Stumbled across this great brewery after hiking in Julian. If you want to try some delicious beer in a casual, relaxed atmosphere, head to Nickel Beer Company. I tried six different beers, each 2 oz pour is only $ 2! So the whole flight of six beers was only $ 12! Great price for great beer. They have some bar seating inside. But outside they have numerous picnic benches and tall benches to drink and stand. Even though the brewery is on the smaller side, they have a great selection of beer. Next time I’m in the area I’ll definitely be coming back for more beer.

The Nickel Beer Company is a pleasant little brewery/dive bar in Julian. The interior, where you must order your beer is really semi-raunchy, very dive bar-esque. There is a very pleasant patio outside with a lath-covered structure providing minimal shade. We were there after 3PM, so the heat of the day was subsiding. It was still warmish, though. No true shade is available, although the views and outlooks from the patio area are quite nice. The beers were mildly interesting, but I did not care for them much, save the jalapeño beer, which was quite good. Be sure to try that one. It tickles your nose with a scent of jalapeño, but the taste is more pilsener beer. .. The finish is definitely jalapeño. An interesting beer. Incidentally, you can order six five-ounce tasters for $ 12, served cleverly in a muffin tin. Once you choose your beers from the menu and fill out the card, the bartender will draw your beers and give you back the card for reference. We didn’t try any food there, it was just too warm, and frankly, the beers were not served in cold glasses, so they warmed up pretty quickly. Not being British, I don’t like warm beer at all. Lastly, the restroom was not as filthy as some have described below, but it was not exactly antiseptic, either. Use at your own risk.

Our goal is to go to all the breweries in SD and when we were in Julian area we had to do the cider tasting and Nickel beer. Nickel beer co was on the list of SD brewery. I wouldn’t even consider this brewery a brewery, it felt like a ghetto dive bar. Inside was very bar like and they had a live performance. It was super divey and had some questionable characters… the only part that could potentially look like a brewery is the outside patio with plentiful seating and common tables… Except there was no shade so on a hot day expect to burn and melt! We got 6 tasters for $ 2 each, 5 oz pours. –Pale Ale –Red Pale Ale –Volcan IPA –Haberno IPA –Tacoma –Kup. Barley wine My favorite was the Haberno IPA, it wasn’t as strong as the Ballast Point but still had the good kick to it. The others were okay to good. It pro
