Two words: The Torpedo. If you want the biggest Italian sandwich west of the Mississippi, I think it might be in the Julian Market. Head to the back counter and ask one of the nice workers for The Torpedo. Then watch as the construct a 8“x4“x5″ massive sub with salami, bologna, cappicola and mortadella. They wrap it in paper slice it in half and then wrap it again. If one person can eat this sandwich, then I take my hat off to you. I don’t know if this is a widely known place, but we grabbed the sandwich and headed over to Nickel Brewery for a very lovely lunch.

Stayed a few days in Julian and came in here rather than the other grocery store. This place is in a historic building its beautiful. And has a deli. Great products non out of code at super cheap prices. Also 3 different bags of ice sizes and cheaply priced with ample parking around the building. Simply the best in town.

The Julian Market for the area, and the main area spans about 3 blocks, is a good convenience store with fair pricing, especially if you’re an out of town tourist visiting and need some snacks or essentials. The store has hours different than that of most of the town’s casual 10am to 5pm hours, which makes it even more convenient of a destination. There’s not a whole lot of options in Julian, and luckily I feel this market doesn’t take advantage of holding residents and visitors hostage to that lack of competition and have a nice ‘lil store to service the community.

If you are in Julian and need anything from the grocery store this is your place. They have everything you need including a custom meat department with great steaks. I’ve been shopping here for 3 months and they always have what I need saving a trip down the mountain. The prices are reasonable considering you are 22 miles up in the mountains in a resort town. Lastly the staff is always helpful and friendly.

Great little market located in the heart of Julian’s Main Street. This place has you covered for last minute items or if you want to avoid going all to way back to civilization. I recently rented a lovely house/cabin for the holidays and as we were unpacking and cooking noticed we were missing some items, this place saved my butt from a for sure spanking from the Mrs. I forgot to buy cinnamon, wood bundle, body wash, eggs and a few other items and this place helped me out. The staff is always really helpful and if they don’t have something in stock they always point you in the right direction as to where to find it. Nice small town charm. They also offer a large selection of pies and other baked goods as well as some other food items. Parking can honestly suck like anything else because of us tourists. So happy it was opened on Xmas day because I needed more wood to keep the family warm!!! They don’t sell liquor! Bad boys…

The frozen pot pies here are worth the drive up to Julian! On more than one occasion, I have bought some to take back home. If you call ahead, the pie chef will even custom make a vegetable-only pie for the vegetarians in your family.

Julian Market is a funky but useful place in a serious tourist town. I often grab a sandwich here when I don’t have time to sit and dine. They offer a diversity of items, much like a general store, but I almost always head to the deli counter straight away. Yesterday, I ordered the roast beef sandwich on whole wheat. This came with the works: lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, and cheese(which I added). They have delightful and moist whole wheat bread, so this was a no-brainer! I asked for deli mustard, which they also had — no problem. I always ask for spicy mustard or deli mustard, and if a place doesn’t have it, I know my meal will be substandard. You might surprised how many places indicate that they only have«yellow» mustard. How boring! Anyway, the sandwich was very tasty. It was stacked high with fresh beef and swiss cheese, and I devoured it in just a couple of minutes. I actually ate this sandwich almost as fast as Jeff S eats his! That guy can really pack it away in a hurry. I highly recommend buying your sandwich at the Julian Market. This is the best place in the Julian area, hand’s-down. You won’t be disappointed!

This place is great to get some essentials. Eggs, apple cider and some frozen pizza wit h apple pie was our shopping list. They take CC but no AMEX.

The market is well stocked, but avoid the sandwich shop in the back. We ended up waiting for more than 30 minutes just to place an order on a fairly slow day.

Good little rural camp store. Diverse selection and the ice, eggs, and beer competed with Ralph’s pricing. Staff was kind and had good humor. Anyone expecting more from a little camp store is clearly not a regular camper

Rude service from Deli. Person in Market was nice. Person in deli was overheard as saying, «Save an apple and kill a tourist» I thought the town was making money on tourists. The sandwiches we got from there were dry and not good at all. DONOTRECCOMEND!!!
