For ten years, I lived 2 miles from this Beach Park, but only went there twice. Why? Because it’s not safe. I gave it another chance yesterday. After driving past the police station, Ann Pearl Nursing Home, and Green Haven Memorial Park, past The Salvation Army… at the end of Waikalua Road, there are 5 regular parking stalls, one disabled stall, and a turn around driveway. The brightly painted jungle gym looked new and welcoming. The restroom was relatively clean with doors on the stalls and bathroom tissue in the dispensers. The ocean was right there. The constant, cool breeze blew across the murky waters. There was no white, sandy beach — just rocks and soil. The park had a nice, green lawn that sloped down towards the water, but I wouldn’t swim there. The views of the pier and the rising sun were spectacular, but that’s where it ended… I had a strange feeling because there are unusual characters hanging around. Hey! This is 7:30am — don’t you people work? Not to be judgemental, but I just finished work, and I’m wearing scrubs — don’t look at me like I’m going to take you away! Haha! But there you are, sitting around, playing ukulele or arguing with each other or pounding on the hanging punching bag… mmm hmmm… I’d rather go home to read my book and use the restroom… back to comfort and safety… Aloha!
