U-Haul Moving & Storage of Kalamazoo

I was skeptical about using U-​Haul after seeing tons of negative reviews of the service online (not of the Kalamazoo location, just in general), but I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was on the up and up: truck as advertised, no extra fees assessed, friendly customer service. Recommended.

friendly, helpful, made renting a truck a piece of cake. I needed a truck on a Sunday morning, and the UHaul corporate phone # said this location opened at 9am Sundays. I pull into the parking lot around ten to nine, and the shop is already open and bustling, and i’m driving down the road in a UHaul at nine on the nose. I had no idea they sold so much useful stuff in their shop.

I rolled into their shop yesterday with a question about hitches and adapters. Next thing I know I’m leaving with my problem solved. They are friendly, quick, helpful and long on customer service. I’m very happy to recommend them.

Way too much went wrong. I had an appointment to pick up my U-​Boxes and rent a truck and trailer. Insufficient counter help meant I had to wait 15 minutes for my turn. Then they didn’t have a record of my appointment to get my U-​Boxes, so the boxes were «buried» behind others, necessitating multiple maneuvering of other U-​Boxes by forklift in a cramped garage space. This was interrupted by servicing other customers. In the meantime my hired crew of moving helpers showed up on time and spent quite awhile standing around with nothing to do. Finally my truck and trailer were produced and the U-​Box was loaded on – only to discover that it was backward and had to be turned around, requiring more forklift work in the tight garage. Then the cover had to be put on, which is good for nothing except advertising, and guess what? The first attempt had the cover backwards! It took an hour and three-​quarters before I was rolling, during most of which time I was paying for my crew. The truck and trailer were fine, except the truck mirrors couldn’t be adjusted, which meant that driving wasn’t too safe. In sum, they needed more staff, they needed to communicate the reservation in their system so that the U-​Boxes were ready as scheduled, and they needed staff with a much higher level of competence in handling the U-​Boxes. Next time I need a truck I’ll probably go elsewhere.

This has been the friendliest location! So easy to pickup and return and no hidden fees. Staff is friendly, informative and helpful!
