Soup Sandwiches & More is a small little diner located on the corner of Roberts Road and 79th street on the border of Bridgeview and Justice. When you walk in there’s a few tables set up to sit and eat. Some TVs overhead to watch while you dine, and a few signs displaying the various menu items they have. There is also a soda fountain featuring R.C., Nehi products and Green River here. I decided to stop by here and give the Chicago style hot dog a try. The hot dog was ordered as a meal so it included a drink and fries. The hot dog came on a toasted bun, this bun was thicker in terms of breading than most hot dog buns found in Chicagoland and that made sense due to the dog that was on it. The actual sausage here was a skinless and thicker than normal frank. It was cut up the middle and a big gob of relish was on top of it. There was also some tomato and onion mixed in, besides that the traditional Chicago style ingredients like sport peppers, celery salt, and a pickle were nowhere to be seen on this hot dog. There was no mustard applied to the dog either, but there was a mustard bottle(and a ketchup bottle) given with the hot dogs to apply to the dog and fries. The fries here were crinkle cut fries. They weren’t too salty and had a nice potato paste on the inside, they were also seasoned with some pepper. They tasted good and were a nice compliment to the hot dog. Overall I thought Soup Sandwiches and more was a decent place to stop. The hot dog I had while not fantastic was certainly unique and filling. It was a little slower than most places as far as getting my order. I’ll say this is an average eatery to stop at and rate it three stars.
