I consider myself very lucky to have walked past here while visiting Kailua! I rented a great beach cruiser for the week and was well impressed with the service. Mike is personable, kind and easy to deal with. I HIGHLY recommend renting from him or for any other service you may need.

We have been taking our bikes to Mike at Rusty Chain ever since he began. He is very experienced and always gives the bikes back in great working condition. I recently took my everyday commuter bike to get some much needed tlc and it came out better than when we bought it. Thanks Mike.

Very unprofessional place. I dropped off my bike for a quick tuneup at the beginning of my holiday break. I was told I could pick it up in a few days. I kept going back every three or four days, each time to find it wasn’t done. Then I was told it needed a new part but the problem was so subtle and imperceptible the guy couldn’t duplicate it to show me. When I questioned how much it would be to change the part he said just the cost of the tune up since he had a bin of spare parts. When the bike was finally done weeks later the cost was twice the cost of the tune up.

Best service!!! Owner was extremely nice. No appt. needed, I bought a rusty old beach cruiser that had no chain, back tire was loose off the rim, no grips, just a old bike that needed alot of care. Owner worked with my schedule until I was able to pick up. Great service:)

It’s businesses like this one that is the reason why I love supporting small local businesses, especially in Hawaii. My girl power side came out and wanted to take on fixing 2 flat tires and a rusted over chain, just to prove I can do what the boys can too. But I dropped that as soon as I realized amazon didn’t have tires I needed and that I needed tools found in a toolbox that didn’t exist in my house. So I caved and took my beach cruiser to the doctors.
Originally, I was going to go to the The Bike Shop. They had the tires I needed and were the same price as Rusty Chain Cyclery. But looking at reviews for their shop, it was a toss up. RCC said they would order the tires I needed since they didn’t have the ones I needed in stock, but they said that might not be the problem and that it might just be the inner tube that’s bad. So since they had better reviews and were closer to my house, I took it to them.
They called me right back when they didn’t pick up… within 5 minutes. I told them I had purchased a bike chain online and asked if they could install it for me and take the old one out. They were accommodating and did that for me. I dropped my bike off around 9am and said it would be ready for pick up before they closed that day, which worked out perfect. They figured out that it was actually the inner tube that was the problem, so it was nice that they were completely honest instead of trying to get me to have labor done that didn’t need to be done.
They take credit also. Its a small shop, small retail/​accessories selection though. Service was great and the employees were really nice and helpful. I’ll be taking my bike here for any other problems in the future. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for quick and reliable service.
My bill was only $ 21 for both tubes to be replaces/​repaired and for them to install my new chain. I think it was very well worth it – my girl power can be used to fix other things. Sorry Baby spice! =/

Never going back to the bike shop, owners really cool changed my stroller tires in mins at a great price

At first glance, the somewhat cramped hole-​in-​the-​wall storefront looks a little run down compared to other bike shops in the area, but with that comes a refreshing lack of the pretentiousness and elitism that’s way too common in those higher-​end places.
I came in to trade in my old mountain bike for something better and it was a great experience, especially considering that I’m pretty new to cycling. I told them what I wanted, what my price range was and they helped me pick out a bike that was exactly what I was looking for and even tuned it up for free.
The staff were helpful and didn’t try to convince me that I should buy some high-​tech, high-​speed superbike that costs as much as a new car and screams «steal me» whenever you lock it up, or try to push a bunch of expensive accessories that I didn’t want or need like some other places tried to do.
I’d definitely recommend Rusty Chain for anybody looking to buy a good, used bike and doesn’t want to spend a fortune or deal with endless pitches for a bunch of expensive crap you don’t need.

Absolutely awful! The kept my bike for an extra week because «it slipped through the cracks». Didn’t bother calling me back. I had to call 3 times to follow up with them. Then they overcharged me by $ 10 after not even doing all the work they were supposed to do. I now have to dispute the charge with my cc because they haven’t bothered calling me back. Do yourself a favor and find someplace more professional!

These guys are always super helpful. I’ve had my beach cruiser in there for maintenance a couple times. The always explain whats going on and never charge me extra for simple things.

Went in to fix my broken chain. They gave me a new one, put it on & put air in the tires all in less than 10 minutes! Service was great, quick and efficient. Definitely will be my go to bike shop!

This guy named Mike helped me fix my chain dérailleur with a simple adjustment. What surprised me is he didn’t charge for the fix. Perhaps I shouldn’t say that because he does have a business and like all businesses he’s into making some money. But he said it was simple and just needed a tweak but if I wanted a tune up bring it back in for an appointment. So I bought some tubes from him, considering I needed a spare for the road. That’s the least I could do. Cool place and they seem really laid back with aloha. I don’t write many reviews but this place deserves some recognition.

8 months later I went back and again they were awesome! Had just what I needed and I was in and out in minutes.

I love this place. I rented a Beach Cruiser for a week while staying in nearby Lanikai. One of the locals referred me to this place as having better prices and selection than another slightly more visible competitor. Michael the owner is fantastic. He had a great selection and great prices. He quickly helped me get on a bike that matched my 6 foot frame and adjusted the seat for me. He made sure I had a lock and gave me some tips on where and how to lock and how to keep safe. There was no waiting and the transaction took minutes. Mahalo Michael, you rock bro!

GREAT customer service. Mike set me up with a bike rental that was almost ½ the price compared to other shops. He also offered to help me find a group ride if I didn’t know of any.

A visiting friend and I became determined to bike around the entire island. Alas we do not own road bikes!
The Rusty Chain Cyclery fixed that. Awesome service, great prices, it was an absolute pleasure doing business with these guys. Full of great advice and tips, we felt reassured that we weren’t complete Kooks for attempting to undergo such an adventure, we left heartened and encouraged with two rented road bikes and accompanying gear in tow.
Having completed the 130 Mile complete circumnavigation we were met with smiles and a no hassle return of all our gear which served us faithfully through the potholed roads of Ewa, muck and mud of Kaena Point, and flooded streets of Waimanalo.
I will be back.
