Great pizza, visiting from California but grew up back east. The owner and man working are from Boston. Felt like home. They are cash only or local checks… FYI

Amazing thin crust pizza! Our pesto/​ground beef pizza was full on flavors. I really like the thin and crispy crust too. The owner/​chef was really nice and it was a great stop to fuel up on the way to Mauna Kea.
I will come back for more pizza on my next visit to the big island!
Prices were quite reasonable.

The owner/​chef was super friendly, welcoming & warm environment too. And on top of that, the food was great! We ordered pizza by the slice — hamakua mushroom & goat cheese and spinach & olive slices. Crust, sauce and toppings were delicious! The chicken Parmesan sub was great and filling too. We’ll definitely be back!

The best pizza I’ve had on any of the islands. Highly recommended, especially after you’ve ha your fill of fish tacos and poke.

I bought 2 pizzas for my students at a nearby school in Kamuela to reward them for bringing in their college forms. The pizza was good, although one was a little burnt. What surprised me the most was that I just received my check that I wrote and the owner wrote «Nigger» on it. I guess he doesnt like blacks. I will go to the BBB with this. Wow!

This is the best pizza in Waimea! At an affordable price.
We have been here many times over the last year and really love the pizza. We have dined-​in and ordered take-​out. I love the fact that the owner is so friendly and interesting to talk to.
The pizza is cooked in ovens right in front of you. So cool to watch. My kids love coming here and it is typically their first request when we go out.
We love all the pizza topping options and the Boston style thin crust pizza. The ingredients at excellent and don’t taste like fast food in any way.

Definitely not gluten-​free.
Decided to try this place after we read the reviews and saw that they had glutenfree pizza (for my wife who is celiac). A lot of pizza joints are really good with the gluten-​free and have really good steps in place to ensure as little contamination as possible. This place has 0.
Flour everywhere, using same utensils, same ovens (and putting the pizza straight in there).
Regular pizza was ok, but beware, do NOT come here for the gluten-​free pizza (if you are intolerant or celiac).

Mouth watering pizza! Casual dining. Eat in or take out. BYOB! Open kitchen lets you watch James throw the pizza up and spread all of the tasty toppings of your choice. He certainly knows what he’s doing, each pizza is truly a work of art!

Bland Pizza, lackluster service, and dirty. Buy a Digiorno or Dominos instead!
I want to preface this review by saying I know it is hard to own and operate a small business on the big island and I cut every restaurant a certain bit of slack and make concessions. I make it a point to support local business whenever I can.
When we walked in we waited for a few minutes while the gal was making pizza and staring at us before we asked do we just seat ourselves. Then we decided to sit outside because it felt like we were in the pizza oven when inside the establishment. The outside table was so dirty that I don’t think it had been cleaned in weeks. It took three baby wipes. We asked for a highchair which was in the back near the restroom covered with flour bags, the girl removed the flour bags, and then grabbed a wet cloth from her back pocket and gave it a really quick once over, it was still covered with flour so we wiped it down.
We placed a simple order, after coming outside I realized the clerk did not charge us enough so I went back in to give her the correct amount, she then realized that we asked for toppings and told the pizza girl to add them.
When the pizza came out it looked okay but tasted rather bland, all my taste buds could recognize was tomato paste, the wheat flour crust, and tasteless sausage. However the parmesan cheese shaker was good.
Before we left my daughter needed to use the restroom, no toilet paper… Go figure.
This place needs to make some serious changes or close it’s doors. I will never go back!

We loved it! This was the best pizza we had on the island. We ordered a half pepperoni half meatball pizza and it was delicious. There is no beer or wine in stock, but that is not a problem. We walked over to the gas station next door and bought our drinks.
We had a chance to talk to James and Angelo, and it turns out that he learned his craft in the north end of Boston. That’s where Pizzeria Regina is based. Therefore, he was an expert!
I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

Since moving from Oahu we’ve pretty much been under the radar in the Unilocal-iverse…I mean, I lost my «elite» status since I can hardly go out anywhere! All that being said, we’ve found a real gem in this awesome pizza place.
James Angelo’s Underground Pizza makes the kind of pizzas I dream about. His crust is the stuff of champions: thin and crispy, but sturdy and delicious. His sauce is delicious. His toppings are awesome. My favorite is Italian sausage and mushroom, but everything we’ve tried is delicious.
I love that we can usually (as long as there is some available) get our picky kiddo a giant piece of cheese pizza while we enjoy something with toppings. I read we can bring in toppings but haven’t done that yet… it would be good though!
We had our son’s bday dinner here at their HUGE table. If you aren’t just picking up, there are tables, including one outside. Plus it’s BYOB, though we usually take ours home.
Cash or local check only. Don’t forget! If you DO forget, you can easily grab cash from the atm at the Minit-​Stop across the street! The pizza is worth it.

Great pizza and a friendly owner. A large 18″ cheese pizza was $ 14, and a dollar per topping for most toppings).

Best pizza in Waimea hands down. My wife and I usually make our own pizza from scratch. This is the only place we buy pizza from anymore. The crust is incredible and the toppings are always fresh. If you like great pizza then you need to check out Underground.

As a former employee there I must say the owner is a power trip sexist pig! He mistreats any employee who has ever worked for him hence why he still has a help wanted sign posted in his window for a whole year.
His food is terrible. I can make a better pizza at home with real homemade ingredients! Besides cockroaches crawling in/​on pizza boxes that you folks get your take out in, theres cross contamination in every single topping he uses. No one wears gloves there when handeling food & the place is filthy.
If your looking for an «east coast» style pizza well this is your spot. It comes with fake smiles, food posioning, & boxed roaches!

Great pizza, cozy place, the owner James is great with kids. He taught them how to make pizza, they loved it!

Service– First of all, this is a very low-​key establishment — you can bring your own wine, even toppings, so I’m not surprised that the other reviewer felt like she was ignored. It’s a casual, seat yourself restaurant. You pay and order at the front.
Food– it’s good pizza. I’m not sure what else there is to say since taste is subjective. The pizza is thin crust and hand tossed. The sauce is flavorful and toppings are plenty.
Price– $ 14 for an 18″ pizza. That’s pretty good by most standards.
We met the guy prominently featured on the menu: I guess he is James Angelo (I could be wrong). He was nice to the kids and adults alike.

Pure and simple, this place has excellent pizza! Probably the top 3 pizzas I have ever tasted!
Place is bare bones and so is the owner’s personality. Please don’t expect much in that department.
But the place is clean and delivers the goods once you taste one of his pies. The dough is top notch and the cheeses he uses are incredible. And I can’t remember which one I had. That good! Divine pizza awaits.
