I love this place. Always get a ton of food! Lunch time is the best deal but with dinner you get their bread and herb butter that is awesome. I get the chicken schnitzel almost every time but everything my friends or family have gotten has been delicious(my fork wanders.). I especially loved the rouladen and their pan fried potatoes with beer cheese.

I was really looking forward to the food here. Authentic German dishes are great. It looked promising so I sat at the bar and quickly ordered after getting a Warsteiner to kill the time. Even though I ordered the large size I was able to easily finish the luke cool beer that shared a slight detergent taste from the glass before there was any sight of my food. 30 minutes after ordering, with no scent of my meal coming soon, I cashed out and walked away with an experience I could easily eclipse by getting a 40 at the local drive up liquor store.

Great food. Everything I have eaten here has been great. The schnitzel is great. The red cabbage is good as well as the sauerkraut. A must try is the fried potatoes and onions with bacon. Very good place especially if you like German food. German beer on tap if you like that.

We should all feel truly blessed that Freiberg’s was one of the first to make a sizable investment in downtown. The beautiful 2 story renovation is a real jewel in downtown and it is married with real quality german food which any city would be happy to have as a food choice. I used to work right above Freiburg’s at Spark Plaza and was a frequent lunch diner. They have a fabulous deal for lunch at around $ 5 for a lunch portion. My favorite is the chicken schnitzel, red cabbage, pan fried potatoes. The potatoes come with bacon and onion if so ordered and are to die for. You can also get fresh vegetables. Many have commented on the paprika sauce that is an option with many of the entrees. One day when it was slower the owner brought out the sauce and cooked a german burger for me to try it out. I found it outstanding. it is a family recipe and if you like a more spicey sauce get it on the side and give it a try. All the entrees I have tried from the schnitzels(both chicken and pork) to the german burger to the Sauer Braten have been high quality and well prepared. We are really lucky that Andreas and Michele Herholz invested in downtown with such a quality restaurant.

Very good food and ridiculously inexpensive lunch special will make me a regular here. I order schnitzel which a hot, crispy and juicy. The sauerkraut was less crispy then I like, but had good flavor to balance out the sausage. The service was prompt and cordial. I’m looking forward to trying more on the menu.

Love German food. Has to be authentic. This place has it right on the button. We all got different items and sides. Passed them around and everyone raves about the flavors.

My boyfriend and I come here for their lunch special since the meals I tend to like are expensive but come down dramatically for the special. My boyfriend always eats a Frikadella, he loves the pretzel bun, meat, and the Muenster cheese. I tried the Boulette at our most recent visit which I enjoyed. I’ve tried the Rouladen and Chicken Schnitzel in the past and have enjoyed the dishes. However, the service doesn’t match the food provided. Each time we have visited the establishment the service has been awkward and we only get visited to get our order and our food. We will probably continue to eat Freiberg’s but will probably get take out instead.

Love this place. It sits on a corner, so we sat by the window & watched the traffic, & people walking, go by. There are also tables upstairs & a bar at the back. Started out with 2 big imported beers & they were reasonably priced! We did not arrive to eat lunch until 2:30 that day, & we did choose the lunch portion(a larger dinner portion is available), which was very filling & was less money. Hubby ordered the Chicken Schnitzel & Potatoes; I ordered the Pork Schnitzel, Mushroom Gravy, Potatoes & Red Cabbage. WOW — very pleased with everything. The meat was nicely cooked, the potatoes were cut large & so were the onions & tasted great. My hubby loved the red cabbage, while I was only OK with it. It just had too much anise for my taste. That being said, we vote this place an A+! Our server was very pleasant & efficient. We are considering moving to the area, & our server was willing to answer some questions we had about the town & area in general. We would eat here again & again if we lived here, & who knows, we may one day!

Food not as good as prior visits. Cabbage way too sweet; schnitzel dry. Didn’t have change so they simply increased the bill with no comment. When I asked about the missing change they said they didn’t have any, and when I questioned whether that should lead to an increased bill they made a show of bringing it all in pennies. I won’t be back.

Awesome lunch! I always order the pork schnitzel with paprika sauce, fried potatoes with bacon and onions, and a side salad… and it’s under $ 6.

Living in Florida, you just can’t find many good German places for a beer and schnitzel. While in Bristol for a race, I ventured down to Johnson City to find something NOT a boring chain and found this joint. A great corner bar with an excellent German menu.(The German Potato Salad is actually German Potato Salad. Hell yeah.) I’ll be back.

This establishment is my wife and I’s favorite place to eat in Johnson City. However, you HAVE to go for lunch during the week to get the best value. Five dollars fills me up, and my wife is able to bring some home. The pan-fried potatoes with onions and bacon are the bomb. I always get the chicken schnitzel with a side of paprika sauce, and my wife gets the roast beef with mashed potatoes. We go here at least once a week, I recommend this place to everyone. Don’t be scared by the bad reviews! Personally I’ve never had a bad experience here.

Stopped in while passing through on business. The atmosphere was nice and the food was good. Good selection of German draft beer and all the normal German food on the menu that you would expect. I had the pork schnitzel, German potato salad and red cabbage with a side of smoked brat. Portions were huge and food was on point, will defiantly visit agin when in the area.

Went here for dinner and we were late. We got there around 9:30 and the server was so nice and accepted our orders with pleasure. I had the owners special which was just like hamburger steak with onions and mushrooms and gravy and mashed potatoes. It was delicious! My boyfriend has the schnitzel with red cabbage and fried potatoes. We had mini dogs and pretzel as an appetizer. We were thrilled. It wasn’t expensive and it was a smaller place. Overall excellent!

I wish I could give this place 100 stars. Outstanding German cuisine. Great prices and the portions are incredible. Beer is German, cold, fresh and plentiful. I reccomend the liter stein for men. Potato salad is creamy, fresh and homemade. Hands down the top meal I have eaten while visiting Johnson City. Instant favorite!!!

If I lived in Johnson City, I would totally frequent Freiberg’s. We serendipitously parked across the street from it, and I was lured in by the«$ 4.99 lunch special» on the door. After taking a brief walk around the downtown area, we decided that this was still the most appetizing option, and we definitely were not disappointed. I’ve only had German food once(in Pittsburgh), and I don’t know why I haven’t had more of it. I don’t know how authentic it is, but I’d happily return. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart; breaded, fried foods galore, large slabs of meat, rich, heavy sauce — you need to not care how many calories you’re consuming. Dan B. and I split an appetizer(fried cauliflower) and a pork schnitzel with beer cheese sauce, and the complimentary soft bread was served with a creamy dill butter. It was an absurd amount of food; the waitress had even forewarned us, but we forged onwards anyway. We barely made a dent in the schnitzel, and we still had half of the appetizer left. I don’t know what the lunch specials are, but beware of the giant portions! I’m glad that I didn’t read the reviews beforehand(very unlike me) because we had great service and we enjoyed our meal. Neither of us have had much experience with German food, but we thought that the breaded cauliflower was fried well(not oily at all) and the schnitzel, drenched in sauce and cheese, was great. Not astounding, but definitely satisfying and good comfort food.
