Golden City

Decent standard Chinese food. I’ve been coming here since they were in their first location. Very consistent across the board.
My only complaint is the restaurant is a disaster. Ive never seen anyone sit down and eat. Definitely stick to pick up or delivery.
Its a family run place. Those kids literally grew up in this place. Every time I go in there, the kids are doing their homework.

My family and I ordered takeout from there tonight. We had egg foo young and two orders of dumplings. The egg foo young was very good and unlike the usual greasiness I’ve become accustomed to; although the gravy was subpar. But let’s get to the really good part… the dumplings. They were absolutely amazing and are made to order (we saw them in the back hand-​making them). I will definitely be returning to try other menu items. I’ve only tried a couple places in RI for dumplings… and Golden City has my vote. So far. And at last, prices are very fair as well.

I have ordered from Golden City for quite some time. I occasionally try other places but always come back to Golden City. They seem to make the best chicken lo mein and steamed dumplings around. I enjoy being able to order online to avoid the occasional communication issues. Every so often they overlook my request for no veggies in my lo mein (I am allergic to mushrooms) and I have to have them make it again. This usually happens if they are extremely busy, so I kind of understand, but they are always happy to make me a new one.

Food is decent, good enough for me to order at least once a week, service is USUALLY good. However, I just ordered delivery, and for the first time, a very young, small but loud and piercing voice picked up the phone. I am sure it was the owners daughter or something along that line as I believe I heard her yell «mama» and then some indistinguishable words halfway through my order. Anyways, it was very hard to understand her seeing as she didn’t speak english very well, screamed into the phone in a manner that only a child would, and was extremely rude when I asked her to repeat what she said because I couldn’t understand. Oh, and she also hung up before I could finish my order and give my credit card to pay for it so I had to call back. Children so young and inexperienced should not be working phone orders.

Ordered out tonight and really enjoyed my food. I ordered shrimp and broccoli and my fiancé had general Taos chicken we both loved !
They serve great size portions and the food was hot, fresh and very tasty. Was very happy with this place it was my first time and won’t be my last.

I don’t know why some of the previous comments were hating on this place… maybe they were having an off day? I’ve been a customer since their first location at the plaza up the street. I’ve eaten there regularly like 2 – 3 times a month for years, and have always got consistently great service and food.

This is my goto chinese place because of the hot and sour soup… Last time I got it, you can tell it was old, and it was breaking down. Which in general I don’t have a problem.
Classic every day chinese food, I asked if they used msg, which they claim they don’t… I’m allergic and didn’t have a reaction so…
2 things that are kind of a turn off is the place looks really run down, they have a raw piece of plywood off the shelf at Home Depot blocking their cooks– in the open kitchen concept and they have children and family members all over the restaurant, not to mention a 8 year old answering the phone.

I love to try new places, and I tend to find a silver lining within every new place I try, even if I wasn’t particularly fond of the meal. However, with this place, oy! Where do I begin?
When I usually order in for Chinese, I usually alternate between the same two restaurants, because they are consistently good and the price is right.
But last night we found a coupon for this place, and figured why not try someplace new for a change?
The coupon was for $ 5 off any purchase of $ 30 or more, but for some reason, they only honored half of it, this was only a harbinger of things to come.
My General Gao’s was over spiced, and burned my tongue. The chicken wings were over fried, and looked more like ones you would find at the local KFC. The rice was bland, and everything had an aftertaste to it that permeated of bleach.
I have never to my knowledge, ever thrown away a Chinese meal in my lifetime until last night,
This was without question the worst Chinese meal I’ve ever had. There are plenty of other Chinese restaurants in northern RI where you can get a dynamite meal for your hard-​earned buck. Stay away!

I don’t even know where to begin right now. Based on the reviews I decided to give Golden City a try. Their website says $ 2 off an $ 15 order. My order was over $ 25 so when I asked the lady if she took it off she was extremely rude and said the coupon had to be printed. but their were no coupon’s just a general incentive. So I politely said nevermind and went on my way home to eat.
I take about 2 bites of my teryaki and pull a BLACK HAIR out of my effin mouth!!! Ok I’m 100% BLONDE (I’m gonna puke just thinking about this). That right there was enough for me to be all set. I tried some of my boyfriend’s food and it was just not good. AT ALL. I am so not picky and I’m a die hard chinese food lover but this had to have been some of the *worst* chinese food I have ever had.
The place itself was sketchy and run down inside with rude workers and unsanitary food. I would never go back here nor would I recommend eating here if I were you.

what a pleasant surprise this place was. food hot and tasty. good prices. fast delivery. everything tasted so fresh! I’m glad they gave us a menu because i will definitely be going to be ordering from here again. i recommend the generals chicken, crab Rangoon, and even the spring rolls!(i didn’t even like spring rolls before!)

One of our two favourite places to order from at work, Golden City has long been a frequently visited takeout by Charlie & I. Prior to moving to Woonsocket, since they’re open pretty late, we’d order ahead of time and pick everything up on the way home (which, generally, is between 10:30 — 11:30pm).
Their fried dumplings are delicious and their chicken fingers are H U G E. Crispy, juicy and pipin’ hot, I have yet to be disappointed. Believe it or not, the steamed bean sprouts & chicken from their diet menu is amazingly tasty and actually one of my fav dishes to order for lunch. …and speaking of lunch, their combos are mad cheap, especially if ordering before 3pm. Think, the same size as their dinners except with soup for a couple bucks cheaper.
Also, I’ve noticed that they’re pretty relaxed regarding substitutions & special requests, despite us picky employees ordering like, 10 dishes at once. Kudos to them! I do recommend giving them a try.

Absolutely my favorite place in RI for Chinese food. They have «Fall River» style chow mein. I grew up in that area, and have lived in RI for 8 years and never had it anywhere else but Golden City. Tastes just like «home» lol.
I laughed at the «10 minute» comment. Literally EVERY time!

Love this place. Food is always hot and fresh and they’re super accommodating to orders. The delivery is ridiculously fast as well.

Love eating here, very well priced, I have eaten at MANY good chinese place, s and this is a great deal for a good meal. Their Wonton soup is awesome, they make EXCELLENT fried rice and dumplings, and if you need a quick lunch, their lunch menu is quick and afforadable. once you go twice the staff will always remember you, wonderful nice people and tasty food. Do not know what the former ‘worker’ was thinking, considering this restaurant was ranked one of the top 100 in the US in 2009, partly for its CLEANLINESS! Food is never bad, and always tasty. Perfect for take out at any time, definitely worth it!

Picked up a D17 yesterday. General Tao’s chicken, boneless spare ribs, and fried chicken. Always good.
