Great unique place with amazingly friendly staff and owners! Glad we found it and stopped by. The burgers were great — and so was the Philly cheesesteak! Completely worth a stop!!!

The food is always delicious. I usually order the salad that has steak and blue cheese on top. The service is always very friendly and I love the atmosphere. The place is literally right under a cliff in a rural area just outside of Joplin. The inside is decorated with vintage license plates and old hollywood posters complete with a juke box, fuseball table, and a couple arcade games. I always try to eat here whenever I visit my hometown of Joplin. The only reason why I’m not giving this place the full five stars is that is it often hard to eat at as there have been times when my family has tried to eat there only to be told there is absolutely no available seating because of how relatively small the place is and we have often had to leave and go elsewhere to avoid an über long wait time.

I’ve never been there, but I just called to confirm a rumor of currently having no liquor license and they said they dont. Can’t have a bar that doesn’t serve alcohol.

No liquor, the food quality is lousy compared to the last time I at here in March and the place was slow but it took forever to get my burger. Won’t be back.

This place does it right. Full stop. The Undercliff is one of my favorite places in the Joplin area. The staff has always been on point, friendly, and especially good with regular customers. Beer is cheap, and the burgers, sandwiches and soups are all good. I’ve always loved the Lemon Pepper Chicken Sandwich, so I am especially glad it’s on the menu full time now. It used to be an occasional special. If you don’t go out often, or prefer the familiarity of chain restaurants, this is not for you. Everything about this place has a fun flair: the building, décor, jukebox, free foosball table and colorful staff. It’s a small place with an even smaller kitchen, and it’s not fast food. Bring people you actually like to talk to, grab a beer on the patio, enjoy your dinner and the surrounding scenery.

Wow! What a place! Food and service were both excellent, and the prices were good too. Off the beaten path, and with a regular crowd, this place is a must see. Drinks are REALLY cheap too during happy hour!

Went and had lunch there this afternoon, we had heard a lot of good things about this place so we decided to try it out. We ordered the steak which was cooked to perfection. Such a neat place, great atmosphere and the service was good as well!!!

Sorry in advance for the 5 paragraphs to follow, but people seriously need to be informed. Ok, I’m being generous and giving it two stars for two reasons. Reason one being the fact that Undercliff is named for its very literal location, directly under a cliff. See what they did there? One star for you, Undercliff! The other star goes to their bacon and cheese covered waffle fry appetizer. Fries were crispy, cheese was melted on top and topped with bacon, it also came with a side of nacho cheese that they claimed was homemade. Not so sure about that, but either way, great appetizer. But expensive for what it was. Now, my fiancé and I had heard amazing things about this place so today we decided to try it. But I think it’s all just a little overplayed. First off, the prices. 15 bucks for 1 pork chop? A chicken wrap for 10.59? Build your own burger for 7.59, reasonable right? Wrong. They start you off with just the ¼ pound burger with the traditional lettuce onion pickle blah blah. But to add cheese it’s a dollar extra. To add bacon, 1.69. To add another patty, 2.79. For one patty. Come on. I ended up getting the plain old burger basket with onion rings which were 2 dollars extra, on top of the already expensive 8 dollar price for a plain burger plus a dollar for a slice of cheese. My fiancé got the smokehouse burger(¼ lb patty with bbq sauce, bacon, and grilled onions), which was almost ten dollars, with a 2 dollar side of onion rings. The presentation was nice. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just burgers with a pile of onion rings. But upon taking the first bite, I realized immediately that these burgers were pre-made. When I say pre-made I mean they were over processed, pre shaped, made in a factory and then bought in bulk. It didn’t even taste or look like real meat. The texture was awful and the taste was bland. In the end we paid more than 30 dollars for two burgers and some cheese fries. Which, in my opinion, is Ridiculous. If I’m going out and spend 35 bucks on burgers they better be some damn good ones, with real meat, not that over processed crap they’re selling. I can go to steak n’ shake and get two double cheeseburgers(made with real meat) with bacon and cheese fries plus 2 shakes for less than 20 bucks. The place was one of a kind. Unfortunately though, due to their high prices and poor food quality, I have high doubts that we will ever come back.

The food here is kinda just ok, but the atmosphere is so neat, that it’s worth at least one trip here! On the inside, one wall is not really a wall but rather it’s the actual side of a cliff. Because of that, there is a musty smell that lingers indoors. I can get past the smell for the neat building itself, but we won’t frequent here for the food. Maybe go again just for a drink.

We went early on a Saturday night. We sat out on the patio and had a couple of beers to begin. Not a huge selection of bottled beer and everything on tap was«light» beer. They had a solo guitarist/singer playing and he did a fine job. As the crowd got larger we put our name on the list to be seated. We were seated relatively quickly in a booth. The booth was very cramped. I’m 6’2″ and 210. I could barely breath! I scooted the bench seat back after the booth behind me was vacated, but then was asked by the hostess to move it back when she seated the next guests. The bench backs are almost vertical. Not very comfortable. I ordered the south of the border burger and my date ordered the«dam» good sandwich. The burger featured«homemade» chili. Hmm? I find that hard to believe. It reminded me of typical canned chili. It wasn’t bad, just typical lower end bar food. The«dam» good sandwich was fairly large but not remarkable. Neither one of us finished our meal. The fries and onion rings were frozen but we’re decent, hot and crispy. While we were at our table, a runner came through several times with bags of various frozen products. I understand the need for taverns to make use of frozen foods. But you shouldn’t ask your customers to pay a premium price for it. The atmosphere is pretty cool. It’s a small space and was pretty packed while we were there. The service was good and we got our food in a respectable amount of time. Others have complained about service, but we had no problems. Bottom line, go for the unique location. Just remember it’s a bar that serves food and keep your expectations within reason.

Thank you for offering sweet potato fries to go with my burger! All the food I’ve tried is consistently good. It’s a destination for our lunch rides.

Used to be good, now it’s just overpriced bar food. $ 24(which $ 3 was gratuity) for my date and I to split a sandwich and have a draw beer each. And slow service. Took over 30 min and there was nobody else eating. Just a couple guys at the bar. No real need to return. The atmosphere is all they’ve got left.

I couldn’t make myself stop here because a douchebag in in a douche-truck was in the process of parking on a gravel pile. I suppose this was to justify the 12″ lift and zero real off-road outfitting on his American freedom steed. The four stars are for his unseen but probable tribal tattoos, Oakley Bladez, and backward baseball cap… and possible hub emblems on his street wheels — unless maybe he optioned for the skulls.?? He must have thought he was at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Terrible service! When we sat down there were only two other tables in the restaurant and it took us over 2 hours and twenty mins to get our food and check. We received our app quickly and then didn’t see anything else for another hour and a half. As they started to get busier we saw table after table get their food and checks before our waitress even said anything. When our food finally arrived half of our side items were missing and the food came out in shifts. The waitress claimed the mac and cheese was worth the wait but it was clearly kraft mac with cheddar melted on top(yuck!). Understaffed and undermanaged and the food was disappointing=miserable experience. Will not be going back.

This place is simply unbelievably cool. The atmosphere, the food, the staff… I had the smoked pork chops, and Mike had the steak. I read the reviews from others and I am stunned. HOW could ANYone not like the food here? I have dined in 5-star restaurants where the food was not as good as what we got here. The service was exceptional, and yeah, there’s a bit of a wait, but like the sign says, they are a «restaurant, not a rush-taurant». Good food takes time, and everything I had was perfection. Love love love this place, and it is a DEFINITE must-stop if you are in the area!!!

It use to be a great place to go years ago. Now the food is over priced but good. The problem is that the service is terrible! It took my wife and I over 40 minutes just to be seated inside to eat. Sure they were busy but it was Saturday night and they were not serving food outside where the tables and great view are, only inside. My only guess is a bad GM. After we ordered it took another 45 minutes to get two avocado burgers with fries. I wanted to walk out after the first 45 minutes, but my wife wanted to stay because she thought that would be rude. We could see the cooks moving as fast as molasses, unlike our waitress who we almost never saw. I will not be going back!

Yes, you can get better food elsewhere, but the combination of the food and the atmosphere(including the drive) make this a great place to visit on a temperate day(especially when the leaves are turning). It’s reasonably priced as well.

I don’t get the hype that surrounds this hole. I’ve been here three times and I guess I just am not a local that understands. Only locals come here dragging out of towners. I went kicking and screaming and decided the third try was the final. The food is barely diner quality and just plain sucks. Now that I no longer come to Joplin, it will not be missed.

I am a fan of the restaurant but do not get to go as often as I would like because of the out of the way location. But that is not a knock because the location adds to the restaurant. The food has always been outstanding. The south of the border Burger is amazing. The loaded waffle fries are a great appetizer and the fried zucchini is pretty good too. My only complaint is the lack of seating and wait time for a table. But overall it is a great place.

The food isn’t the greatest. I’ve had a few things on the menu and have only been able to somewhat enjoy the Lemon Pepper Chicken sandwich. It’s really cramped inside. It takes a long time to get your food because they start cooking them after they’re ordered so if you have a big group it could be up to an hour before getting your food! It’s an ok restaurant to come to once every few months but the food is definitely not worth the drive.
