Tara Burroughs Salon

Here is what happened to me at the so called «prestigious» Tara Burroughs salon.
⁴⁄₈ — I went to have my hair colored. I explained to Robert that I wanted a single color and an overall much lighter effect than my natural hair. He did not offer any advice or counsel me regarding the color. At the end of the service, my hair was super dark. He did not apologize. The owner, Tara, recognized this for what it was, a botched job, and comped it. She asked for a chance to correct the mistake and said she would do it herself. She said she would do highlights. She promised it would look really nice, and encouraged me to return as opposed to going to someone else. I didn’t have time to spend another 2.5 hours in the salon that day, so I returned a week later. Big mistake.
⁴⁄₁₅ — After 2.5 hours in the salon, my hair was orange. Tara said (direct quote), «In few washes, your hair color will be even ‘warmer’, so you really should come back and have us work on it again.» She confirmed that «warmer» means more red/​orange. Incredible. Then she proceeded to charge me $ 170, even though the most expense highlights service on her website is $ 150 (for full highlights). I asked for an explanation, and she said she charged me for a toner that she had to use to make my hair look a little more normal (otherwise it’d have looked even more orange). I said I did not think I should pay for her mistakes, and she told me that I didn’t know how color worked. I am the customer, why should I understand how color worked?! I just know that my hair is bright orange/​red now, and that she expected to make even more money of my stupidity that drove me to go to her salon in the first place.
These are the facts — draw your own conclusions.

Tara has saved the health of my hair!!! It’s is healthier and longer now than it’s ever been. I have blonde and very fine hair. It was ruined when some one put a razor and layered my hair all over. It has taken years to grow back out. I never wanted it cut again. Tara proved to me that by cutting my hair more frequently and going with less bleach and her products that are less damaging, I would have beautiful longer hair !!! She is spot on!!! She also teaches for Paul Mitchel so she knows what’s she’s talking about!!!
I love her creativity and the simplicity and elegance of her salon!!!

Update: Also, Mrs. Burroughs, I could file a complaint against you for throwing out baseless allegations towards me as a customer. Implying in your response that I somehow came to your salon with an intention to «get cheap service» or «take advantage of» your salon or that «businesses need to beware». How disgusting! As a respectful business owner, all you had to say was «sorry if you misunderstood the information that was given to you, but this is what the charges are.» When I am standing at the checkout and genuinely surprised at the price you are telling me, it is down right despicable that the first thing you rudely say is «I was there when she spoke to you on the phone» or «that’s not a $ 20 blowout» looking at my hair. I would suggest getting some training in ethics before trying to run a business. Customers aren’t out to get you. And it’s unlawful to make allegations that you have misconstrued in your head. What a shame!
Update: great response to my review mrs. Burroughs. Further proves your professionalism in the field. If you were present for the initial phone conversation I had, how is me inquiring about your prices indicative of me looking for cheap service? I have gladly paid in the range of $ 20-​$ 35 for a blowout before. It was never the pricing. Obviously, my reaction at the time of checking out was based on what I was expecting based on what I was informed while booking my appointment. You being adamant about the «facts» does not change them. Nevertheless, if you had acknowledged your team’s mistake and been Courteous and professional, I would have still left with a positive feeling about your salon overall. But your attitude is bitter and disgusting and completely undid any hard work put in by your stylist. This reflects on you, not me.
Also, I clearly noted that despite my stylists’ good service, The only reason i would never return would be because of your rude unprofessional behavior. Good luck running more people away!
Rude. Unprofessional. Disrespectful owner. Charged me $ 40 after initially quoting $ 25. It’s not about what you charge, but the way you treat your customers! Absolutely negated any experience I had from my stylist. To elaborate, I had specifically called the salon to ask their rates for a hair wash and blowout. I was told that the charges vary based on stylist. For a beginner stylist, the lady (Samantha) told me that the charges are $ 25. I specifically told her the length of my hair and thickness. She told me that the price was a fixed rate depending solely on the stylist I choose. I told her to book me with a beginner stylist (Robert). After my service was finished, I encounter the owner Tara (I believe) at the front desk and she says the charges are $ 40 ($ 32 after a first time discount). I told her about the specific conversation I had when booking the appointment. She was extremely rude and said «that’s not a $ 20 blowout» after looking at my hair. She proceeded to dismiss anything I was saying regarding the phone conversation I had about the rates. Again, it doesn’t matter what you charge, but at least don’t misinform the customers and treat them rudely for a mistake on your team’s end. And not even acknowledge this. Despite my good experience with my stylist, I am never returning. Let alone recommending this place to anyone else.

She gave me a fantastic haircut so I went back for hi-​lights. Very happy! She is professional and friendly!

I like the approach and explanation on what they she is going to do before even she picks up the scissors. Asked me all the questions regarding what I like and don’t like and how I get the cuts in the past. Great service. Samantha was very friendly and great to work with. Great job Samantha!

My first experience with Tara Burroughs Salon was in October 2014. We had just moved to the area and I was looking for a reasonably priced stylist to start working with regularly. Since we’ve moved a lot, I knew it would probably take a while to find someone I liked. But I hit the jackpot with Sam at TBS! Sam listens to me about what I want and what hasn’t worked in the past. She suggests options, but doesn’t pressure me into additional products or services. She gives a fabulous cut at a reasonable price and she’s fun and personable! Awesome!

I went to this salon for almost two years and found it disappointing that they couldn’t keep stylists. Although the salon is very clean and the staff is friendly something must be wrong for this place to have such a high turnover rate. During my time going to this salon I saw at least five stylists. My hair cut and color was always done well but never the same.

Tried Tara Burroughs Salon for the first time. I just moved to the area from NYC and picked this salon based on Unilocal feedback. I wasn’t disappointed. Lauren did my highlights and she did a great job.

My wife just came here to do the thermafuse treatment. She had the keratin treatment done a few times in different places and it worked so well from our experiences at different salons that we decided to do it again. The stylist and the owner said that the thermafuse treatment works the same as the keratin. In the middle of her treatment, the stylist informs the salon owner and my wife that she basically ran out of materials to apply to her hair. The salon owner, Tara, was so rude to my wife and basically blamed her that she has too much hair and they had to use a completely different product. As if we are suppose to call a salon and say you need to use an x amount of product. I have never been to a place where the owner was so unprofessional as well as cheap to the clientele. We spent 375 dollars on a product that did not even last a week! There is times I wish that Unilocal offered a 0 star experience and this is one of them. This place does not care for their customers.

She did have a very long conversation with you and your stylist explaining to you both what kind of hair she has, the length and texture. She specifically told your stylist that all her previous keratin treatments that she has done took at least three hours but your stylist said it won’t take her more than two hours. You should have been UPFRONT with us when we walked in there and saw her hair that you don’t have enough product to do the treatment and reschedule the appointment but you choose to skim on applying the product and run out of it in the middle of the session. So you basically preferred to keep the appointment to get your $ 385 ($ 465 including tips) and not ensure customer satisfaction. No reputable and professional salon runs out of products in the middle of the hair session and then blame the customer for having too much hair. NEVER Happened before!!! Were you blind-​folded before you started the treatment or are you just inexperienced and can’t estimate how much product you need? She never asked for a relaxer or fully straightening her hair. She showed you pictures of her hair after her previous keratin treatments and you said the thermafuse works the same way. The thermafuse actually did relax the curls a bit but doesn’t really work as well as keratin in removing frizz or giving the hair that extra shine. Bottom line, I wouldn’t recommend this salon if you are looking for professional hair treatments or cuts and the owner’s rudeness makes their customer service less than tolerable for someone who is willing to spend upper of $ 400s.

I have had Lucy cut my hair several times and she does a fabulous job! Today I had a cut, partial highlights and toner. I am very particular about my color and had a vision in my mind of what I wanted (I am a redhead and I wanted my highlights to be very coppery). I was not disappointed! My hair looks so awesome! It looks better than I had ever imagined it would look. Lucy knew exactly what type of lightener and toner to use to achieve the look I told her I wanted. And to top it off… once again my cut is fabulous. If you want fantastic color AND a great cut, you can’t go wrong with Lucy. Her cuts are very reasonable (30 $) and she is never rushed. Also — this salon is wonderful. Love the calm atmosphere and friendly vibe. I would highly recommend Lucy for any salon service!!! Love her work!

Lydia was my hair technician. She listened, gave me what I wanted and did a great job. Love the colour and highlights. Confident in Lydia’s skill and experience. Have been to other places where the color or highlights came out either too red, too brassy, or the chemicals burned my scalp, scary. No fear of that sort of thing happening here. Lydia is absolutely fabulous.
Only thing is it’s a tad bit expensive. Like that you can book your appt online. The front staff was alright, not necessarily that friendly though, but I really liked the hair technician.

I have fine blond hair that it seems no one can cut or highlight well. For years I have searched and end up disappointed. I took a chance with Lydia about a year ago. It first started with getting my hair back on track cut wise. After being quite satisfied with her expertise I had faith to have her go for a highlight. A year later I’ve been nothing but satisfied. She understands hair of all proportions, to include my husbands, which is thick and black. Highly recommend ten fold!

Got my hair done for first time here. Lydia was great! Gave her a little direction and she made it beautiful. Love my bright red and lots of layers! Will be going back.

Lydia did a great job cutting my hair. She knew exactly what was good for my hair and what I should avoid. Highly recommend.

My wife is currently looking for a new salon. This salon came with great reviews and the pictures online are clean and sophisticated. She walked in off the street to check it out, and made an appointment for later that day with Tara (the owner). When she went back she was greeted by a smiling young lady who made her feel very welcome. As she waited for Tara, she noticed that the salon was very quiet and the stylists weren’t smiling very much.
Tara got started and after my wife explained what she wanted she did a very good job. My wife did ask her to cut the back short and make sure her hair was cut around her ears, but Tara decided that it looked ‘softer’ to keep it longer. Needless to say, a month later, my wife felt like it needed cutting again, and although with a short cut that is common, my wife doesn’t have the money to spend $ 80 on a haircut every month, so would have liked it shorter to help it last longer. Having said that, the haircut was very nicely done and did look great.
Another disappointment was the hair left on my wife’s collar after the cut. You would think that for $ 80, she wouldn’t have to come home and have a shower to get rid of the little, itchy pieces of hair.
All in all, my wife is still looking for a salon that is affordable, gives great customer service and makes sure there is no need for a shower after a haircut. Is that too much to ask?

Lydia took one look at my hair and knew that it wasn’t naturally straight. She knows her stuff and listened to exactly what I needed to continue to grow my hair out but still have some style in the meantime. My haircut is perfect and I’ll definitely be going back.
The salon is small but I like that I didn’t have a bunch of ladies around me.

Last Saturday I went for highlights and a cut at Tara Burroughs. Whitney is no longer there, but I went in to see Lydia. She was wonderful! Her interesting approach to cutting curls made perfect sense and the results are great! I love my fresh bouncy cut! I also asked for a full highlights to brighten up for the summer, Lydia mixed up two lovely blond shades to give my hair dimension and sparkle. I really appreciated that she took her time and was very enthusiastic about her work, and she even blew my tediously unruly curls into beautifully sleek and straight! I went out that evening just to show it off, and almost a week later, I still love it!

I got my hair cut by Samantha and she did an amazing job. I worry about going to American hair salons cause sometimes you run into the issue of them not knowing how to cut Asian hair, but not here. She did great, gave me what I asked for (no need for trial and error like other places I’ve been), and was very accommodating. Also, she was really easy to talk to.

I have since referred several friends, family and random people who would compliment my hair style to Tara Burroughs. She’s no longer with them but due to the good reviews, location and reasonable price point, I made an appointment with Whitney today. LOVE IT MORE!!!
I have long, fine, straight hair and Whitney successfully shaped it so my hair looks full of body without a lot of products. She listened to what I wanted and went straight to work. She kept the communication open and involved my thoughts in the process rather than guessing it.
Thank you Tara Burroughs for employing great and skilled stylists! I’ll be back for sure!
