of customers, I placed my order and took the liberty to talk to her. Mainly about business now, moving into a brick and mortar location, and a little about life. Currently, she is literally a one man operation working late hours after her regular full time job. You can taste her wonderful treats in two locations; the Pearlridge Farmer’s Market and the Makiki Farmer’s Market. She also does catering. Very pleasant to talk to. I have not tried too many of her treats yet but have not been disappointed with what I have. However, I am so hooked on the mango lilikoi bar for $ 3.50. It is not too sweet. A bit crunchy but not hard. The cookie with the sweet mango and lilikoi icing I believe giving that citrus kick just kills it for me. It makes a good ala mode too. I’m thinking about buying her whole batch next time if she can give me a break on the price. Hey, I’m filipino, we like to bargain. If you do see her in your neck of the woods, get something. You will not be disappointed. If you see me there, say hi and let me know if you want the mango lilikoi bar so I can leave you one. LOL.

I find Pamis at the Makiki Farmers market when I’m craving something sweet but don’t want to drop $ 8 on a pie from sweet revenge. Her goodies ravage from $ 3 to $ 6ish and most of the things I’ve gotten from her stand have not disappointed. I love her adorable displays and chalkboard menu, very country chic. I love the bacon caramel brownie, red velvet cake(made with cream cheese frosting like it should), and lemon bar. Don’t know what to get, just ask, she’ll probably have a great recommendation!

Alright, the moment has come… Pami’s. I’ve been wanting to try this place. Yes, I finally found her by accident when I went to the Pearlridge Farmer’s Market. Tip– go early because the popular desserts were sold out when I got there. Display of desserts– everything was beautifully arranged on a table in cute glass crack seed jars and cake domes. Very tempting… Customer Service-Pami was very sweet and friendly. Pami also give me the opportunity to choose my own pieces“middles or edges.“ Now onto the«stars of the show!» Lemon bar-«WOW!» The best I’ve ever eaten. The crust was buttery and flakey… just right. The filling was tart, smooth, creamy and moist. So… good. I want another one already. S’more brownie– I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into this«camp treat.» After taking my first bite, I was a little disappointed. In every bite I took, there was chocolate and graham crackers. Something was missing? It was the main highlight of a s’more…“The Marshmellow.” Yes, the marshmellow. Next time, I’ll try the bacon brownie(It was sold out when I got there.) Red velvet cupcake– it looked beautiful and it tasted good. The cake was moist and«just right.» The cream cheese frosting was tasty and not to sweet. Can’t wait to go back to try… the bacon brownie and Pami’s signature apple pie and the carrot cake.

Ok so I am going to let everyone in on a little secret that I’ve been holding for a while… Some of the best baked goods on this island can be surprisingly found at your humble farmers market vendors. Pami’s is one of the greatest in the bunch! Let me tell you why. So I’ve tried almost the whole menu and not a single thing does not make the cut. Her lesser known items are on par with her signature stuff. Plus every time I’ve gone its always been the same quality. Oh and talk about some huge portions for not a lot of money. You could easily share one of these things. So here’s what I think of some of the things I’ve tried: Blueberry Bar: Moist but not soggy! I’m so blown away by how she keeps it from getting mushy because every time I get one of these things from somewhere else it is a ball of blueberry mess! The flavor of the berries are strong but not in a fake chemical sort of way. You can tell she uses the real deal in this stuff. It’s slightly on the tart side because of the real fruit and perfect for the blueberry lover. Lemon Bar: Perfect! I love lemon bars but have not been able to find one that I truly love until now. I don’t think I would be able to describe in detail on how awesome this lemon bar is. Not only is the flavor perfectly balanced, I can’t even complain about the lemon to crust ratio. This is a must try! Apple Pie: This thing is colossal. I bet you could feed three people with this thing. Amazing apple flavor! It’s slightly tart in a pleasing way. The crust is really flaky and plays a big part in the flavor of the pie. I think it would pair very well with a scoop of ice cream! Tiramisu: This is seriously restaurant quality tiramisu! I hope some of the Italian restaurants here are taking notes. lol It is so delicious I can’t stop thinking about it. This is one of the few desserts that she serves that get better with age.(don’t wait too long though) The top has some strong cocoa powder which makes for a good contrast but it might be off putting for some people. If you wait maybe 6 hours the flavor really mellows and the coffee really gets to soak into the cake for that classic taste and texture. This is another one that can’t be missed. Assorted brownies: I’m not really a fan of brownies with nuts or various other things mixed into it. So its nothing against the brownies its just my personal preference. From what I can tell, the brownies are of good quality and from what I can tell these are some of her best selling items, especially the rocky road brownie. Carrot Cake: This is the dessert that started it all! Dave T. actually introduced me to this dessert and I’m so thankful that he did because this is now one of my absolute favorites. Now before I had Pami’s carrot cake I hated all forms of the dessert and would not even touch it. Then the first time I tried it I think I ate like two huge pieces then ate another one in the morning. This dessert is just that epic! The only down side to all of this is you can only find this stuff at the farmers market. I have been recently seeing her at the Pearl Ridge market which is a plus! Though I hope Pami will open her own shop soon so I can grab these delicious treats any day of the week. Until then I’ll just have to hold off my cravings till the weekend. lol

AWESOME Gluten free brownies! If you’re like me and need to eat gluten free you know how hard it is to find good gluten free food — especially treats :-) I was delighted to see that Pami’s offered gluten free brownies, so I bought one out of curiosity. WOW! Her brownie was truly delicious. Made from coconut and almond flour the texture of her brownie was spot on — not too fudgy, not too cakey, but JUSTRIGHT! She tops her brownies with a toffee crumble that is perfectly crunchy and melts in your mouth. THANKYOUPAMI’S!!! I also got a loaf of her regular banana bread for my family and they said it was fantastic! Pami surely knows how to bake! You can find her fresh, delicious and addicting treats at the Hawaii Kai Farmer’s Market now located at Koko Head Elementary right on the corner of Kalanianaole and Lunalilo Home Road.

Ok everyone! If you want the best baked good anywhere, then head out to the Hawaii Kai Farmers Market at Kaiser High School on Saturday’s 9am. Pami’s baked goods are the best. Never too sweet and always the best. I love her key lime bars and haupia bars. Her fruit breads are to die for and again full of flavor and not sugar. She has both fruit and savory scones which are great and she seems to always have something new to offer. Try the apple pie! Soooo good! She knows what she is doing!

I have been coming to get the desserts of Pami’s for MONTHS now at the Hawaii Kai Farmers Market, which is located at the parking lot of Kaiser High School on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. It is pretty much a ritual for me to stop by here after doing my double Koko Head hike on Saturdays. I am all hot, sweaty and HUNGRY so I pretty much refuel here. I first fell in love with the scones here. In order to get to choose from their wide selection, I highly suggest you come early as people come to buy goodies to eat there as well as to take home. My personal favorite is the traditional cranberry and orange scones where she puts in orange zest. I also like her blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, peach, apricot, date, candied ginger and pumpkin scones. She also bakes SAVORY ones, too. My nephew likes the pepperoni scones here. It varies from week to week. I have«liked» her page on Facebook to see what types of scones she’ll have on Friday night. She is also famous for her deep dish apple pie, banana bread, zucchini bread, carrot cake, dobash cake, German chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, brownies(cream cheese or Smores), baked mochi… there is sooooo much to choose from! I’d say my absolute favorite here is her REDVELVETCAKE. I was just here earlier today and she advised me she won’t be at Hawaii Kai Farmers Market next week(8⁄17) as she’ll be at the Pineapple Festival in Wahiawa. If you are in the neighborhood of Hawaii Kai on Saturdays, I say to stop by and try her awesome desserts. NOTE: 1) CASH only 2) Pami’s Desserts and Pastries is also available on Wednesdays at Mililani Farmers Market from 9am to 1pm.
