Palm Terrace

I believe they call this the «North Shore Kula Grille» now but either way, it’s the same place, just touched up a bit. We had the buffet breakfast every morning, as it was included in our package and it was fantastic. Great variety, great food, made to order omelets, treats etc. The service was also exceptional, especially Annie, who was always giving us tips and hints.

Really bad buffet breakfast. Inedible hash browns. Seriously. French toast was the same. Wait staff was wonderful, but the food was so bad. Don’t waste your money, time or the calories.

My friend and I came here for a long, relaxing breakfast while waiting out the summer rain to go back out to the pool.
Most importantly, the food was pretty delicious. My friend and I had the breakfast buffet, and at $ 26/​person, you better make this meal last most of the day. That price is okay, but it’s really expensive for breakfast.
As noted in the other reviews, there was an omelette station, which I am not to enamored with, because most buffets have omelette stations. The omelettes were delicious, though, and the chef behind the skillet is a machine and does a fantastic job with the crowd. Yes, there was a bit of a brief wait, but when things are made to order… that is the nature of the beast. I love the pastries — sticky buns topped with macadamia nuts, doughnuts, and croissants. Guava jelly along with your regular jellies and butter to eat up with your pastries and toast are provided. I love the Belgian waffles and the whipped cream, crisp bacon, breakfast sausages, and oatmeal bar.
Fresh juice is always a plus, as well.
The restaurant is pretty with kind of a peachy pink color all around and tall windows all over one side of the restaurant that look over the pools, palm trees, resort grounds, and ocean. You could tell that the restaurant is a bit dilapidated, though, from the worn booth seats, chairs, tables, carpet, and not-​so-​new paint. I chalked it up to North Shore charm, since Turtle Bay is supposed to be one of the oldest resorts on Oahu.
The service was all right, but there were dirty coffee cups at our table when we arrived and a water glass with lipstick stains. I was not impressed. I get that it was 10 am on a Saturday morning and they were busy, but come on… that was so gross. Our server was pretty fast on coffee refills and checking up on us, so that was nice.
All in all, I had a pretty good time here, and I would have breakfast here again — but I would double-​check all the flatware, glasses, and everything for cleanliness before I sat down.

This place is just ok. I wouldn’t pay for the buffet again. I personally didn’t enjoy much of the food. The omelette station is the BEST part of the breakfast. Too bad there’s only ONE person there (on a weekend mind you) making omelettes for people AND making waffles. We were third in line, and the poor lady was all by herself trying to do everything. All her burners ran out of fluid so she had to run to the back, she was grabbing the omelette fixins with her BARE hands, after just grabbing the fluid, after just washing a pan, etc. In short, it took like 20 minutes for us to get our omlettes. Do this girl a favor turtle bay, and get staffed! Good lord she was burning waffles while trying to make omelettes, while keeping the burner on in the back to make boiled eggs. sheesh!
The fresh fruit was delicious, the view was awesome. The breakfast potatoes had NO taste. The bacon was SOAKED in oil and the sausage had no flavor. Besides the omelette and the fruit, I pretty much was not impressed.
In short, decent, nothing major to complain about, but the quality of food is not that good.

Great omelets during the breakfast buffet. Good selection of fresh fruit and Asian specialties. We got breakfast comped with our stay and it was definitely a worthwhile addition.

I’m just not sure how much more people want for a $ 26 breakfast buffet at a Hawaiian resort. Lots of fresh fruit: watermelon, mango, pineapple, etc. Full continental bar with pastries, bagels, lox, cereal. A hot bar with all the usuals including eggs (boiled and scrambled), belgian waffles, hash browns, bacon, and white rice. An omellette station manned by a very nice chef, and super friendly service.
The view is breathtaking – it almost feels like youre looking at a postcard. And kids are half price, so thats pretty much the best kids deal at the resort.

They also have ala carte but a bowl of oatmeal was $ 7.50, so you can gauge how much everything else would be from there.
Omelette station was really good, but never had too much meat otherwise for the hot foods. They had Smoked salmon which you an put on bagels which was really good too.
You have to expect to pay these kinds of prices for everyday things here since it is Turtle Bay which supposed to be a première hotel (review to come). The service was really good, good at taking the plates away and bringing water and coffee.

Worst service ever for breakfast.

We went here for breakfast but didn’t engage with the buffet. Feel the restraint? I had a classic three egg omelet which was just fine. My husband something to the tune of a crab and shrimp eggs Benedict which he said was incredible. I’m adding and extra star for service, our waitress was so very sweet!

Bleh. Just a heads up that I am pretty biased toward buffets. For some reason seeing large amounts of food at one time automatically turns me off but we were at Turtle Bay so not many choices. My mom made reservations about an hour earlier and when we got there the hostesses sat us pretty quickly. Had a nice table in the corner near a window. My husband and I and my parents had the buffet. My niece and nephew order a hot dog from the kids menu. It came with fries and gourmet ketchup and mustard in individual jars. Our buffet food was so-​so. I had prime rib and of course someone already took the burnt end so I had to suffer eating a little bit bloody piece. Dessert spread was pretty big. The food overall was okay. I don’t think I would pay for that buffet again. Probably hit up the Ola restaurant instead.

Breakfast buffet is okay, but they don’t have portuguese sausage in the buffet line. I asked for some on the side and it smelled like it was going bad… ewww. The service is pretty non existent, but what are you going to do at a hotel resort? The omelet station is pretty great, fresh fruit is nice, and the pastry/​bread selection isn’t bad. Otherwise it’s just like any other breakfast buffet. Nothing special, but not terrible either. I just hope next time the have fresh portuguese sausage.

went here for breakfast… order from the menu, $ 15pp continental breakfast or go for the breakfast buffet for $ 25pp. HOW much can i really eat for breakfast?
As it was $ 14 for the salmon lox bagel alone, I guess i’ll do the continental breakfast and so we both got it. got myself tons of awesome and sweet fruits with some oats and slices of banana nut bread and a croissant and i was already full. he ate a bit more than me and made it worth $ 15pp. nice spread of food but nothing that stood out on the selection provided.
service was great though. nicest bunch of ppl working here.

Breakfast buffet is a little pricey but totally worth it. $ 25 gets you all you can eat from a wide selection including staples like eggs, waffles and pancakes, to the interesting (e.g., quiche, miso soup, and traditional Hawaiian fare).

Buffets are not my favorite thing in the world.
I prefer quality over quantity.
My hungrier half, not so much.
That being said, the Palm Terrace is not a bad value when you consider it against the average hotel buffet – or the average hotel meal!
We’ve been here for breakfast several time because we are big breakfast nuts. And we recently went for the Saturday night Prime Rib and Seafood buffet also.
If you have an Escape Club membership ($ 219 annually, but worth every penny), you get $ 5 off two people at the buffet (an ongoing benefit). So it works out nicely for us.
I’m a sucker for variety and that’s where I get my value out of the buffets. I’d never be able to order bacon, eggs, rice, strawberry belgian waffles, papaya, and POG juice for under $ 20. My hungrier half can easily eat $ 20 worth of breakfast, lunch, or dinner anywhere. Part Chinese, he always feels the need to get his «money’s worth.» Not that there’s anything wrong with that! Heck, he gets my money’s worth too!
Saturday night’s buffet consists of a really tasty prime rib (ask them to dip it in the au jus) and Alaskan king crab legs. Nuff sed. We did our damage here. I have this stupid weakness for potatoes au gratin and probably ate $ 15 worth of that alone. Desserts include a yummy carrot cake, dream cake, and bread pudding… among other things.
Service is good as it is everywhere else in this hotel.
We’ll definitely be back for more…

We dined at Palm Terrace three times during our stay at Turtle Bay. Each time we were impressed with the quality service we received. Our beverages were always kept full.
Meal 1. Breakfast
I had the Belgian waffles with fresh strawberries and macadamia nut butter. Actually, it was one waffle. For $ 12.75, I was a bit underwhelmed with the amount of food I received. However, since we’d been eating massive meals on our trip, I really didn’t need much more than that. My husband ordered the classic three-​egg omelet with everything but mushrooms. When his meal arrived, they had included the mushrooms. The server apologetically corrected the problem immediately. His meal seemed a better value, including hash browns and toast for $ 13.75. There is a breakfast buffet available but I can’t ever imagine consuming enough breakfast to be worth $ 24 per person… Also, watch out for beverage prices.
Meal 2. Dinner
We were hungry enough to indulge in the dinner buffet for $ 30 per person. This included a small salad bar, pasta salad, green bean salad and rolls. There were several hot entrees to choose from. The crusted snapper with remoulade was simply AMAZING. The mashed potatoes and green bean casserole were FABULOUS. A gourmet spin on home-​cooking. Fresh pineapple is always a plus. There was also a good variety of yummy desserts available. The buffet was similar in price to many of the dinner entrees (unless you get a sandwich). On weekends, they have additional selections, such as all you can eat crab legs, but the buffet is also more expensive then.
Meal 3. Breakfast
This day I had 2 eggs, choice of meat, hash browns and toast for $ 13.50. Tasty and filling. I felt this was a better value than the Belgian waffle. My husband indulged in steak and eggs, hash browns and toast for $ 19 and he wasn’t disappointed.
Overall, good food. Resort prices. Some meals are a better value than others. Great view of the bay.

The Palm Terrace is the «for the masses» restaurant at the Turtle Bay Resort. Just about everyone goes there for the buffet breakfast.
For $ 25 a person, we expected more. They have a make your own omelet section, which is a nice idea, but the omelets were just ok. The waffles were dry and hard. There are lots of breakfast pastries and breads and muffins but no way to tell what each of them are. The potatoes were awful. The crepes were mushy. The fresh fruit was good, for the most part. The bacon was just ok and the sausage, which was supposed to be chicken apple sausage (which I love), tasted nothing like that and wasn’t very good.
The good parts? Coconut syrup. Amazing. The granola with nuts and dried fruit was incredible. And the whipped cream was homemade and quite good.
Also, if you go here, DEFINITELY sit outside on the terrace. Beautiful views of the pool and the ocean and the mountain.
But that was really it. A long wait and quite expensive… not cool.
We came back here twice more. First, another breakfast– we ordered off the menu instead of the buffet. I got the French Toast and my husband got the Macadamia Nut Pancakes. The pancakes were dry and barely had any nuts in them. The french toast was SO eggy, it was more like eating scrambled eggs than french toast. Gross gross gross. There was supposed to be macadamia nut butter, but it was just normal.
The other time was for the lunch buffet. Compared to the breakfast rush, there was NO ONE here for lunch. Which was actually unfortunate, because the food had been sitting there for a while and wasn’t changed out at all. They had a beef thing that was ok, orange chicken, which would have been great, except that the chicken was way too fatty, the mac and cheese was really bland, they had a fish filet which would have been good, except they were so old and dried out. They have a salad and sandwich bar which was just basically what you’d expect. The meat was nothing special; the tuna was plain. I liked the Italian dressing, and that they had sprouts. They have bags of chips, which was nice because we took some with us for the plane.
They have a huge selection of desserts that look amazing, but none really impressed. The pear tart was made with mushy, canned pears. The brownie was nothing special, the cannoli and cream puff were just alright, and the macadamia nut cookies were a bit stale. Those were the most disappointing because they should have been better here (i.e. Hawai’i) than from anywhere! But they weren’t.
Overall… yeah, don’t do it. The food isn’t that good and it is too expensive.

We were here for a wedding at Turtle Bay Resort, and we all met up to have a dinner here (located in the resort) and decided to have the dinner buffet here rather than ordering things off the menu. The buffet had a lot of variety, including typical Hawaiian fare such as: laulau, pork, poke, etc. They also had prime rib, fish, chicken, a variety of salads and veggies, and fantastic selection of desserts. We all enjoyed it and it was quite delicious!
Service was fantastic and we were all seated right away. In fact we originally were just sitting and talking for a while before we even decided to eat there. It’s a very intimate setting, and they had a live music while we were eating. Food was very fresh and the service friendly!

Ok, I’m giving this place 5 stars, partially to make up some of the crotcheteyness of other Unilocalers here, give me a break! (in all honesty, its a 4-​star experience)
This place was really good, I was hesitant to go here just based on the reviews, but I figured we’d give it a chance.
They had a nice buffet which looked good, but we decided to skip that and just order off the menu which was really nice.
They had lots of seafood options and other «americana» type of fare. My wife got the half baby back ribs, it was very good! I smoke my own at home, so I’m hard to please, the sauce was good (tasted home made to me, not «Kraft» like this other lady is saying), the cole slaw was some of the BEST I’ve ever had (I’d love the recipie!) and it also came with mashed sweet potatoes which were delicious as well!
I got the Kobe burger which was a good burger, it was fine, I ate it w/​o the bun to keep the carbs down. We each got a cocktail, meal was $ 55 w/​o tip, completely reasonable considering we were literally sitting above the beach looking out over the North Shore.
Service was excellent, and there was no wait, we tried to eat at Ola’s first and they wouldn’t even quote a wait time, you basically needed a reservation which we didn’t have.
I definitely recommend Palm Terrace for anyone staying here at Turtle bay, its not nearly like what some of these other curmudgeons have posted, we had a very nice dining experience there.

We came to Turtle Bay Resort for a 3 day marriage conference… we ate here for breakfast twice, lunch one day and dinner the other… we had a great experience all the way through. The waitress we had was wonderful, very friends, lots of smiles and most all of them always made the extra effort to figure out if we wanted to order from the menu or eat the buffet… AND…brought out 2 to-​go coffees (without us asking) because she knew we were in a rush for our conference.
The view is amazing also. You can sit outside, listen and watch the waves crash or sit inside by large windows and just admire God’s creation… breathtaking. oh! anyway… I had the eggs benedict one morning. it was awesome… exactly how it should taste… the next morning we had the continental breakfast buffet… about $ 14 I think… THAT was awesome… what a variety of things… of course, my husband and I attacked the smoked salmon which we placed on a toasted bagel, topped with green onions, chopped tomatoes, green onions and of course, CAPERS! YuMmmm-​EEEeee! Just that in itself was worth every penny. We also shared a huge Kobe burger with garlic fried… great taste. I DEFINITELY will come back to eat here and would highly recommend it.

This is one of the more «basic-​er» of the restaurants in the Turtle Bay Resort. Went here a couple of times for breakfast. The breakfast buffet is like $ 24, so my frugalness (cheap-​a$$) took over here, and I went for a bagel & coffee for breakfast here (still about $ 5! — -save your mula and drive dowon the windward side to Uncle Bobo’s for good food).
You do get a good view of the breaking waves and the surfers.
