Visited in 2008, I have nothing bad to say! The happy hour prices were great, the beverages cold and the wasabi hot. I found my FAVORITE roll here! I I am forever trying to find a duplicate locally! I hope the location is still there in our next visit to the islands! **PLEASE note: If your husband challenges you to eat wasabi straight… be sure you have a full frosty beverage in hand. I will never forget Sushi En Fuego tasty roll or the Wasabi incident.

I don’t know how come people gave Sushi En Fuego such low ratings. I didn’t mind the cheesyness going on there(go figure since we were tourist) or maybe we just came here on a good night. Our party was seated outside on the deck overlooking the water. Forgot what we ordered but everything was good. We liked their ceviche plates the best. I had to dock a star cuz I think I ate something I was allergic too because the next day I was walking around the islands with a lower fat lip haha. it was worth it.

Nothing like a horrible server with attitude to make me wanna walk out of the joint. I was in town planning/coordinating m cousin’s wedding. Three came with me to this spot. We had a round of shots, including a pitcher of sangria. Eh. There wasn’t much on the menu and I really wanted a sake handroll. The server asked«What’s that?» UHm… it can be done. They have sake nigiri on there. He refused to even ask the kitchen to do it and as if I was wasting his time. I wanted to walk out, but I didn’t want to make people starve.

Sushi En Fuego is located on the second level of a shopping complex, it has a high balcony with a large patio right on the edge of the water, with an excellent view of the ocean. «En Fuego» can be translated as «on fire», or it could be something more analogous to «in Hell». We joked that it must mean a «Disco Inferno» and that the hellish part was having to listen to the Bee-Gee’s and other early disco acts which were the constant music in the bar. Kind of cheesy sushi-bar concept which caters to tourists. Keep your expectations reasonable and you won’t be disappointed. Not especially recommended. Two stars, with a third star for the ocean location.

I didn’t come for the fusion as much as I did just craving some good Sushi(living in Chicago, «fresh fish» is as much of an oxymoron as «honest politician»). They didn’t let us down. Ordered some rolls(Volcano Roll was one) and a Sashimi platter. Both were delicious, plus it was fun trying some some different fish, Kampachi and Ona are not offerings I see that often. I noticed many sub-par reviews so your mileage may definitely vary. I will note is was almost dead the night we were there(a Sunday) so the food may suffer when they are in a rush. Even then it took a while for our food to be delivered and I was disappointed to have the Sashimi delivered at least 20 minutes after the rolls. Our server was very attentive. Good food, good service, slow kitchen. Worth a solid 3 to 3.5 stars. I’d go back.

The delicate flavors of sushi, with the elegance of nachos. I’ve determined that Mayonnaise is the Ranch Dressing of whitewashed Sushi. The sushi is very similar to the California Rock N Sushi chain. I’ve had fusion sushi, even Latin-fusion Sushi, and it can be adventurously delicious; if done well. However, the skill level is more like a drunken monkey here. They layer on a behemoth amount of Mayonnaise on some of the Sushi that we ordered. There is no real delicacy or precision of flavor here; more like blasting numbness of fast food. Well, at least I was on the Boardwalk with a nice view. Bastardized sushi, but a nice view.

My husband and I decided to try this place on a whim for lunch, but we weren’t really having high hopes for the place since it looked more like a bar than a restuarant. When we saw that it was fusion, I was little skeptical. I am not really into fusion food and had the mindset that it wasn’t going to be traditional sushi. We ordered a Philadephia roll and a Fish and Chip wrap. The philadephia roll had the usual cream cheese and salmon, but they also added some cucumber and sprouts. It sounds weird, but it was great! The veggies actually cut the creaminess of the cream cheese. The Fish and Chip wrap was awesome. It had a fried fish fillet, potato chips, and lettuce, all contained in a soy wrap. It was cut three ways and laid on a plate of both chili and tomatillo sauce. You got the salty, sweetness from both the sauces. And, since the wrap was soy, all you got was the crunchy taste of the fish, chips, and lettuce. If they had used a tortilla, it would have felt heavy.

We stopped here for a quick bite to eat after our arrival to the Big Island. I was a little hesitant because of the reviews we had read before, but ended up pleasantly surprised. We only had appetizers, but I found the food interesting and inventive. I particularly enjoyed the Tuna Tostanos — a great treat for the senses. The mai tais were decent — great price for happy hour. The view was great and the service was good.

Sorry, but I like real sushi. This place reminds me of California Rock & Roll Sushi in Honolulu, which I’m not a big fan of. It is extremely rare that fusion works, and hey, it just simply failed miserably in that department. Couple of friends suggested this place, «Sushi, but with a Latin twist.» Ha! The joke was on me! Even if the food wasn’t good, I am glad I got to try it, because now I get to tell people how I really feel about it! Didn’t care for the Volcano roll($ 11.95). This was the dish I was told to try. «Ahi, cucumber & avocado topped with spicy scallop magma». This is basically spicy mayo(hold the scallop) on a roll. I am not a big mayonaise fan, but even after I scraped all of that«magma» off, I still wanted to at least see how far I could throw it off the pier. Hated their Juan Sanchez roll(cost more). «Plantains, chipotle shrimp & green beans topped with ahi and chipotle aioli». They should have called this More Mayo Please. It was doused w/mayo and all of these bonito flakes. Lord knows why. I couldn’t find any plantains or green beens, even after digging them out of the rubble. I basically just dug out the fish and ate that since the dish cost so dang much. The Kona humidity didn’t help either, but at least the beer I had was satisfactory.

We went here looking for some good drinks and a light mid-afternoon lunch, and found exactly what we wanted. I had been disappointed by most of the drinks I’d had at other places– it shouldn’t be that hard to find a good tropical drink in Hawaii that doesn’t taste like it came right out of a mix package, right? We accidentally arrived during happy hour, and that brought the final bill down quite a bit. I had an excellent drink made with peach purée, and the happy hour mai tai was pretty good as well. We ordered a range of sushi rolls, all of which were good, and also tried their happy hour tacos, which were a nice snack. If you’re looking for some great cocktails with a nice view of the water, this is the place to go.

I came here with about 20 of my friends on my last night in Kona. If you want to find parking we found some in a nearby lot across the street from the restaurant. Anyways, we ordered a lot of appetizers which were pretty good. But once I got to the main course I was disappointed. I didn’t know that all of the main courses were sushi! I know that may sound kind of stupid since it’s called sushi en fuego. hahaha… lol But, when I ordered a dish that was called something with«meat» in the title I thought I was going to be getting meat. But they came out with sushi with raw Meat on top of it! I took one bite and decided to pass it around the table to see if anyone else wanted to try it. I passed it around and it came back to me with no one even trying it… probably because they saw my expression when i ate it! it was kind of like this emoticon… :O But the nice thing about it was that the ambiance was very nice. It was right by the ocean and there was a man that was playing the ukulele/singing all night for us. The service was quick and efficient. I just wish the main courses were a little better.

Delicious sushi! Who doesn’t love a fusion restaurant? We made table reservations on the lovely deck. With waves crashing in the background, we enjoyed our dining experience. We had: –Ahi Poke –Pinapple Ribs –Volcano Roll –Flaming Blossom –Tempura Roll It was all melt in your mouth and we washed it down with yummy cocktails. I enjoyed the Beachy Peachy.

This one of the best restaurants we have been to in Kailua Kona. The sushi and fusion dishes are delectable, the fancy martinis are a blast(especially during happy hours when they are $ 7) and the view is spectacular. This place reminds me of Sansei in Maui — a great hip infusion for Kona.

First Impression: In walks party of two. 3 young waiters look, stumble-fumble-mumble, and says«someone will be with you shortly» two minutes later with a room full of open tables. Service: Not there. Edamame came out last — what were you doing, picking them from the garden during our meal? Food: Went for the tapas menu. Really wanted potatoes, and only thing available was En Fuego Potato(okay). Lomi lomi(okay, interesting…) came out looking like a ceviche in a martini glass. Miso duck(yum! 4.5) was the only good thing; the sunomono on the side was a mismatch. Last of all, edamame was too salty. Tea was odd… genmai-cha with green tea mixed in? Décor was whack(like they threw a whole bunch of stuff together). Sort of hotel-ish but with random curtains/drapes to decorate the walls. Seating is available inside or on patio(again, mix match furniture). I realize they’re fusion, but they should at least look good as a whole. Reasons to Go: Right by Hooters. It’s now raining and other eateries are Bubba Gump’s or Bad Ass Coffee Company below serving bagels. So 3–

I want to give this place more stars because the view and the food were amazing. BUT the service was horrible, ok maybe not you want to kill the staff horrible, but almost. We invited our soon to be married bride and groom out to dinner on our first night in Kona to Sushi En Fuego. When we arrived there was pure confusion on where and when to seat us. Once seated we asked for water seriously like 10 times, and each waitress said sure but nothing happened. Drinks came minutes after some of the food was being served, always a no no. Now the food, the Tempura Spicy Tuna Mushrooms rocked. My friends loved the Beef Reef roll, the macadamia roll which I don’t recall the exact name was amazing. Nigiri, it wasn’t served cold which is a bit strange but the Ono was like butter. I think what really got us was how every roll had bonito flakes on it. 1 roll, 2 rolls, but all of them, just a bit much. The service didn’t get better, but we really couldn’t complain by the end since we were full, with our friends, on the ocean and off to a great start on our vacation. Would I go back? Well there are a few other sushi bars in town so I would have to say no until I tried the others.
