Super clean place. The wait staff was awesome! The food was excellent! We came here on a Saturday night and had no wait to be seated. We ordered the crab Rangoon, orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, fried rice and cake noodles. Will definitely come back here again!

My husband and I came here for dinner on a Friday night and it wasn’t too busy so we got seated right away. We ordered the Mongolian pork and Singapore fried noodles and both dishes were delicious. Rice is extra but no big deal. The service was excellent and we left very satisfied. We would definitely come again when we are craving Chinese food.

The special was for Sizzling Beef and it was delicious. Be careful everything is ala carte but the food is incredible. The beef was tender and could be cut with a fork, the steamed rice was cooked perfectly. Beware the iced tea, it has a funny taste and isn’t a good quality tea brewed fresh. I would eat there again, but not have the iced tea.

Went for lunch we had the hot and sour soup which was very good and hearty, then we followed with pot stickers they were tasty but I like mine more doughy but still quite tasty, then we had the hong kong fish which was fabulous and a small bowl of white rice and jasmine tea. This rather small lunch ended up costing me 54 dollars with tip that is a bit excessive. Overall I may go back since we now own a condo in Kailua kona I will give it a few more tries. Btw the hot ready to go dishes did not look tasty at all so we chose to order off the menu.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. And I’m not normally overly critical of places enough to register my disgust and disappointment for the world to see. But here goes… The orange chicken I ordered certainly did not taste like any chicken I’ve ever had in my life. The sauce had a very strange aftertaste, much like cleaning solution. I tried two bites and had to push it aside. My wife also took a few bites of this dish to make sure I wasn’t imagining things, and she was visibly disturbed at what she ate. We also ordered Mongolian chicken, which was the most flavorless dish I’ve ever tasted. Having ACTUAL cleaning solution on the dish might have helped it a bit. The only redeeming quality that I could give the restaurant for their 1 star rating is when the server had noticed we had a plate full of orange chicken and we explained what we encountered, they removed it from our tab. We still walked out paying close to $ 30 after tip for something that I wouldn’t feed to my dog, cat, a homeless person, or my worst enemy. Avoid at all costs. Overpriced, terrible quality of food, and you will regret it. Also of note, my wife threw up about 20 minutes after we left the restaurant. Blame it on the orange chicken.

So, we were looking for basic Chinese food. Really didn’t set the bar too high. This place was ‘ok’. Just like the description for 2 stars — ‘Meh. I’ve experienced better’ summed it up perfectly.

After a trip down South and coming up through Old Kona, we were deciding where to eat and wanted a sit down place. My aunt suggested this restaurant because it was really good that last time she came(which she mentioned was years ago). Should NOT have gone there. The menu items were very expensive and small portions. I understand that it was true Chinese style with the round swirling table in the center to share, but the again the portions were too small to share. So we decided instead of wasting over $ 50 for us not to even be satisfied, we chose the option of having 2-choice plates from the steam table for $ 11 each. The choices at the steam table were minimal and very distasteful with no flavor at all. Each variety of chicken looked and tasted very dry and the other«options» we had were horrible as well. We were literally picking from our plates. Definitely was not satisfied from eating. Overall, what a waste of money and time. It was such a HUGEDISAPPOINTMENT and we will never go back here again.

The worst food I’ve ever ate! The chicken wasn’t real chicken at all, maybe some other animal and the taste was horrible! We ordered 3 items, took a single bite out of each dish, payed for our«dinner» and left. I’m still in shock that people actually eat here. I’m not one to write bad reviews, but this is the worst food I’ve ever eaten and the worst service I’ve ever received. Do yourself a favor and try some other place.

Not sure why people don’t like this place. Food was well prepared, and service was great. Super friendly with a lot of locals streaming in. We had the duck, char shu pork, orange chicken, noodles and more. all really good. I think it is the only sit down Chinese restaurant in Kona, and if you speak spanish… go there. so does the general manager. All staff were super friendly… very Aloha. We spent $ 60 for a party of four, and way over ordered. All of us had food left… you had to roll me out of that place.

I have been a resident for over 25 years & never felt so ripped off! I wanted to order a fresh quart of Orange Chicken! Which they said they would cook it in the back! The younger man speaking in Chinese must have told the gal to take it off the buffet already made line! He looked at me & said«it’s the same thing»! It cost me nearly $ 18! Ridiculous! I could have ordered 2 plates of 3 choices for the same amount & come out ahead! Will never go back!

Decided to get some food to go from the steam table and sit outside. The chow mien was so-so, with very thin noodles. Liked the self serve chili sauce and hot mustard. The orange chicken was more«orange» than most places, which is good. However, the beef with broccoli had one piece, yes one piece of beef. One. Plenty of excellent broccoli but one piece of beef is unacceptable. And of course one small scoop of each entrée is a paltry amount for the price.

No hand towels, I told the waitress and she brushed me off like it was no big deal. She was very rude. The food was horrible. The meat tasted«gamey» and it was served cold. We had to return the food and walk out. I never bash on places but after the treatment I received and the food everyone should know. I ordered the Orange Chicken and General TSO chicken. Maybe others will have better luck with a different waitress and different dishes.

Excellent authentic Cantonese food. Not Americanized versions of chinese food like Panda Express. Large portions. Well seasoned. Staff friendly and efficient.

Never coming back to this place. Food is very small portions that is way over priced, along with tables being set up with dirty forks on tables. We were also served water that had what looked to be old rice floating in the water. Everyone around us was served their drinks even though we ordered our beers before the new guests walked in. Like I said very poor service and what a huge disappointment with the food. If you’re looking for good Chinese food with portions matching their prices then this place would not be for you!

I don’t know why some people don’t like this place. I personally think this is a great place with very authentic Chinese food! Not those American Chinese food. Would definitely come back again. The waiters and waitresses are very friendly.

I’ve been going to RJG for the past 20 years. Ever since they’ve opened their doors i’ve been eating here. I use to work in the Lanihau Center and for lunch or dinner i’d always order take-out. They are not skimpy at all, they always give more than i can eat! I would take my friends there too or order them take-out as well so we can all have lunch or dinner together. 21 years later i am still going there on occasion. Not as often as i don’t burn calories like I use to so need to watch my physique. I now take my wife and kids there and as usual they give alot of food! My wife loves the Tofu vegetable soup. i don’t eat this as much as i use to but i love their roast pork! Especially when the skin is crunchy! I order this every so often. Consistency has always been the same… although at one point it changed a little then quicky found its way back. If anyone asks me where’s a good chinese restuarant RJG is always my first choice even if their are several others here in K-town. Definatly enjoy their food you might too. Double shaka rating for me.

For the Big Island, this was pretty good. For mainland fare, it would be 3 stars. Salt& pepper pork ribs were flavorful, small pieces. Wor Won Soup was very Cantonese-style and hearty. Char Sui fried rice, BBQ pork was mince cut on the greasy side. Beef Chow Fun with plentiful veggies — cabbage, bean sprouts, onions, also on salty side but not bad. Chow Fun is very limited on the island, so being that I needed a Chinese fix, it met the need. Grateful for the Chinese Restaurant on West Hawaii.

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise for us. We ventured into Kona during our stay at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, and we had a craving for reasonably priced food(not available at the Hilton), with more vegetables than one is accustomed to getting when staying in a resort. I glanced at Unilocal reviews of this place and led my family here(and felt like a hero afterward). The first night we ordered sweet and sour pork(a kid’s favorite), garlic bok choy(one of my favorites), fried rice, and shrimp with Chinese peas. We enjoyed our dinner so much, we returned two nights later, and ordered some different dishes, which were pretty good. Now, this is not a «gourmet» type Chinese restaurant. But the servers were very friendly, and we noticed quite a few local families dining there, who must be regulars, as the servers seemed to know them. So, for good, basic local-style Chinese food at a decent price point, this is the place to be!

Correct address is 75 – 5595 Palani Rd, Kailua, HI96740. This place is probably the only restaurant that I know of that serves some authentic Chinese food within the Kailua Kona area. They do have some Americanized dishes like chow mein but this review will be geared towards the authentic stuff. I’ll say this now, it won’t beat San Francisco but it does a pretty good job. A few items like spareribs, honey walnut shrimp, and lettuce wrap pork tasted similar to the mainland. Gramps and grandma gave their seal of approval so I will give mine. ** The waiter speaks Cantonese so that was a bonus to the Chinese speakers. Also, he looked like John Cho(Harold & Kumar) which was hilarious.
