Just moved to area and love this café! Atmosphere is amazing and the biscuits with blueberry jam is addictive. We are enjoying trying different things each time. Very flavorful and fresh tasting. The staff are wonderful and very friendly. We take all our friends when they come to town and they rave about the experience also. Fun place!

Jan.24th2016. I had never been to Tupelo Honey Café and my friends suggest to try. Very happy that I followed their lead. My instincts were correct. The food is awesome! Great and plentiful menu items. The Server: Haley gave helpful suggestions and hints. The atmosphere was just right. No wait for a Sunday lunch. The southern cabin feel was right on target. The staff were all very friendly both greeting and exiting the restaurant. Haley, in particular was outstanding. We were at Tupelo for a long time catching up and Haley repeatedly took care of us with a smile. Our party talked about how great she was. We will be returning to Tupelo as I have a new favorite eatery. Thanks!!!

Glad to have them here in Johnson City, but other than being expensive for good(not great food) they aren’t recommendable. There are better. Having said that, their service is excellent.

There has been allot written about Tupelo Honey with widely varying opinions and experiences. I for one am really glad they made a very large investment in Johnson City — I have been to the original location in Asheville and have been a fan ever since! The renovation here I give extremely high marks. It is gorgeous and functional! The outdoor seating, weather permitting is really really nice. I love the open structure they have used with all the wood and keeping a feeling of the original building. Food wise the biscuits that greet you when you arrive for a meal are to die for!!! Fresh, hot and with a side of berry preserves — they are addicting and oh so good — you will remember the taste long after you leave and will be beckoned back! Tupelo serves southern cuisine with a homemade taste and locally sourced raw ingredients and it tastes it. Everything I have had has a made from scratch taste but an upper crust presentation. The prices reflect that and I do wish they would have so lower cost items as this is not Asheville. I consider this restaurant and upscale dinning experience of which there are now a few in downtown JC. You can’t go wrong with one of my favorite signature dishes for brunch — Sweet potato pancakes with chicken and biscuits — don’t bring your calories counter for this meal! I am looking forward to trying the daily happy hour and report back. We are glad you are here and serving up some amazing food!

What a find! We were headed down to Asheville when hunger struck everyone in the car, and upon checking Unilocal this sounded like a fun, southern option. Little did we know that we would find such a great lunch! Very cute location with a pretty outdoor area as well. Our server was super friendly and we loved the complimentary biscuits and jam! They even made me gluten free toast which was an added bonus as a lot of places don’t do that. Great drinks, and from their appetizers to our dessert we were content and happy. We even went on to sought out one on a later trip to Greenville, SC! Can’t wait to head back down south and enjoy some more Tupelo Honey Café!

Cool building interior and mini train set of old time Johnson City but food here is bland. Don’t get near the BBQ at all. It tasted like thawed out meat from the Walmart freezer section.

Seriously delicious! Their spiked lavender lemonade is the perfect treat on a hot day. There biscuits and jam is ridiculous! The quality of the food is amazing. So excited that one of these has opened up close to my house!

We came to Johnson city for the holidays. This restaurant was recommended by our family who lives nearby. This is a great place for gathering. The sunset view was beautiful. The restaurant staff were very nice, foods very goods, every one, adults and kids all enjoyed.

Such a great find. We ate outdoors on the train platform and the menu had so many delicious choices.

I’m a big Tupelo honey fan, and the Johnson city one is very good. The staff is friendly and the food is always good. My standard is the French toast and bacon, but I can’t remember being disappointed by any menu items. Last time I ordered the basil green beans and the were very good, fresh and slightly sweet from the basil. One sad thing is they removed the toad in a hole from the menu – but that was a while ago… I’ve learned to accept it and move on.

Pimento cheese and bbq egg rolls to start. Curry Chicken Thighs with kale salad and sweet potatoes=best meal you’ll have in a while! Oh yeah and Rogue Dead Man Ale to drink… just do it and thank me later. I’ve eaten at two of their other locations and this one is the best so far. Cool cabin feel to the inside with the wood and decorating. The staff was on point and we never had to flag anyone down. The manager was even helping us with things which was cool. I checked all the plates at the table and they were all perfectly done. The mac n cheese comes out like three inches tall! The manager told us that the chef’s meatloaf was the deal… I tried it off a friends plate and found it to be good but he cooks better dishes imo. The beers come and go so be ready to be turned down when you order one. It’s ok because they have tons of selections. If you’re in town go to this place and you’ll be happy!

There are not to many places I give 5 stars but this place well deserves it!!! From the start the décor and atmosphere of this places sets off your dining experience. If the weather is good make sure to sit outside on the old train depot landing it provides a great dining experience. Have a few pre diner drinks by the outdoor fire place or play a few rounds of corn hole this is how we started our Tupelo honey experience. As for the food and dining experience both were first class. Our table server was Aryn who not only was very friendly and courteous she was spot on with her recommendations on everything. She made us feel at home and ultimately she added that good old southern hospitality feel to our meal making it a 5 star experience. From the fried avocado to the fried green tomatoes these apps rocked!!! As for the beet salad and Shoo burger they were pure bliss… I was so happy that we choose Tupelo honey and glad to really get a taste of the true flavors of the Blue Ridge mountains!!!

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways… nutty fried chicken… Mac and cheese… fried okra… Carolina white sauce… Honeysuckle & Lavender Flip cocktail! All were delish and basically the best I have had the fortune to taste. Yum! The place is adorable as well-inside and outside seating and the waitress was on top of it! Love!

We stay in a nearby town and wanted to try this new location out as we were excited to have them nearby. We have been to the Asheville location.(I’ve even purchased one of their cookbooks) We came for an early Sunday dinner and were immediately impressed with the location/train depot. We loved the outdoor fireplace and outdoor seating but it was a bit too warm to sit outside. The inside was very nicely remodeled while keeping its roots. We were seated right away(though placed at a tiny table inches away from another table/party in the bar area. So we asked if we could be sat in the dining area, which had many many tables available) We were served by a very nice & attentive waiter. I expressed interest but unfamiliarity with a beer they had on tap(RJ Rockers Son of a Peach). He offered me a taster of it, which was awesome.(We did notice we were charged for it, 25 cents I think, which my boyfriend had never seen a place do that before). Turns out, I loved the beer and have since bought some at the local store. They actually had many wonderful(local) beers on tap. My boyfriend had the meatloaf with two sides. He loves brussel sprouts but wasn’t in love with the brussel sprout salad. He did really enjoy the meatloaf though. Me, being vegetarian, had either salad, sides or one dish option. The one dish — «SC stone-ground goat cheese grits topped with salsa verde black-eyed peas, sautéed greens, fried okra and salsa. Sorry no substitution» sounded a lot like the same item I’ve ordered for brunch, minus a fried egg, and I didn’t love it. So I ordered the 3 sides & they were very good, but had no protein. Over all, we very much enjoyed our meal. The downside. 1) As mentioned– better vegetarian protein/entrée options. 2) It was pricey. The meatloaf was small and I believe it was $ 18. My 3 sides were $ 12 I believe. That said, I sure do like the complimentary biscuit, homemade blueberry preserves and honey they bring out. Our waiter even offered us ‘one for the road’.

Excellent little place. Great great food. Great very friendly service. Got the free glass when signing up and waitress was more than happy to help us set it up for the glass. Great décor and they have a crazy bloody mary which we were sad we couldnt try as no alcohol before noon in tn. Recommended!

I was so happy to find out that they opened a Tupelo Honey in Johnson City after having such good food at the stops in Chattanooga and Asheville. I stopped by while in town for business on a Tuesday night. At Tupelo Honey, Tuesday Night is apparently Martini night. You’d be well served to try one of their special martinis for $ 3. I had the gin-lemon-rosemary martini which was fresh and balanced and, lest we forget, $ 3. I was looking for a lighter option but still wanted Tupelo Honey for dinner. What to do? Since this place has so many diet-crushing options, I made a decision on what I was going to get before I walked in the door. I tried the Veggie Melt with Brown Butter Brussel Sprouts. It was SOGOOD! Even if I wanted to go full flavor, meaty, and heavy with my meal, I might still get this the next time. The Veggie Melt(which includes fried green tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, roasted red pepper, and Havarti cheese) has this lemon aioli that made everything else I ate taste brighter and more flavorful. Pros: Sweet location, amazing food, and great specials Cons: The crowd can get a little too college-specific in the bar area. I feel like I’m getting old but I got tired of the younglings cursing loudly to one another. Overall: Like any of the other Tupelo Honey locations, your tummy will both hate you and thank you for coming here. The«thank you“‘s almost always win out for me!

Think cracker barrel with a nice ambiance. I actually like cracker barrel sometimes, so if I’m in the mood for okra I’d definitely come back. Because the okra here is delicious. And I’d much rather get my southern food on in a classy atmosphere. I was warned that there would be a wait, and we did wait an hour on a Saturday night. But they have comfortable chairs outside to wait at and I enjoyed relax a with a drink before. They have a nice long drink menu. Sandwiches are a good price at under $ 10. The service was friendly and attentive. I debated between 3 and 4 stars as I thought the rest of the food was acceptable. Just like cracker barrel it’s a decent plate of food. But there was also nothing special about it. The Brussel sprouts were steamed and bland. And for entrees at $ 15 – 20 I expect a bit more than that.
