Overall, the food was tasty. The Chicken Katsu was good and fresh, for it was fried in front of us. The Poke Bowls were good, as well, but we could have used more fish in them.

This place is a pretty standard plate lunch type plate. The food is average and predictable which makes this a known entity when you are hungry and looking for something relatively quick and affordable. The garlic chicken is our go-to here. The chicken curry is bland and forgettable. The portions come with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad or salad. The papaya seed dressing for the salad is possibly the highlight of the meal and is highly recommended. The seating here is outside on 5 – 6 tables that fill up quickly depending on the time of day. They have umbrellas to block the sun but don’t expect to stay too dry if it rains.

Very good garlic chicken second time having it and it was amazing the first time as it is the second I don’t understand the bad reviews on this place would definitely recommend a large platter of garlic chicken for any event you were having it’s really good even heated up later

Great location. Right in the heart of Kailua. But, I will never come here again. The food was very mediocre & a $ 10 plate was tiny. I hate being so negative but the chicken was very hard, difficult to chew.

Well despite some questionable reviews I decided to try this place anyway. I got the garlic chicken which came with white rice and Mac and cheese. The rice was the only good part and the birds enjoyed it very much. The chicken, while it had a nice flavor was very bad cuts of meat. It was not good chicken at all and I hardly at any. The staff was not friendly and my friend ordered something that had to be cooked back in the kitchen but they didn’t bother to tell him anything and he kept asking as they put up other trays of food of any were his. Finally 15 minutes later he got his food. All in all not good and would not go back here.

Portions are good, food is also really good(though not a huge fan of the mac salad here), and they’re centrally located in Kailua. Fairly typical plate lunch prices, but you definitely get a fair amount of food for your money, which is always something to look for here in Hawaii.

Shouldn’t even get a star at all. The girl behind the counter was extremely rude and had a horrible attitude. Customer Service here sucks and I will never return. Not to mention the Meat Jun came with like 5 small itty bitty pieces!

This place is always pretty popular during the lunch and after school hours. So be prepared for a little bit of a wait. The food here is worth the wait especially the Garlic Chicken. It has been consistently good for at least 8 years. Crispy garlicky and bursting with savory flavor. A mini plate is enough for one meal, but go for the full plate lunch if you want leftovers(hint you want leftovers). The salad dressing is fantastic but whenever I’m home I’m eating as much Mac Salad as possible.

We should be able to put no stars or a negative star! That’s the only reason I have one star on. Sick and tired of standing in line with the slowest service you can get and only when I get to the counter am told that they only have brown rice. WTF!!! This was the third time I had this happened to me. A plate lunch place that keeps running out of white rice!!! The other man in front of me said that was the worst service he ever had, too. Ever heard of putting up a sign that tells people you don’t have rice so that we don’t waste our time waiting for so long?! Better yet, HOWCANYOURUNOUTOFRICE!!! Ever since the woman went on maternity, the service SUCKS!!! Get her back!

One word: ONO!!! I was at work and craved a small snack… my coworker suggested I got to Fatboys for their garlic chicken! I haven’t been to Fatboy’s before, and my first time was AWESOME! I called in my order so I just had to pick it up. Within five minutes, my order was ready! Super cheap too! I paid $ 10.23 for two garlic chicken bentos! Totally worth it, money well spent. 10⁄10 recommend this place to anyone that LOVES garlic chicken. They also have a variety of other items on their menu as well! Best local place to eat in Kailua!

Best garlic chicken on the island!!! I don’t even like garlic but this chicken is soooo flavorfullll! This is my go-to place when I come to Kailua. I usually get one of the mini bentos. The perfect amount for before or after the beach. Tryyyy it!

We went to Fatboy’s in Kailua and ordered the Fatboy’s Bento & Ali’i Bento. We were very disappointed. The food tasted awful! Furikake Salmon was dry, Garlic Chicken wasn’t tasty at all. It was terrible! I still have a sour aftertaste. Never again! We both agreed that we’ll stick to St. Louis Drive In even though it’s farther away from the Windward side. . Also, the girl behind the counter was very unfriendly. Very bad PR!!!

I can always count on Fatboys for consistently good food. The Garlic Chicken is always amazing. Good sevice. The food comes out quickly. I would like to see more healthy options on the menu. But I guess I could just go somewhere else if I’m looking for a healthier option.

I’m feeling a bit conflicted here. On one hand: –Garlic chicken is always good –Prices & portions are really good –I almost always grab lunch here when I’m in Kailua On the other hand: –I always feel like I’m intruding when I walk in for some reason –Workers never seem cheery –Other food can be inconsistent At this Fatboy’s location, I always order the garlic chicken. I strayed away once at another location, and it was a mistake, so I figure I stick to what they’re known for. It seems like between this visit and my last, they changed the garlic chicken a bit? Still good, though. If you get the regular size plate, it’s 8.99, and you get a ton of the garlic chicken. It comes with two scoops of rice and a scoop of mac or tossed salad. Definitely winners. Great price for great portions. However, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a single smile from the workers there. Sometimes they just seem grumpy, or unhappy to be there. On my most recent visit, the woman working the front was talking to someone else on her bluetooth, and was taking my order by mouthing«mac or toss» and my total to me, because someone on the phone was more important than the customer? Idk. Unprofessional, if you ask me… Whatevaz. Sometimes the rice is hard, and that is a super pet peeve for me. I am one for wet rice, and I absolutely cannot stand when I pay for rice from an establishment and it is dry or overcooked. Big no-no. I’m always looking forward to stopping by Fatboy’s for lunch, but always find myself hoping that the food isn’t of poor quality. Am I weird? I guess there are good things that I’ll keep coming back to Fatboy’s for, as the bad things are tolerable enough to overlook.

Lousy service. The cashier said there was no bathroom but another customer said there is one in the back of the building. Then the cashier said she had no key and blamed it on her customers that don’t return the keys. Also I sat outside and waited for my food and she didn’t even notify me that the food is ready. She just placed it on the counter. It wasn’t. Even busy.

When I worked in town Fatboy’s was the bomb. Super generous portions and tasty grinds, especially the garlic chicken. I got back on island after 10 years away and I made a beeline to the Fatboy’s in Kailua that didnt exist when I left(goodbye Waffle Dog!) The GC plate is now $ 9.50(ok times have changed). The portion now barely fills the big section and the checkout lady gives me stinkeye because I didnt tip her. For what? She showed no aloha with the chicken tongs. The GC had no noticeable garlic taste at all and was soggy vs crispy. I realize Kailua is going bourgeois but at least keep something authentically local like a decent plate lunch with flavor and too much food. Sorry FB I cannot recommend your Kailua store for local grinds. Keep them bacon cheeseburgers coming for the tourists. It is your future.

Ordered a bento plate. Garlic chicken is pretty good but the rest of the bento was pretty awful. Especially the dried out piece of fried fish that was in it. Go somewhere else unless your really hungry or really broke.

#firsttimer Ordered the Fatboy Bento Box — which included Garlic chicken, teriyaki beef, fried fish, hot dog, spam for only $ 7.99. Garlic chicken = BESTONEEVER. Meat was tender and flavor was on point. I think this is the best meat out of the whole bento. #myfavorite Teriyaki beef was my second favorite. Sweet and flavorful too. Hot dog looked like filipino hotdog, but didn’t taste like it.(a little disappointing) Spam = who doesn’t love spam. Fried Fish was good too but not memorable. It had the perfect crunch to it. Overall: Affordable, especially for all the selections you get. GARLIC. CHICKEN. ON. POINT. Get best of all worlds with all the selections. Will come back and try other stuff, maybe the loco moco and the poke when I come back to the island.
