Moms pies are the best pies! It’s a must for everybody when comming to Julian to grab your favorite pie even though there exspensive but super worth it. I bought three pies and came out to $ 55. They didn’t have the caramel one when I went which was what I was looking forward to but next time for sure! The root beer floats are yummy too.

I went here with my lady and the ladies inside were very welcoming and nice. We grabbed some cherry pie and bumbleberry to take home and WOW, I have to say… this is far more authentic than the Julian pie co pies and boasts a much heartier bite and flavorful taste!

Delicious flaky apple pie! Tastes like my mom’s — which is, to me, the best! We tried some others in town and this remains our favorite.

This is a cute little pie shop you need to stop by if you are in Julian. Try the crumb apple pie with cinnamon ice cream and a cup of coffee. You might think that having cinnamon ice cream on top of a pie that already has cinnamon might be too much, but this is not the case. Enjoy!

Hands down, the BEST apple pie i’ve had in my life. People weren’t kidding when they said Julian is known for its apple pies, and this place is the epitome of that saying. I got the apple crumb pie with vanilla ice cream, and it was simply delicious. As soon as you enter the door, you see the countless number of pies being made fresh and right in front of you. The apples are fresh and everything is freshly made. The warm pie and the cold ice cream left me in a food coma in which I was trapped in pie heaven. Definitely, took some pie home in which the whole family enjoyed. Overall, this place seems so cozy, comfortable, warm, and inviting that it seems like home.

Ive been to moms many times before and I’ve gotta admit the pies are delicious, but the service is very poor. The line took about 25 – 30 minutes, while the workers behind the window seemed to be slowly moving around. I got a piece of pie with ice cream and they took the opportunity to give me a half piece and covered the other side with ice cream(I compared with the slice they gave my boyfriend) But what tops it off is the fact they gave us the wrong pie! It is labeled AC on the outside, but it’s a standard apple pie! I’m really bummed, missed out on a slice at moms and don’t even get a piece at home.

Mom’s was okay and it can get crowded so finding seating was kinda hard. Their pie is on the tart side. I was disappointed bc my pie crust was soggy :(I took some cider home. Sometimes they have some free samples as you walk in so try it.

Its been years since I had a Mom’s Pie. I’ll be honest, every time we come up from San Diego there would always be a LONG line doesn’t matter if its snowing or if its the hottest day in the summer. People come from all over the world just to come here and taste the most famous Julian Apple Pie. The competitors in the area don’t even compare to their apple crumb pie. This past trip we opted for the whole pie to bring home. I would suggest arriving early like we did. There was only a few people in line. After walking around town a few hours later we cruised by Mom’s and it was a line out the door and around the corner. It was a Saturday and after it snowed on the Lake Cuyamaca drive. So its a normal thing here. Prepare to wait in line or having a designated buyer so you can go and enjoy the stores and shopping next door. The apple crumb sets it apart from the rest with their edible and not so doughy crust. The crust has flavor all the way to the ridges. The crumbs on top are made with huge clusters and every bite you can savor the sugar and crunch to the smooth apple filling. Just add a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and you’re set. Another treat is watching the pie ladies at work. Luckily we had a clear view of the lady making pies in the front window. Behind her was racks and racks of pies ready for action. The Mom’s decal etching on the window is perfectly placed for photo opportunities. Its fun to watch the pie making process. While you’re standing on the sidewalk, you can smell the apple pie fresh air. Overall, this is a highly popular and busy spot for your apple pie fix and its worth the wait if you have patience. You already made the drive through the windy country roads whats another few minutes. Eat a pie there or bring it home, you won’t be disappointed.

My first experience with a strawberry rhubarb pie was divine thanks to Mom’s pie house. With so many pie selections it was hard to choose, pieces were $ 4.50 a slice which seemed to be about the standard for all the places we visited. I have always wondered why people don’t make just strawberry pies but instead strawberry rhubarb, intrigued I decided to try something new to me at a place that is supposed to make great pies and they definitely delivered. I am glad I choose the crumb topping as it really added nice crunchy texture to the pie itself. Secondly the filling… ooey gooey strawberry rhubarb goodness. The strawberries were very sweet and the rhubarb added the perfect tartness to the combination, ate my slice in about two minutes and probably could have gobbled a whole pie in 10… SOOOYUMMY. Will have to stop by mom’s for another slice on our way to the snow.

Lots of pies to choose from(crumbled and flat crusted). They come in small slices so you can try many of them without having to buy an entire pie. Tried at least 3 different pies(all with mixed fruit) and all were satisfying. Need to come back and try some more different pies. What the heck is bumbleberry?

The best apple pie in Julian. This place usually has the longest line for a reason, its the best! I would recommend getting the apple crumb pie. I’ve tried all other places in Julian and lets be honest, this place is the best.

Maybe I just got unlucky with my slice of pie, but I didn’t think this place matched up to its hype. I came here at around opening on a Sunday morning and the place was relatively empty. The first thing I noticed when I walked through the door was the lack of acknowledgement — no «hello» or anything. The staff literally just glanced up at us, went back to work, and then looked up again to tell us to close the door. With regard to the pies, I ended up getting a slice of apple crumble. The service was pretty quick, and my slice of pie was ready probably within 5 minutes of ordering. I was super excited to try it given all the good things I’d heard, but my first bite(and all the ones after that) was unfortunately quite disappointing. The pie didn’t taste fresh — the crust was lacking in the crumbliness present in genuinely, freshly-made pies. It definitely tasted like it was microwaved(which it was, but still, I don’t think I should be able to tell). This brings me to another point: the pie wasn’t even thoroughly heated. My slice of pie was warm in some bits and still cold in the others. I will say, however, that I did enjoy the apples in the pie — the texture and flavor were both really good. Overall, I thought that the pie here was, at best, just average and wasn’t worth the $ 6. I probably wouldn’t make a special trip to Julian JUST for pie, but even if I were in the area, I’d probably try to go to another pie place before coming back here.

What do you get when you drive 3 hours to stand in line for 20 minutes with a group of eager customers to taste the best apple pie in Southern California? You get Mom’s apple pie that’s worth every bit of the journey. The apple dumpling with a side of vanilla ice cream is a must for dine-in or take-out. The flaky pastry crust is made to perfection & the juicy apple filling is the perfect balance of sweet & tart. Don’t forget to buy a whole apple crumb pie to take home. In my case, I bought 6 whole pies to give to family & friends. Another great day in the city of Julian.

After trying out the Apple Mountain Berry Mixed Crumb at Julian Pie Company, wanted to try this place out for comparison. I still liked Julian Pie Company better. I got the Apple Boysenberry Flaky and it was alright. It was tart and held nicely the apples and boysenberries, but my taste buds didn’t get any yummy signals. It was alright. It wasn’t sweet either, but it was warmed up and so that was nice. You order at the counter and they call out your number. It was a 20mins wait for my slice. Though, I did get some nice pics while waiting. The place was a lil crowded by 1pm when I was there, and after 3pm, there was a line outside the door. I’ll upgrade my stars next time I try out their other pies. I won’t rule them out completely.

CINNNAMONICECREAM I love that that they have cinnamon ice cream. It is THEBEST. Moving onto the pies… we got the apple dutch(crumble) pie. The crumble was good, and doesn’t have as big crumb pieces as other pie joints. Tasty, sweet chewy, and a little bit crunchy. But I think the inside was better that the outside. The apples were nice and sweet, made to perfection and comes in nice thick pieces. The ice cream really made the pie though, but this place is still worth the visit if you are out pie-hopping. Looking at the displays, they have a lot of other choices besides pie if you want to be adventurous. They also have real food too if you are really hungry. Be patient! The line goes out the door, but it’s quick and they have tons of seating inside.

Yummy Apple boysenberry crumb! I’ve been to Julian Pie Company and wanted to test out another competitor. As we walked by we say a line of people, surely it must be good. It’s also located smack middle of the«strip». They had many other sweet options(candied Apple etc) as well. But the first thing that took our eyes away was the Apple boysenberry crumb… Anything is better than a regular apple pie(so plain Jane!) … put some berries in it, taste like heaven. We ordered and patiently waited for our pie. It took pretty long for our slice of pie and ice cream, didn’t know if they were baking a new pie or whatever but we saw plenty of that pie in the display. I think we waited 10 minutes for that slice(which at Julian Pie Co would come out in a minute or so). They need to improve on that. Other than the wait of the actual serving, the pie was delicious! We devour it in less than half the time it took them to serve us! A good start to a 4th of July weekend.

Apple pie versus the world, part II, Mom’s Pie House was founded in 1984 and the apple pie competition is fierce in Julian. Just like Julian Pie Company, there’s also another store for Mom’s Pie House(located at Wynola, just 4 miles away). What’s unique about Mom’s Pie House: Other than your typical apple pies, Mom’s Pie House also sells«Apple Dumpling«- basically a peeled apple wrapped with pie crust. There are three ice cream flavors to choose from(vanilla, cinnamon, or chocolate) as opposed to two flavors at Julian Pie Company. *** Apple crumble pie($ 5.50 for slice a la mode — cinnamon ice cream): Both cinnamon ice cream and outside crust texture were better than Julian Pie Company, but I think Dutch apple pie from Julian pie company tasted a bit better. *** Even though I am still not a fan of apple pies, I will always be a fan of freshly baked bakeries and tasty cinnamon ice cream. If you are at Julian, you should try at least one apple pie store here.

I came here midweek to pick up an apple pie. Unlike the weekends, where the line is out the door, there’s literally no one inside the restaurant midweek, and you get pick of wherever you want to sit. I would have liked to have tried the pie there at the store, but unfortunately we had a late breakfast and no one in my group was hungry. Young lady who helped us was courteous but not quite friendly. She seemed to tolerate us as tourists. Not very helpful in suggesting a pie, but more waited for us to make up our minds, which thankfully there was no one behind us and we took our time. We decided on a whole pie, the Apple crumble, which cost just over $ 15. Young lady did volunteer information about the frequent card, which she gave us a one punch and told us that the card never expires. This review is based only on the experience we received on taking food to go. The service was courteous but it did not make me want to come running back for my next visit. Giving us three, A ok, average stars. Perhaps my review would change the next time I visit Julian.

The mother lode of all pie’s in historic Julian, California is lucky to have this family owned business who also live in the neighborhood. Expect to find a slow moving line that forms outside. Located on Main st, this small store has a large window that allows you to see the employee’s perform all prep in baking pies. The majority of fresh fruits are grown locally and very little is outsourced. You have the option of selecting frozen and ready made pies that have a very short life span only because no preservatives are added plus they are rich and fresh in flavor, you’re lucky if your pie survives a night at home. Singles servings are available with a optional scoop of handmade vanilla ice cream, those are the hot sellers and can be shared but who really wants to do that, right. Bring your appetite and indulge yourself in sweetness we all deserve, we’re entitled to a little guilty pleasures. Expect to find your favorite pies and some obscure hard to find. Apple cherry, apple boysenberry, apple caramel, cherry, chocolate pecan, pecan, rhubarb strawberry, pumpkin to name a few. Handcrafted goods made with good intentions to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. I seriously doubt you’ll find any canned goods in the pantry, everything is made from scratch including chocolate sweets. They also offer a limited lunch menu with a soup of the day. Beverages include blended coffee drinks, tea’s, freshly made lemonade, apple cider. Street parking and limited parking lot space is available. Park your car and walk around and enjoy the neighborhood that is probably 6 blocks max. Located 4000′ above sea level in northern/eastern San Diego county. You can approach from SR76, 78, or 79 from Interstate 15 fwy. Other points of interest are Mt Palomar and San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Don’t feel like traveling out to this region, a online store is available with flat rate shipping of pies and other treats. Keeping it real :)
